All it took was one real estate class for Top Agent Katie O’Keefe to know she had found her passion. “I had been in sales in a different industry, and burned out on it,” she recalls. “I signed up for a real estate class at a local community college and I was hooked from day one. I knew this was what I wanted to do.” Katie initially gained experience working for a local, independent real estate company, and she liked the boutique feel. “I wasn’t interested in any of the big firms and knew I wanted to stay in a boutique-style brokerage, so I opened up my own.”

Katie now serves all of Milwaukee County and Waukesha County with residential real estate services. “If I can drive there in less than an hour, I’ll cover it,” she says with a laugh. “Otherwise it’s beyond my scope.” Katie works with a lot of sellers and loves working with first-time homebuyers. “They’re always so excited and just a lot of fun to work with.”

A strong commitment to continuing her education and staying ahead of the curve gives Katie a competitive advantage. “The real estate industry is constantly changing and evolving and I try to stay at the top of my

game,” she says. “I spend a lot of time on continuing my education and have a number of specialty designations, including the ones that are hardest to achieve like the ABR, GRI, CRS, and E-Pro.”

Katie understands that her clients are going through a stressful process, whether they are buying or selling. “I try to take the stress out of it and make it exciting. Either way they’re coming into a new chapter of their lives. I want to help my clients enjoy that process.”

She makes it a point to stay in touch with clients so she can keep track of

their lives, as well as let them know what’s changing in her life and her company. “I send personal letters to keep them in the loop about what’s going on with me and my company and my family and wishing them well.”

Katie’s style of doing business is to follow the motto: Never put off until tomorrow what we can get done today. “The key to getting offers to work are to follow deadlines, dates, and structure,” she says. “My clients

might think they have plenty of time, but I encourage them to get things done expeditiously. Getting it done early is what takes the stress away,” she continues. “I give clients all the information they need to make a decision so we can get one thing done and move on to the next.”

Working in real estate means no two days are the same, which is one of

the things Katie loves most about the business. “I feel like every day is an adventure,” she says. “No two clients or transactions are ever the same. It’s kind of like organized chaos and I love it,” she continues. “I’m handling a million things at once and I thrive on that. It’s interesting and exciting to wake up and think what am I going to do today, what am I

recognized as a 5-Star Real Estate Professional for five consecutive years. It is an especially meaningful honor because it’s determined by independently gathered client feedback.

Going forward, Katie has plans to expand the number of team members she has working behind the scenes. “I want to increase my support team so I can continue being at the forefront, working hand-in-hand with clients.”
