• KCUMB was founded in 1916 as the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery

• Located in Downtown Kansas City, MO• Total medical school enrollment: 1,005

Induction

• First and second year students who are in the top 30% of their class are eligible to apply for membership.

• Members are chosen based on their degree of professionalism, scholarship, campus involvement, along with service to the University and the profession

• A banquet will be held in April to induct the new 1st and 2nd-year members

Club Standards

• Academically, must stay within top 45% of class • Not participating in club committee will get your

membership removed; no refunds of SSP membership fee• Must participate in 1 community service event per

semester (Blood Drives, DSG, D.O. Presentation)• Standards apply to everybody according to our chapter’s

by-laws

• There are currently 130 members of the Delta Chapter• Class of 2016: 55• Class of 2017: 48• Class of 2018: 27

• 44 of these members were inducted last spring

• Fundraiser Event– We will be holding a

fundraiser around mid October.

– Chipotle burritos will be served

– So come take a break from studying and enjoy burritos!!!

• We are also planning to organize at least 2-3 fundraisers for the academic year.

• Anatomy Mock Practicals– As part of the chapter’s scholarship component, we will provide Gross

Anatomy mock practicals for 1st year medical students:– Musculoskeletal – Cardiopulmonary– Gastrointestinal– Renal– Neuroscience

• Osteopathic Medicine Presentation– We partner with a local college’s honor society (University of

Missouri – Kansas City) to promote Osteopathic medicine.

– Presentation Topics include:• History of Osteopathic profession• Acceptance into an Osteopathic program• OMT demonstration

Tutoring: • Please submit your hours to me ([email protected]) if you

tutored on behalf of SSP.• Tutors be prepared for an email from the student directly who is

requesting tutoring, and then you guys can figure out when to meet between the two of you.

Gold Humanism Honor Society

• Exciting news! We are starting a new honor society on campus.

• Why? Many DO/MD schools around the country have GHHS, and we also want to highlight our devotion to humanistic medicine.

• Mission: Recognize third and fourth year medical students who are exemplars of humanistic patient care, and who can serve as role models, mentors, and leaders in medicine.

Gold Humanism Honor Society

• Who is chosen? – PROBABLY YOU! YOU SMART SSPers…and students who demonstrate

good clinical skills, leadership skills, and compassion during third year clinical rotations.

• Process of applying:– Peer review nomination and recommendation from preceptor– Formal application process and selection from KCU committee– No more than 15% of class can join, must be in the top 50% of third

year class rank.

• Blood Drives– We will hold 4 blood drives this year. Our partnerships are with the

Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City and the American Red Cross.

• Down Syndrome Guild Society of KC– We thoroughly enjoy volunteering at

the Down Syndrome Guild events with the children and their families.

– Future Events include volunteering at their Walk Relay at Arrowhead Stadium, their Easter Party, and their Prom Party
