To whom this may concern:

I wish to apply for the position of an Elementary School Teacher, preferably within the primary grade levels.

My resume provides you with an overview of my relevant experience and training. I am a recent college graduate that is enthusiastically seeking a job within the inner-city schools. I was once labeled as an underprivileged child, with the help of many teachers and mentors I overcame that obstacle and now am proof that “It takes a village to raise a child” and would love to give back to our future. I am currently enrolled in a M.Ed. Program at Mercer University; expected graduation date is December of 2012. I will also be receiving an ESOL Endorsement with this degree. As mentioned by references, I am dependable with a strong work ethic. I go beyond the level of expectations to provide the best for our youth. I maintain joyfulness and patience while motivating and encouraging students to be their best.

I completed my student teaching experience at Alice Coachman Elementary School located in the city of Albany, Georgia in the Kindergarten grade level. My education, student teaching, clinical and volunteer service combined with my passion for teaching and training children has equipped me for the classroom.

I aspire to build on my achievements and take on the position of being a highly qualified Elementary School Teacher at your prospering school. I’d be delighted to hear from you. I can easily be contacted by phone or email.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

At first, I thought that my philosophy of education just fell into the

category of progressivism. However, during my reading, observations

and student teaching experience I found the philosophies that will fit

me best. I am also very fond of essentialism and experientialism. I

believe that I am progressivists because within the classroom children

should becoming interactive in their learning. Research shows that

students learn best when they are collaboratively working. My most

preferred is the experientialistic approach. Experientialist believe that

things are constantly changing. It is based on the view that reality is

what you experience. Children must understand that everything is

forever changing and we must learn to become accustomed to this

trend, especially in education. I also believe in essentialism through the

aspect of morals that I was taught by in school. I was taught to respect

teachers, classmates, and oneself. I hope that when the students depart

from my classroom they will have taken morals and values along with

their basic knowledge skills.

It is of utmost importance that students receive an education that will

not only focus on curriculum, but that children acquire skills and

knowledge base that will precede them and allow them to function at a

superior level throughout their entire academic career and after; become

a well rounded individual. To achieve this, they must have maximized

exposure to technologies, a greater support base, a diverse and

interdisciplinary curriculum and a teacher who is willing to give their

all to ensure that their students achieve.

My professional disposition includes me being dedicated to a field that I

absolutely love. It also includes me having the ability to go into the

classroom with a positive attitude and a commitment to teach/learn.

As a hopeful member of the teaching profession, I plan to be actively involved as a teacher. At a minimum this

will include attending school committee and staff meetings, participating in professional development

workshops, and volunteering my time for various school events. I also feel that a member of the teaching

profession should regularly interact professionally and respectfully with families, students, and

colleagues. Building positive relationships with those around me will be a priority. Lastly, I hope to seek out

feedback from my colleagues, mentors, professional publishings whenever possible so that I can always

update and improve my teaching.

I hope to volunteer my free time toward extracurricular school activities whenever possible! While student

teaching, I became involved in several school events.

My classroom management approach will be student-centered as I

will help students to develop a sense of responsibility for their

actions. The behavior standards in my classroom will be high and

developmentally appropriate for the age I am teaching. The students

will play a large role in creating the rules for our classroom

community. Together, we will decide what is appropriate behavior

for our classroom, and I will write these rules as positive statements

to be displayed in the room. I will ensure that all students

understand the expectations of our classroom. Students will be

made aware what the consequences for breaking the rules of our

classroom community are. I will strive to be firm, kind, and

consistent in my approach to rules and rule breaking. My goal will

be to create a calm, safe, and orderly classroom - one in which I can

teach and my students can learn.

I completed my student teaching at Alice Coachman Elementary School in

Albany, Georgia. My supervising teacher was Mrs. Tamara Adams, a wonderful

Kindergarten teacher of a gender-based classroom. I began

observing/volunteering at this school a semester earlier so I was familiar with

the school’s environment. Approximately 94% of the students there belonged to

the African American ethnic group. Approximately 93% of the students

attending this school are economically disadvantaged. Twelve percent of the

students here are with disabilities. As you can see, I had the opportunity to work

with an very unique and rewarding group of students at Alice Coachman.

During my time at Alice Coachman Elementary, I worked in a kindergarten

classroom made up of 16 learners (all female). I gained so many memories,

developed many skills and long-life relationships.

I was born in Gadsden, Alabama and relocated as a teen with my family to Atlanta, Georgia which is where I originally fell in love with the art of teaching. During my years of high

school, I was greatly influenced by my wonderful teachers. My experience within their classrooms had such an impact on me that I decided right then to pursue teaching in

college. I attended the Albany State University in Albany, Georgia and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education in 2009.

One of my favorite hobbies is crafting, giving time to those in need, and learning new things. I was a member of my high school soccer team, band (marching & concert), National

Beta Club, and School Catering. I was also a member of Project Success Phase III of 100 Black Men of Atlanta. This program fully-sponsored me to pursue a degree in education.

During college, I was an active member of Flint River Habitat for Humanity in which we built many homes for underprivileged families. I also became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, in which I continue to do community service. I was involved in the

NAACP, National Alumni Association, and many other programs across campus. Academic-wise I was a part of Kappa Delta Pi, which is the International Honor Society in Education. I

was also blessed to make the Dean’s List several times.

I am currently working as an Administrative Assistant at Morehouse School of Medicine, but I am now pursuing to utilize my skills and credentials in the educational field.
