HYDERABAD, (PTI) Tennis star Sania Mirza, who was summoned inconnection with an alleged case of non-payment of Service Tax, hasdenied any tax evasion. In response to the summons issued to thetennis star on February 6, her Char tered Accountant appeared on herbehalf before the Service Tax authorities yesterday, as she has gone abroad. Shecontended that the one crore rupees given to her by the Telangana government wasa "training incentive"."Sania's representative submitted certain documents before the Service Tax au-thorities and contended that the Rs 1 crore shereceived from Telangana government was train-ing incentive and the amount was not towardsbecoming state's brand ambassador," officialsources told PTI. The sources said the au-thorities are studying the documentsbefore initiating future course of ac-tion. The Principal Commissionerof the Service Tax office here hadasked Sania to appear before it inperson or through an authorisedagent in connection with an in-ves t i ga t i on aga ins t a l l egednon-payment/evasion of ServiceTax. What do you call these? Haan, the Pheel goood type of film.Running shaadi keeps the proceedings running at a hecticpace. With a shaadi happening every ten minutes you'd ex-

pect cer tain strain monotony to waft into the proceedings. But no.Debutant director Amit Roy knows how to make every shaadi lookfresh…or freessss, as our Bihari hero would say. And hey, this is asgood a place as any to tell you, Amit Sadh's Bihariaccent is bang-on. Neitheroverdone, nor too casual it fits the character's lackadaisical personality like a handin glove. Ram Bharose-yup, that's our Bihari Baba's name-a Bihari migrant inAmritsar, loves the feisty Punjabi girl Nimmi. She is the doughty Sardarni who atthe beginning of the film asks her father's helpful employee to help her with anabortion. Ahem.Did I tell you? Runningsaadi breaks a lot of rules regarding how theHindi film's lead should behave. He is a weakling and a doormat , afull-on phattu .She is a user-friendly clever little chick always aler tabout what the guy friends ,the Bihari and his buddy Cyberjeet(ArshBajwa, a full-on fun-toosh) are up to. The trio gets together to setup a website that helps couples to elope.The screenplay (written jointly by director Roy and Navjot Gulati) willremind you strongly of Maneesh Sharma's Band Baaja BaaraatandImtiaz Ali's Jab We Met. Funny, how every Punjaban who wants toelope reminds us of Kareena Kapoor,with or without the Khan. Though

Tapsee Pannu's accent is a tad over-the-top she brings her own indi-vidual sassiness to her par t. Neither a prototype nor too eccentric tolose her charm Tapsee plays Nimmi with a verve that draws herclose to the audience.Amit Sadh is the 'perfect' foil. Foolish and flawed he is the kind ofsucker who falls into a pit because …well, it is there. These twofatal ly f lawed characters are run through the gr inder with agloriouswhirr in a plot that relentlessly weaves whimsical adven-tures around their unfinished personalities. The finest segment of the plotmoves to Patna where -what else?-a wedding is about to occur. The preparationsare in full bloom. It is here that director Amit Roy captures the flavor and fervor of thefestivities that festoon the Great Indian Muddle Class to a tenuous brand of culturalgrounding. From the girl's officious brother(played brilliantly by Pankaj Jha) to thebride's makeup girl (who takes umbrage when her skills are questioned by Tapsee)and is pacified with ice cream by the bride's bro, every character falls into placewith a thundering rightness of tone. Runningshaadi has its share of flaws. Thebeeped-out 'com' fromRunningshaadi is an irksome speedbreaker. Also, the effortto keep the goings-on constantly brisk-paced gets exhausting at some pointin the narrative. I am really not sure when. It all happens so swiftlyand happily.And fluently. This is a rom.com with a dot between the'rom' and 'com' reminding us that the traditional romantic comedy hascome a long way. And dot's the whole truth.
