CLASS LEADING PERFORMANCE & QUALITY

Whether referring to engine or chassis performance, or the latest available technology, the name “Ninja” implies the very best that Kawasaki has to offer. In the case of theall-new Ninja 300, it means a larger-displacement 296 cm³ engine with the power andtorque to eclipse everything in its class, racetrack level chassis stability, and race-derivedclutch technology that offers a supersport-style back-torque limiter and increased ridefeel. In addition, reduced vibration and new heat management technology result inhigh-quality ride feel and comfort level one would expect from a much larger machine.

UNCONTESTED PERFORMANCE: ENGINEDesigned for rider-friendly response, theNinja 300’s fuel-injected Parallel Twinengine delivers smooth, responsive torqueat low and medium rpm and hard-hittingacceleration at high rpm. Now displacing296 cm3, the engine offers significantlystronger torque and power at all rpm, putting the Ninja 300 in a class of its own.The new engine is fitted with a sleeveless, plated, die-cast aluminium cylinder. Newcylinder head, lighter pistons, newcrankcases and oil pan (offering increasedengine cooling) are just some of the newengine parts. Complementing the enhancedengine performance, racing-derived clutchtechnology offers a lighter clutch lever pulland a back-torque limiting function, whileheat management technology like the newradiator fan cover directs heat away fromthe rider, significantly improving ridercomfort.

Fuel-injected 296 cm³ Parallel Twin EngineCompared with a single-cylinder engine, Kawasaki’s liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8-valveParallel Twin delivers smoother, more responsive power at low and medium rpmand harder hitting power at high rpm.

*

KEY FEATURES

2013MY Ninja 300 MODEL INFORMATION PAGE 6

Thanks to a longer stroke, the Ninja 300’s new engine now displaces 296 cm³. Boreand stroke change from 62.0 x 41.2 mm to 62.0 x 49.0 mm. Correspondingly, powerand torque eclipse those of the Ninja 250R, acceleration is even stronger and topspeed is higher.

*

With power that exceeds its class, complemented by a balancer and partial rubbermounting to help dampen engine vibrations, the Ninja 300 offers a smooth ride feelas well as comfortable cruising.

*

Wider intake ports ensure the larger-displacement engine receives the air itrequires.

*

Intake valves have a larger diameter (22.5 mm >> 23.5 mm) to facilitate greaterairflow.

*

Lightweight pistons with flatter piston crowns improve combustion efficiency. Thenew compression ratio, optimised for the new displacement, decreases from 11.6:1to 10.6:1. (Lower compression ratio allows lower piston operating temperature forincreased reliability.)

*

New pistons, 7.5 mm shorter in total, are also lighter: 121.6 g >> 117 g. The lighterreciprocating weight helps achieve a high maximum rpm (13,000 rpm, compared to13,250 rpm on the Ninja 250R) despite the increased stroke. Increased high-rpmpower is the result. Shorter (by 5 mm), lighter (4 g less) piston pins contribute to thereduced reciprocating mass.

*

Pistons feature a new hard alumite coating (on the piston crown and extending pastthe top land and top ring groove) for increased durability.

*

Page 7: Kawasaki Ninja 300

KEY FEATURES

2013MY Ninja 300 MODEL INFORMATION PAGE 7

Piston underside features a groovenear the piston edge. The groovedirects cooling oil to the rest of thepiston underside.

*

Sleeveless, aluminium die-castcylinder features plated bores, justlike on our Ninja ZX-10R and 6Rsupersport machines. The newcylinder features an open-deckdesign, offering excellent heatdissipation, and weighs 600 g lessthan the previous sleeved cylinder.

*

Shorter connecting rods (98.5 mm >> 95.7 mm) help reduce reciprocating weightwhile helping to maintain the same engine height as the Ninja 250R.

*

Revised crank web design and a thicker (+1.8 mm) counterweight on the balancershaft complement the engine’s increased stroke.

*

Coolant entranceway to the cylinder now has a rectangular shape (previouslyround), contributing to improved cooling efficiency.

*

Water impeller shape revised to increase the flow of coolant for improved coolingefficiency.

*

Main bearing journal material changed for increased durability.*

New crankcases feature a larger capacity oil pan. The increased oil volume (1.7 L>> 2.4 L) offers increased engine cooling to suit the increased engine performance.Fins on the underside of the oil pan further contribute to improved cooling efficiency.

*

The change to a big-bike-style cartridge-type oil filter greatly simplifies oil and filterchange maintenance chores.

*

Fine-Atomising Injectors & Dual Throttle Valves

Page 8: Kawasaki Ninja 300

KEY FEATURES

2013MY Ninja 300 MODEL INFORMATION PAGE 8

All Ninja 300 models are fuel-injected.This ensures stable fuel deliveryregardless of temperature or airpressure, as well as excellent startingcharacteristics.

