Who is required to perform community service?

• KS College Scholarship recipients• ʻImi Naʻauao Scholarship recipients

How much community service is required?

• KS College Scholarship recipients - 50 hours of community service. • ʻImi Naʻauao scholarship recipients – 100 hours of community service.

When must I complete these community services hours?

• Between July 1, 2019 thru June 30, 2020. • July 8, 2020 is the deadline by which it must be input into the CSP`

Imi Na`auao recipients: Spring 2020 award disbursement is contingent on submission of 50 community service hours.

Why community service?

The purpose of the requirement is to incorporate the values of servant leadership exemplified by our founder, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop and is a part of the Terms and Conditions of the award.

Community Service Guidelines

1. Recipients must perform their required hours of community service between July 1st through June 30th of the award year.

2. Community service may be performed with multiple organizations.

3. Community service must meet the following criteria:

• Be performed with a non-profit organization

• Be unpaid

• Does not benefit a KS student, staff, or programs.

• Does not benefit political campaigns, programs, or parties.

• Required internship and practicum hours will not be accepted. However, hours in excess of your internship and practicum (and unpaid) may be reported as community service as long as the activities meet all other guideline criteria.

Note: Students are encouraged to perform service within their own community for an organization that benefits a Native Hawaiian, indigenous, or under-served population.

Tips for Success!

1. Confirm that the organization is a non-profit prior to volunteering.

• Research the organization before volunteering.• If volunteering out of state, google non-profit organizations near you.• Contact Outreach Support Services for any questions.

2. Obtain your supervisor’s name and contact information (email and phone) when you complete your activities. KS may contact this person to verify hours submitted.

3. Include a detailed description of the activities performed.

4. Use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to access the CSP. Note: Safari and Internet Explorer do not support all CSP features.

5. Click the SUBMIT button to send your community service activity for review.

Registration: Step 1First time users must input the following information:

1. Date of Birth

2. Last Name

3. First NameNote: Some names may exceed the maximum character limit. If you are having issues registering, please contact KS Resource Center (KSRC) directly.

4. Scholarship Program Name: College Need-Based Scholarships or ʻImi Naʻauao

5. The most recent email address you provided to KS Outreach Support Services

Certification and Authorization

After successful login, you will be prompted to complete the Certification and Authorization acknowledgement. You must select YES to access the CSP.

Viewing Saved ActivitiesAfter ADDING community service hours in the CSP activities can be saved, edited, and deleted until the “Submit” button is selected. Viewing displays the organization information, date, hours completed, description of activities, status and total current hours performed.

Editing ActivitiesActivities that have been saved in the CSP can be viewed, printed, and edited by selecting the VIEW/PRINT or EDIT button at the far right of the screen. EDITING requires completing all required fields (#1-11) with correct information and then selecting the “Add Hours” button to update hours. At the top of the page a message will appear confirming the edited hours have been updated. *NOTE: Make sure to delete any hours that are incorrect.

Deleting ActivitiesSelect the DELETE button at the far right of the screen. Click “OK” to confirm the removal of the service record.

**A prompt confirming the service hours have been successfully removed will appear.

Submitting ActivitiesImportant! You must click SUBMIT to send your community service information to KS Outreach Support Services.

We encourage students to submit your activities immediately after you complete your community service.

Once SUBMIT has been selected, the following prompt will appear in the CSP. Read instructions carefully and select the appropriate option to submit your community service activities. A prompt confirming success submission will appear.
