ABSTRACT
Zinda Tilismath has almost become synonymous with Hyderabad. This unique product
from the city has become a world famous remedy for cold. People from all parts of the world
apply Zinda Tilismath inside and outside of the nose for quick relief.
Zinda Tilismath is an ancient Unani formula prepared from select herbs with the promise
of 'Health from nature'. Zinda Tilismath is extremely effective in treating several common
ailments like cough, blocked nose, Indigestion, Stomach disorder, & More.
It was in 1920 that a young man, Hakim Mohd. Moizuddin Farooqui having acquired a
degree in Unani medicine invented the liquid formulation which still remains the pharmacist's
envy and patients's relief.
During the last 90 years there is no major change in its packing. The orange pack and the
Black Negro, the familiar trade mark, stands out. A Negro is considered a symbol of strength and
his picture on the package means that the medicine offers strong protection. Macho Negros,
locally known as Siddis, who formed the African Cavelry Guards of the Nizam, are believed to
have inspired the company to go for the logo of Negro. And today it is as popular as the brand
name.
The leading ingredients include eucalyptus oil, cinnamon, cloves, menthol, black pepper,
cardamom, alum, camphor, omum seeds and physic nut. The unique ingredient that imparts
colour to the liquid formulation is rang basa. Another important factor why many people prefer
Zinda Tilismath is that it can be used both internally and externally. Other products of Zinda
Tilismath Karkhana like Farooqui tooth powder, Zinda Balm too have good market, but there
is nothing to beat the flagship. The factory is located in Amberpet area. Neverthless Zinda
Tilismath has become an house hold name in this part of the world just like what Tiger Balm is
to the other parts of the world.

1. INTRODUCTION
At the advert of 20th century, the enlightened culture of Deccan and its social traditional
life was taking a new turn. Hyderabad and Aurangabad were getting harmonized with the new
and revolutionary age of this culture. This was the period when new industries were beginning to
emerge on the surface of Hyderabad and were adding to the grandeur of Deccan.
Though these industries were started on a very small scale, they not only flourished with
the passage of time but also became a fountain-head of progress for others. Hakeem Mohd
Moizuddin Farooqui, the inventor and founder of Zinda tilismath and Farooky tooth power, was
one of those distinguished personalities who took the social life of Deccan to the age of
industries revolution.
In the royal regime of Hyderabad those personalities appreciated the importance of
commerce and industry. By way of Zinda Tilismath (Karkhana) they provided very precious
Unani chemical formula in the sphere of medical treatment.
A few years before the advert of 20th Century the inventor of Zinda Tilismath late
Hakeem Mohd.Moizuddin Farooqui founded the medical Karkhana (factory). In those days the
number of Doctors and Hakeems were limited.
If one puts a glance over the unprecedented struggle and kind Behavior of Hakeem
Mohd. Moizuddin Farooqui, one would naturally come to the conclusion that life is a becon of
blessing, particularly for the youth who are working hard for their better future.
2
Late Hakeem sahib has proved by his ceaseless efforts, any work done with sincerity
meets with success, by the grace of almighty Allah. Hakeem Mohd.Moizuddin Farooqui was an
embodiment of sacrifice and service.
His father late Fareeduddin Farooqui sahib was a peshkar in the court. He was born in
Aurangabad. Almighty Allah had blessed Hakeem Mohd.Moizuddin Farooqui with the virtue of
healing touch. Initially he used to treat his patients with quick and easy to afford formulas.
Under the instructions of his father, he obtained the certificate in Unani Medicine from
the Unani Tibbi Board Charminar , he also completed a course of homeopathic medicine and
surgery from Chicago medical college of homeopathy. He was awarded the doctor of medicine
& homeopathic Surgeon on 26th April, 1932 from the same College. Later he established a
dispensary in Moti market in his own house itself.
The formulas of Zinda Tilismath and that of Farooqui tooth powder are not gifted Ones,
but are the very invention of the Hakeem sahib. At the outset the Hakeem sahib tested the
efficacy of Zinda Tilismath on various persons/ patients and after their health restored, it began
to be manufactured and marketed regularly.
In 1920, the Karkhana Zinda Tilismath was established at his house itself and
subsequently it was shifted to Moti Market. For the preparation/ manufacturing and publicity of
Zinda Tilismath Hakeem sahib worked hard with foresight and wisdom.
If one knows about these strategies, one would rightly and surely come to the conclusion
that there is no scope for any sort of disappointment. Ones nervousness would be replaced by
courage and determination. There would remain no pretext for lazy persons.
3
In the first ever exhibition, which was held in the public gardens, the stall of Zinda
tilismath, was established. The Zinda tilismath Karkhana Zinda tilismath was shifted to amberpet
in 1949. The Hakeem sahib expired on 9th February 1954.
THE REASON BEHIND THE NEGRO LOGO
Hakeem Mohd.Moizuddin Farooqui sahib had selected a very unique logo, in those days,
which readily impressed the minds of the people. This logo depicts a Negro armed with an
arrow. The black Negros of Africa are deemed to be the emblem of boundless strength and finest
form of health. The arrow tied on the back of Negro represents that the medicine Zinda tilismath
enters and functions in the body of the patient and kills the germs of the disease. An overall
impression is that this Negro logo has been used as a sign of your bodyguard.

Similarly for Farooky tooth powder the unique trademark of S H A R K (fish) has been
selected. Since shark is very famous for its extremely sharp and strong Teeth, it has been tried to
give an impression that the teeth of those using Farooky tooth powder regularly would also be
sharp, strong and shining.
4
After his demise in the year 1954 his legal heirs become the partners as per sharriat law.
The medicine namely Zinda tilismath and Farooky tooth powder have become house-hold names
due to their unbelievable healing effects and availability at affordable cost. No machines are used
for the manufacturing process particularly in case of medicine, Zinda tilismath. Filling machines
are used for filling the Bottle, in case of Farooky tooth powder, only the grinding machine is
used for grinding the ingredients for making powder.