*

Similar to the Ninja ZX-10R and NinjaZX-6R, dual throttle valves giveprecise control of intake air, resultingin linear throttle response across therpm range. Dual throttle valves alsocontribute to combustion efficiency, and hence engine performance aswell as favourable fuel consumption.

*

Larger main throttle valves are (28 mm >> 32 mm) and sub-throttle valves (35.5 mm>> 40.2 mm) help flow a greater volume of air, contributing to the increased engineperformance.

*

Fine-atomising injectors with a droplet size of only 60 μm contribute to combustionefficiency. New injector bodies are more compact.

*

New lightweight Denso stick-type ignition coils help minimise electrical interference.*

Efficient Exhaust System2-into-1 exhaust system, made ofcorrosion-resistant stainless steel, contributes to low and mid-rangeperformance and helps achieve theNinja 300’s smooth, step-free powercurve.

*

Longer, larger-diameter (25.4 mm >> 28.6 mm) header pipes contribute toincreased performance across the rev range.

*

Page 9: Kawasaki Ninja 300

KEY FEATURES

2013MY Ninja 300 MODEL INFORMATION PAGE 9

To achieve the optimised exhaust length (longer), the centre pipe curves to the leftas it travels beneath the engine before returning to the right. Large-diameter centrepipe (35 mm >> 38.1 mm) matches the increased engine displacement.

*

Single honeycomb catalyser in the collector pipe (previously two: one in thecollector, one in the silencer) ensures that Euro-3 emissions regulations are met.

*

Short-style silencer with complexcross-section enables the requisitevolume while ensuring an ample leanangle. Large silencer guard protectspassengers from heat and alsocontributes to noise reduction.

*

Race-derived Clutch Technology & Smoother Shift FeelNew F.C.C. Assist & Slipper Clutch was developed based on feedback from racingactivities. The clutch uses two types of cams (an assist cam and a slipper cam),offering two new functions not available on the standard clutch of the Ninja 250R.

*

When the engine is operating at normal rpm the assist cam functions as a self-servomechanism, pulling the clutch hub and operating plate together to compress theclutch plates. This allows the total clutch spring load to be reduced, resulting alighter clutch lever pull when operating the clutch. Fewer (3, vs 4 on the Ninja 250R)clutch springs translate to a 25% lighter clutch lever feel.

*

Assist cam also enables the clutch torque capacity to be increased (to match thestronger engine) without gaining weight.

*

When excessive engine braking occurs – as a result of quick downshifts (or anaccidental downshift) – the slipper cam comes into play, forcing the clutch hub andoperating plate apart. This relieves pressure on the clutch plates to reduceback-torque and help prevent the rear tyre from hopping and skidding.

*

Page 10: Kawasaki Ninja 300

KEY FEATURES

2013MY Ninja 300 MODEL INFORMATION PAGE 10

Clutch has new friction plates made of revised material for smoother operation andmilder engagement.

*

For improved shift feel, shift drum actuation has been changed from a piston-camtype to a low-friction roller type.

*

Wider (10 mm >> 12 mm) primary reduction gears and stronger material for the 6thgear on the input shaft increase durability to match the engine’s stronger output.

*

Shorter 1st and longer 6th gear ratios contribute to a wider-ratio transmission, andtogether with a new 42T rear sprocket offer an excellent match for the new engine’sincreased performance.

*

Heat Management TechnologyLarge openings in the fairing promoteairflow when riding to help dissipateengine heat.Fin design helps direct hot engine airaway from the rider for increasedcomfort.

*

Innovative Kawasaki technology likethe new radiator fan cover (patentpending) located behind the radiatordirects hot air down and away fromthe rider, significantly increasingcomfort when stuck in heavy traffic.Redirecting the air also helps keepthe tank, frame and other parts thatcontact the rider cooler, furtherincreasing rider comfort.

UNCONTESTED PERFORMANCE: CHASSISThe Ninja 300’s predecessor is well knownfor its high-performance chassis. The newchassis makes a number of improvementsto match the new, more powerful engine. Anew diamond frame with revised rigiditybalance has redesigned main tubes andnow uses high-tensile steel sections forincreased longitudinal rigidity. To reduceengine vibration the engine is partiallyrubber mounted. A wider rear tyre adds tohandling stability. And revised suspensionsettings complement the stiffer frame. Theresult is superb handling characteristicsand excellent ride quality.

Circuit-developed Diamond FrameSteel-tube diamond frame offers highstrength and high durability – bothessential in a high-performanceframe.

*

Left and right main tubes now made of high-tensile steel, and added gussetingincrease the frame’s longitudinal rigidity.

*

Main tubes are now wider below the tank, contributing to an optimised rigiditybalance.

*

Front engine mounts (at the front of the cylinder head) are now rubber (previouslyrigid-mount). This results in a reduction in vibration (despite the larger-displacementengine), contributing to the Ninja 300’s high-quality ride feel as well as increasedrider comfort.

*

Rear section of the frame (seat rails) is mounted at a flatter angle to offset the gainin seat height due to the larger rear tyre.
