Welcome to the all-new Theatre & Dance Arts Program

Theatre And Dance Arts (TADA) at KAC isn’t ‘just another dance studio’, but a source for solid training in many facets of theatrical arts. While we offer MANY disciplines of dance, we also offer classes devoted to Acting, Voice and Audition technique and performance...and more. With Director Anne-Marie Gerard Galler’s extensive professional experience and contact with working theater professionals, our classes are geared to students looking for a purely recreational experience, as well as those hoping to make theatre and/or dance a career. Classes, workshops and Master Classes will be conducted by well known NYC and local teachers with an emphasis on educa-tion as opposed to competition. Additionally, classes geared to boys and adults are offered on a multi-level basis; classes for Seniors and Home-Schoolers. Our mission at TADA is to include EVERYONE in the joy of Theatre and Dance - ages 2 to 102!

In conjunction with Katonah Arts Center’s renowned Visual Arts program, TADA at KAC offers a program of excellence across the board in Arts Education, bringing high level professionals and excit-ing multi-discipline Theatre / Dance classes to Northern Westches-ter for a ‘NYC experience’ in every aspect of the Arts.

Winter / Spring Semester will culminate with a Student Showcase on Saturday, June 14th

Second semester enrollment is required to participate.

Early ChildhoodLittle Dancers (ages 3 & 4 yrs.) In this class, students will sing, dance and act. Imagination and movement (and a little bit of silliness) will be the staples of this class while exposing students to the rudiments of dance. This class is fun and appropriate for boys and girls alike!

Pre-Ballet (ages 4 - 5) Give your young child the gift of Ballet, improving their bal-ance, grace, poise and memory while they have fun! Basic bal-let skills, terminology, rhythm and coordination are taught and developed in a supportive and supervised environment.

Enrichment Dance (ages 4 & 5) Designed as an introduction to dance as part of our Renaissance Kindergarten Enrichmentprogram, OR on its own by enrollment.Students will investigate ballet and jazz to learn basic steps and dance vocabulary in each disciplinto explorethe beginnings of dance. Classes are designed to take the student to the ‘next level’ by building upon that foundation in a non-compet-itive instructional-focused environment. Students will learn rhythm, timing, coordination and balance as they experience the joy of dance.

BalletNEW! Kindergarten Ballet (ages 5 - 6) A great follow-up to Pre-Ballet, or introduction to Ballet for first-timers. Ballet is the basis for many forms of dance, so this class is great on its own, or ben-eficial when paired with any other Kindergarten dance course TADA offers. Basic ballet positions, terminology, and steps are taught in a supportive and encouraging environment appropriate to this age group.

Ballet I (ages 6 - 8), Ballet II (ages 8 - 10) Ballet III (ages 11 - 13), Ballet IV (ages 11 - 13)These classes are perfect for the Beginner and Advanced Beginner/Intermediate level ballerina. Instructors will focus on strengthening the muscles, ankles and feet through exercises at the barre and center floor. Proper ballet positions, ‘steps’ and technique will be taught and combined into combinations and center floor work so that students can progress at their own pace in a nurtur-ing and non-competitive environment. Instructors will provide individual attention to ensure that each student works safely at their own ability level and helping them to progress to the ‘next level.’ Ballet IV must have three years of prior dance experience.

Ballet IV (14+)This is a multi-level class designed to encompass and encourage the dancer who has completed Ballet III, or even those who are new to Ballet. Dancers will continue to strengthen the body and core muscles through barre work, particularly the feet and ankles to prepare for more advanced work. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique and developing a repertoire of ‘steps’ and movement through center floor work / combinations / progressions. Instruc-tors will provide individual attention to ensure that each student works safely at their ability level to develop musicality, strength and grace.

NEW! Partnering This class is designed for both male and female dancers who are proficent in basic ballet and/or lyrical technique and are ready to learn the dynamics of lifts, supported dips pirouettes and more. Dancers should be at the intermediate level and above and be taking one or more ballet classes per week.

NEW! Pre-Pointe In this class most work will be done at the barre. This class is designed to strengthen the feet, ankles, back and core, preparing danc-ers in a safe and technically sound manner to go en pointe. Students must also be registered for the Ballet III or Ballet IV on the same day.

Beginning / Adv Beg Adult BalletThis class is for adults who have never had a ballet class or who would like to review the basics before starting their studies again, in a nurturing and non-competitive environment. Instructors will introduce the basic exercis-es and body positions of ballet at the barre, with some center floor work - strengthen and tone while you learn. Come work out, have fun and bring out your “inner ballerina”!

Int / Adv Adult BalletThis class is for adults with a strong working knowledge of ballet technique and terminology. Challenging barre work and center floor work including leaps and turns will be offered, allowing dancers to build on experience.

Jazz/Tap CombinationsJazz/Tap for Kindergartens (ages 4 - 6)

Jazz/Tap I (ages 6 - 8) Jazz/Tap II (ages 8 - 10)

Jazz/Tap III (ages 11 - 14) Jazz/Tap II/III (ages 9 - 11)Combo classes combine tap and jazz giving children a foundation in both of these styles. Students will learn basic steps and dance vocabulary in each

Theatre DanceTheatre Dance III (ages 11 - 14)From West Side Story to Chicago, Oklahoma to Pippin, Theatre Dance is a multi-faceted style of dance seen everywhere-from high school musicals to dinner theaters and Broadway! Students will begin with basic jazz technique with a center floor warm-up encompassing isolations, stregthening and stretching exercises, balance and more, moving to across the floor combina-tions to learn dance vocabulary and steps. They will then learn combinations in the style of such great choreographers as Bob Fosse, Susan Stroman and Jerome Robbins. This is a multi-level class and particularly recommended for singer / actors who’d like to become triple threat performers!

TapInt. Tap III (ages 11 & 13)

Tap IV (ages 11 & 13)

NEW! Beg / Adv Beg Adult Tap Tap dance was once a purely American dance form, is now one of the most popular disciplines worldwide! Feet are used as percussive instruments by striking the floor in many differ-ent ways to create exciting rhythms. Tai ChiChi Gong means, “breath work”. Learn how to use your breath to recon-nect the body with the world around us. Practicing Chi Gong exercises in conjunction with the breath will create a balanced flow of “chi.” This East-ern energy system, thousands of years old, is still widely used today. Modern science has proven chi gong to reduce stress, improve our balance and posture, build muscle, regenerate tissue and bone, circulate blood and most of all, create inner peace.

Tai Chi means “grand supreme ultimate”. Connect the body and breath to the cosmos through this moving meditation. Build a foundation of strength, balance and calm with these beautiful postures. Using our breath, we will learn to reconnect with our “chi”, an eastern term used to describe the energy within us, proven to heal.
