Introduction

KAP:

A KAP(knowledge, attitude and practices) survey is a representative study of a group of population to gather the information what is known, believed and done in context to a particular topic.

In KAP survey data is collected orally through a structured questionnaire i.e. sample population being interviewed. The collected data is then analyzed as per the design of study

EMR

Electronic medical record (EMR) are computerized medical information systems that includes collection, storage and display of individual patient’s clinical records.

EMR has clinical and research benefits as like; Reduce medical errors, prescription errors Quality Patient care Trends of shift of diseases Protect patient ‘s medical information

Page 4: KAP analysis of EMR in India

Rationale of study

EMR/EHR is adopted in many countries like Netherland, UK ,USA with adoption rate of more than 90%.India is still trailing at 18%.

Limited studies are conducted on gathering information regarding knowledge and attitude of doctors toward EMR in India.

Bangalore and Jaipur are the targeted segments of HP where they intended to grow further.

KAP survey help us give idea of; knowledge gaps, set of beliefs or behavior patterns among

respondents and gave a brief about their interests in EMR.

Objectives

General: To understand existing knowledge of, attitude toward and practices of use of EMR system among doctors.Specific: To understand the existing knowledge of EMR software among

doctors of Bangalore and Jaipur. To understand attitude of doctors toward EMR software. To understand existing practices of use of EMR. To generate awareness of EMR among doctors of Bangalore and

Jaipur.

Discussion

The data collected from the study of KAP among doctors of Bangalore and Jaipur toward EMR was analyzed. Following are the key findings;

Conclusion

All the data collected was primary from two cities i.e. Bangalore and Jaipur.

KAP survey was conducted and it was found that knowledge of EMR systems were more in Bangalore.

Respondents with practice components i.e. who are currently using EMR or ever used EMR were also more in Bangalore.

Attitude components show diversity with each parameters in both the cities.

Page 35: KAP analysis of EMR in India

Recommendations

To met underline objective to launch in the targeted segments i.e. Bangalore and Jaipur further, findings should be incorporated to;

⨮ Generating Awareness of EMR & its benefits⨮ Providing training⨮ EMR system set up assistance⨮ Customization of system as per requirement⨮ Back up support

Page 36: KAP analysis of EMR in India

Limitations

Unequal sample size from both the cities limitizes to come to any comparative conclusions.

Targeted population was not divided as per different medical streams because sample design was random and convenient.

More analytical tests could be performed in SPSS but due to time constrain it was not done.

Business intelligence tool that is tableau software couldn’t be used to represent data due to time constrain.
