It seems as though the use of organic apple cider vinegar (with “the mother”) is becoming ever so popular. Its uses range from health benefits, food en-hancement, and utilizing it as a natural cleaner. Quite a few

studies have clearly shown that vinegar can help re-duce hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, hyperlipidem-ia, and obesity (Petsiou, Mitrou, Raptis, Dimitriadis, 2014). Taking its versatile and valuable properties in-to consideration, it could be given the name “liquid gold”. Bragg organic apple cider vinegar seems to be a desired brand amongst consumers and they offer free recipes on their website found at www.bragg.com. It is wonderful when natural products can be used to supplement one’s health. However, it is vital that individuals consult their personal care physician prior to starting any new health plans and never ab-ruptly stop taking prescribed medications without physician’s consent. Trying new health trends can be a fun and exciting experience, but keep in mind that not every trend will work for every individual. Team up with your physician to find a health trend that works for you. Petsiou, E., Mitrou, P., Raptis, S.,Dimitriadis, G.

As the New Year comes and goes we are left asking ourselves what changes we will make this year. What will we start or stop doing? These resolutions can be very important to us, but even more important is the right mindset to accomplish these new goals. When goals are identified but execution is minimal or un-planned it often results in the goals being slowly left behind. It can even cause regret or decreased self-esteem when a goal is desired and not met. So what is the right mindset to be in to complete your goals? There are several approaches that can be tak-en when making a change in your life or setting a goal. Choosing a goal that you are able to complete is the first step. Start small and work your way up! Setting the goal far from reach will increase the likeli-ness that it is forgotten before being achieved. Re-search has shown that an implemental mindset has

Tackling New Year’s Resolutions

proven more successful than a deliberative mindset (Brandsatter, Giesinger, Job & Frank, 2015). This means that setting a goal with the steps you will take to implement the goal is a more practical approach than choosing a goal based on pros and cons and only focusing on completion without the how-to-get-there part identified (Brandsatter, Giesinger, Job & Frank, 2015). No more saying “I will quit biting my nails” or “I will start doing yoga”. Instead give your goals a list of steps. For example-Step 1: I will choose a location to do yoga, either at home or at the gym. Step 2: I will choose a yoga program that I enjoy. Step 3: I will do yoga every Monday this month. Step 4: I will do yoga three times a week next month. Providing yourself with these steps allows you to complete much easier and smaller goals along the way. After completing one step you will be more motivated and empowered to complete the next step. This approach gives you victories along the way instead of road blocks or ob-stacles. If you are an instant gratification type then set really small steps so that you can see your pro-gress quickly. Your mood is directly linked to the mo-tivation and completion of your goal (Fishbach & Labroo, 2007). Setting a goal that is not accessible or will take a long time to accomplish will lead to despair and negative emotions. These thoughts and emotions in turn affect the motivation and determination need-ed to complete a goal. Do not decrease your chances by setting yourself up for something out of reach. If your goal is obtainable but may take 3 months or more to reach, then trying to break it down will allow you to focus on a shorter time frame. Even the most motivated person can run out of steam if they feel like they are spinning their wheels without progress. Give yourself the New Year’s resolution of success by providing the best circumstances for com-pleting your goals! Breaking down a large goal into easy steps will build you up and increase your ability to obtain your goal and sustain it, whatever it may be. Choose accessible goals so that you know you can achieve them. Keep your motivation and determina-

tion high by scoring victories throughout your jour-ney! Happy New Years! Go complete your resolu-tions! Brandstätter, V., Giesinger, L., Job, V., & Frank, E.

Instructions to make the meatballs: In a bowl, add all the ingredients and with a

wooden spoon (or ever better with your hands) squish well and combined.

Take small pieces of the mixture and shape the balls into desired size. I prefer them the size of a walnut. The recipe yields 50-55 meatballs.

Place the meatballs on a cookie sheet topped with parchment paper. Once all the meatballs are shaped, place the cookie sheet in the freez-er for 20 minutes or until frozen enough to han-dle.

Remove the meatballs from the cookie sheet and place them in a freezer safe ziplock bag.

Use as needed. To cook the meatballs, heat about 1/4 cup of oil

in a medium large frying pan. Add the meatballs and cook over medium heat for few minutes, tossing the meatballs to brown on all sides.

Remove from the saucepan on paper towels. ***Make it super easy by using premade frozen meatballs! To make the meatball casserole: Heat the oven to 350F. Place 20-25 fried meatballs in a casserole dish. Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the marinara

sauce. Slice the frozen biscuits in half and top the cas-

serole with them. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until

the casserole is bubbly on the edges and the biscuits are golden brown.

Serve warm with more grated cheese on top. Roxana’s Home Baking. (2014). Upside down meat-

ball casserole. Retrieved from http://roxanashomebaking.com/upside-meatball-casserole-recipe/
