Community Liaison News KPS Band Meeting
The meeting with Jade Tinkler, our new Band Director, was on Monday. Parents and carers got to meet Jade, get
advice on where to source instruments for their young musicians and ask questions. The band will hold its first
rehearsal for 2019 in week 2 of term 1 (note will go out in week 1 next year). If you haven’t filled in an Expression
of Interest note and you have someone interested in giving the band a go, you can grab another note from the
Office.
Thank you to everyone for making our school the wonderful, supportive community that it is. Thank you to every-
one who volunteers at our school and also thank you to those who would volunteer if they were able to. We wish
you a very pleasant, relaxing summer break and look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
Bush Classroom Update #5
What a fantastic day we had on Friday – we started planting in our bush classroom! A huge thank you to Greening
Australia for bringing 500 plants for us, and to Monica and Victoria from Council for coming and helping. We learnt
how to get the plants out of the pots without damaging them and we’re particularly excited because we planted
lots of acacia longifolia which King Parrots (our school’s totem) find particularly tasty. We can’t wait to watch our
new plants grow.
This project is jointly funded through Katoomba Public School P&C and the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

BMMF Update The end of the year is coming and probably we are all wondering about how to keep the kids engaged and busy during the holidays. Well I can’t help with that but I thought I’d quickly fill you in on how volunteering for the Festival works.
After you have signed up (on the online form: www.bmff.org.au from 1st January) you will be assigned to a team for three shifts (3 hours each) and a one hour training session. We normally suggest you do the three shifts across the week-end (one per day). This way you get to see the music and enjoy the festival. In case I hadn’t mentioned it before, if you volunteer, you get a weekend ticket free of charge. So you can and go as you like.
Likewise, if you share childcare with another volunteer, we can make sure you are not together so one of you can hang with the kids. You just need to let us know when you apply. Some of the jobs in the bump-in and bump-out teams are all done before and after the festival. This team gives up nine hours of the week, but then get the whole festival free. There are also jobs in stalls/bars, rubbish pick up and as part of the welcoming team on the gates. It’s a fun way to contribute to the festival and KPS involvement in it.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any specific questions about volunteering or the festival. You can get me on : [email protected] or of course you can always ask me at pick up time at school.

Ella Wallace Book Signing
What an honour! The buzz of excitement was felt by all. A book signing in the KPS
Library and the published author was none other than our own School Captain …
Ella Wallace!
On Friday Ella signed copies of “Total Quack Up” after assembly. We are so proud
of you Ella. Your story has been a hit, it is clever, witty and amusing. You are an
inspiration for the younger students, your peers and the teachers.
Congratulations Ella from all of us at KPS!
St Hilda’s Christmas Extravaganza
Last Sunday our school band gave a beautiful performance at St Hilda’s church in Katoomba in a concert alongside
Blue Mountains City RSL Band, Trombone Quartet and the Blackheath Heathens Choir. They sounded amazing
and highly accomplished for such a young band.
This concert raised $1000 in support of
the Blue Mountains Refugee Support
group. Thank you sincerely to Volker
Schoeler and Samantha Schoeler-Jones
for your amazing time, patience and
commitment to the school band. Our
little band family will really miss you
both.

Garden Working Bee Come along and join in the last Garden Working Bee of the year and give the wonderful veggies and
flowers some TLC before the holidays. We’ll be here between 2pm and 4pm on Tuesday 18th December.
Drama Performance
The KPS Drama Club presented a collection of short fairytales on Tuesday 11th December. These
students have worked hard all year to learn their selected scripts, create characters and
costumes and develop their plays. The performances were fantastic and enjoyed by staff,
students and families of KPS. Well done Drama Club! Ms King & Ms Abbey

Milkshakes with Ms Paine Several of our students received 5 Class Awards this term so they joined Ms Paine, Mrs
Barrie and Ms Brown for a milkshake at the Gingerbread House in Katoomba on Wednesday.
Angus was an early finisher and Luka is probably still full from her milkshake!
