Karelia UAS operates in Joensuu on two main campuses. The campuses are multi-field learning and development environments that enable study possibilities across the boundaries of different degree programmes. With a total of 7 major fields of study to choose from, Karelia UAS offers education in 16 Bachelor’s and in 5 Master’s degree programmes.

International exchange students can study in all degree programmes at Karelia UAS. Moreover, a variety of projects provide practical training opportunities for international students. Multidisciplinary education modules and intensive courses arranged together with our international partners are also an important part of our educational supply.

Karelia UAS guarantees high quality education with a long, consistent and comprehensive tradition of quality assurance work (audited by FINEEC). The quality process is participatory, open and active: student’s voice is heard through an extensive feedback system and in a continuous dialogue between the staff and the students.

The operations of Karelia UAS emphasise student counselling, guidance and genuine concern. Staff members, students and partners form a closely knit higher education community. Active cooperation enforces fluency of studies and supports the aims and wellbeing of our students. Karelia UAS cooperates actively with the Student Union POKA.

Joint responsibility is the key element in our student counselling – students are provided with guidance and advice by student counsellors and student tutors. We also organise friendship activities for our international students. They get an opportunity to explore everyday Finnish life with a designated friend family.

Karelia UAS students have a chance to develop their practical skills in a variety of learning environments, laboratories and simulation premises. Studies are based on the newest theoretical knowledge and, simultaneously, they are strongly orientated towards working life.

Our curricula are developed together with our partners to meet the needs of future labour markets. We work actively with our partners in developing and implementing our education. As a result we can e.g. provide our students with interesting practical training placements, project studies, development tasks and theses.

Karelia UAS is a central part of the regional innovation system running various national and international development projects. The needs of research, development and innovation activities arise from business and working life and the activities of Karelia UAS. RDI activity aims at the development and creation of services, products, methods, facilities and processes as well as solving practical problems. All of our projects are integrated into teaching.

Karelia UAS has two focus areas: Modern Welfare Services and Sustainable Energy and Materials.

In these areas Karelia UAS aims at obtaining nationally and internationally recognised expertise and competence. They have been selected on the basis of the strengths and key development needs of the region as well as choices made with the key partners.
