Nancy Feldbruegge and Vivian Melsness are two sisters with a passion for dance, and their enthusiasm is infectious. It should be no surprise then that the studio they opened in 1999, has grown beyond their wildest dreams. In only ten short years, Allegro Danceworks successfully brought its fi rst generation of dancers from the Pre-School level, to successfully passing RAD Vocational Examinations and receiving accolades at various dance competitions. “We are so very proud of our students’ achievements,” said Co-Director, Nancy Feldbruegge. “It’s especially amazing when you think that we have taught some of these dancers from the age of 3, and we’ve been able to watch them grow up and
blossom as dancers and people.” The studio is located on the corner of Hobin and Main Street in Stittsville and boasts three full-sized studios and loads of common areas for parents and students. Recently, the team has announced their expansion to create a fourth studio this summer. “We’re very excited about this expansion,” commented Vivian Melsness. “It comes at a time when all of our programs are really taking off.” They have been honored with Diamond (Stittsville) and Platinum (Kanata) Reader’s Choice Awards. “It’s very touching when your clients recognize your business this way. The business has been serving the vacuum and sewing needs of Kanata and Stittsville residents since owner Ian Taylor opened the business 22 years ago. “We try to present an easy going environment. We aren’t high pressure sales,” says Taylor, explaining his business philosophy. Taylor has extensive knowledge when it comes to vacuum
cleaners. Before starting his own business, he worked as a wholesale representative for Beam. The vacuum and sewing centre sells a wide range of makes of portable vacuums, including Electrolux, Dyson, Riccar, Eureka, Samsung and Hoover. It also specializes in Beam and Eureka central vacuum systems. On the sewing side of things, Taylor sells Brother sewing machines. He believes both new and loyal customers patronize his business for the way he and his staff treat customers.

14 Years of helping students
Tiny Hoppers is a popular children’s play centre that has been quickly growing throughout the Ottawa area. The Bridlewood location opened its doors in the spring of 2008 and has been a destination of choice by many of the area’s parents and children. For the tiniest of children, the centre offers fun fi lled, parent and child, play programs where families are offered a different play experience each day of the week. The play classes focus on music and movement play with parachutes, balls, bubbles, scarves, ribbons and instruments. All programs are theme based, with a focus on developing the children’s gross motor skills through active play. In the newest program, “Tales From the Pond,” play instructors bring popular children’s stories to life using a variety of puppets, games, songs, crafts and activities. As the children grow older, Tiny Hoppers gives them a chance to explore and have fun independently from their parents with a fun fi lled nursery
school program. Children ages 2 ½ and up are invited to spend mornings or full days in a specially designed educational program that focuses on early literacy, math and science skills. The idea behind the nursery school is to introduce educational concepts in a way that is fun and exciting for the children. Many graduates from the nursery school move into the kindergarten care program, which provides children, in the area, with before and after school care. This program has been designed by a former kindergarten teacher and is an educational experience, based on the Ontario Curriculum, giving children an enrichment opportunity with a focus on having fun while learning! The Tiny Hoppers program is so popular among Ottawa schools that they are often asked to come in and bring their “On The Go” play programs to the primary children. Blinds with Flair – Part of the Ottawa community since 1981 The staff at Blinds with Flair and Drapery Store know the window treatment industry: they have spent the past 29 years providing window covering and decoration services to residential and commercial projects, including government, the Prime Minister’s offi ce, embassies, schools, churches, medical clinics and numerous model homes for many of Ottawa’s most prominent builders. The company offers window treatments such as hard window coverings - blinds, shades, and shutters - and soft window treatments such as sheers and draperies, as well as upholstery and bedding. Blinds with Flair are especially good at helping people who are downsizing from a large home to a condo, garden home or lifestyle bungalow. There are eight people on staff, and the salespeople have an average of
13 years experience. Blinds with Flair are currently recruiting to handle the increased demand. They are also an important part of the community, and love to help out, such as their signifi cant donation to Habitat for Humanity in November 2009. Chantal Lemaire, managing partner of Blinds with Flair, has also recently initiated a “Technology Forward” fundraising program with École élémentaire catholique Terre-des-Jeunes to benefi t school technology programs, such as the purchase of electronic Smart Boards and other technological equipment. “Technology is a necessary component of education at every level nowadays, and I would also welcome other schools to contact me to join this venture,” she says. Jiffy Photo & Print still handles all of your photography work, but over the last 10 years has become a copy shop & full service printer as well. “One of the things we always hear from clients is that they didn’t know we did all this,” says Jiffy’s owner, Mark Vermeer. Jiffy offers a full range of printing services from simple photocopies to business cards, brochures, marketing cards and booklets.
