IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE1. The Kalotsav 2014 is conducted by Sahodaya School Complex –
Alappuzha in three venues viz: Matha Senior Secondary School,Thumpoly; St. Aloysious Senior Secondary School, Punnapra; Al-Ameen Public School, Chandiroor. All the member schools who hadremitted the membership fee and entry fee can participate in theevent.
2 Competition for different item are divided into four categories.
Category 1 – Class III & IVCategory 2 – Class V,VI & VIICategory 3 – Class VIII, IX & XCategory 4 – Class XI & XII
3. One Student can participate in a maximum of three individualItems and two group items.
4. One student cannot compete in the category other than his/her own.If found participating in more than one category his/her registrationwill be cancelled.

(excluding food coupons).
The duly filled entry forms should reach the St. Aloysius Senior SecondarySchool on or before 3rd September 2014 along with payments in cash.
ENTRY FORMEntry forms will be send to all schools as email before 26th August2014. All Schools are requested to fill the same and send it [email protected] or [email protected]. 5. A School can register one student each in all individual items.
6. One school can participate in a maximum of 5 Group items fromCategory 2 & 3 (on the whole) & 2 Group items from Category 4.
7. There is no restriction of sex and category to participate in Commongroup items. One school can register their team in all the commongroup items.
(Group Song, Patriotic Song, Mime, One Act Play, Western MusicConcert.)
8. Even if there is only one team / participant for an item, thatcompetition will be conducted and prizes will be awarded.
9. Only audio CDs will be allowed for dance items & mime. Youare requested to record the song or music of each item inseparate CDs. The CDs should be handed over to the stagemanager 15 minutes before the performance.
10. Participants are not permitted to wear their school uniforms nor canthey reveal their identity.
11. Participants who secure first, second and third positions with a mini-mum of 50% marks shall be awarded merit certificate in both indi-vidual and group items.
12. For writing and drawing competitions, participants shall bring pen,pencil, colour, brush etc. Only paper shall be provided at the venue.
13. In PowerPoint competition MS Windows XP Computers will be pro-vided with MS Power Point 2007 version. No CD/Pen drive/SD cards/Floppy/Internet shall be allowed.
14. For western Music concert Songs and Instruments should be of purewestern genre. No fusion allowed.
15. One electronic Key Board/Organ/Piano and a drum set will be pro-vided by the organisers on the stage, which will be common to all.Teams are not permitted to bring an additional common instrument.
16. Any participant/school violating the stated rules shall deemed dis-qualified for the item.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING THE COMPETITIONS
1. In the Manual where an item shown as common for boys and girls,means that there will be no separate competition for boys and girls.A Group item shown as common for boys / girls category, meansthat boys alone or girls alone or both boys and girls togetherirrespective of category shall perform the item.
2. For the items where back stage singing is allowed, singers shallbelong to the same category and sex. In the case of common itemssingers shall be boys/ girls / mixed.
3. In all competitions both stage performers and back stage performersare eligible for certificate and prizes. In the case of One Act play,Characters and 3 persons for stage arrangements will be givencertificate.
4. In the case of Thiruvathira, Margamkali and Opana, both stageperformers and back stage performers shall wear the same costumeand make up.
5. For Ottanthullal, back stage singers can be non students as well.
6. For writing and drawing competitions, participants shall bring pen,pencil, colour etc. Only paper shall be provided at the venue. Thesubject / topic shall be decided by the judges.
7. For elocution, topics shall be given in advance, But for extempore,topic shall be decided by the judges and given to the participantsfive minutes before the competition.
8. For classical music competition, sruthi box shall be allowed andparticipants can sing any raga.
9. In Mappilapattu, film songs shall not be allowed.

Certificates and prizeswill be given only to those students who perform on the stage.Students registered as standby need not pay any registration fee.They will not be issued any Participation Certificate.

19. Once the competition is over, the stage managers shall do thetabulation work in the presence of the judges, when the tabulation iscompleted, the code number and the grade of the winners shall beannounced on the stage by one of the judges.

In case of disputes, if any, an appeal shall be filed in the specifiedperforma, given in annexure-A along with an appeal fee of Rs. 2000/- within one hour of announcement of the result, If decision taken bythe Appeal Committee is favourable to the applicant, the appeal feeshall be returned. If it is not, the same shall be forfeited.

c) The file name should be compulsorily participant’s chest number. Allother file names will be considered as invalid entry.
d) Confirm the folder and check that your file is saved in the specificfolder before logging off. Organizers will not be responsible for anylost file.
e) The images needed for the slide will be provided in the folder namedPower Point Presentation created on the desktop. Choose theappropriate images and backgrounds MS Power Point 2007 versionwill be provided in the computer.
f) No CD or pen drive is permitted, and inernet shall not be used.

2. Poster Designing – (Time allowed : 2 hrs.)
a) There should be one Logo or Emblem created by the participantbased on theme given.
b) The poster design should be of commercial nature.
c) Words or text not compulsory while designing, but if wordings areused, it should be relevant to the theme.
d) The participants can use any media for designing (water colour,poster colour, fabric colour, crayons or colour pencil can be used)
e) Cutting and pasting pictures not allowed. The design should be purelydone by the participants themselves.
f) Size of the design will be based on the paper distributed at the timeof competition.
g) Only paper will be provided at the time of competition, all othermaterials necessary for the designing should be brought by theparticipants (A3 Size Papper). Theme will be announced by thejudges.
3. Digital Painting – (Time allowed : 30 mts.)
a) Image size in MS Paint should not exceed as given below. *Width =10 inches, Height = 7 inches, Resolution – 102x81 dots per inches.
b) No external images should be used. The images should be createdby the participants on the spot.
c) The file should be saved in JPEG file format. The file should besaved in the folder named Digital Painting created on the desktop.
d) The file name should be compulsorily participant’s chest number. Allother file name will be considered as invalid entry.
e) Confirm the folder and check that your file is saved in the specificfolder before logging off. Organizers will not be responsible for anylost file.
f) Text can be used to specify the theme, but the participants name orother details should not be mentioned on the images created.
g) Theme will be announced by the judges.

materials necessary for the designing should be brought by theparticipants.
e) Theme will be announced by the judges.
5. Anchoring – (Time 7 minutes)
To promote the Presentation Skill of students, ‘anchoring’ is introducedin the new generation items for CBSE School Kalotsav. The details ofthe competition is given below.

Time limit : 7 minutes
Mode of conduct : A theme will be given one hour beforethe competition.
General guide lines
Perform with ease in naturality behind a microphone.
The subject matter will be based on any event which should beanchored completely. (Eg: Award meet, Film Show etc.)
The participant should be able to speak continuously on the giventheme. There should be no gap in between.
Collar mike or cordless mike will be provided. The participant can utilize the entire stage if necessary. Presentation should be entirely in English and within the time limit. Use your facial expressions correctly.

Modulate your voice appropriately. Portray your personality at its best. Theme will be given one hour before the competition. Dress to impress – in the style and colour which suit you. No vulgarity
in dress code allowed. Make up can be used Get your messages across in a simple/media friendly manner.
Western Music concert
1. Songs & Instruments can be of any pure western genre. No fusionallowed.
2. Each team shall have maximum of 8 people in which 3 should besingers.
3. The members of the orchestra can also provide vocal support.
4. A total of 15 minutes is allocated to each team to perform.
5. All the instruments will have to be brought by the participating team.
6. Keyboard used should be played live. No earlier sequencing, feedingallowed.
7. Use of floppy disk, memory card not allowed.
8. A total of 6 microphones & 4 instrument ports will be provided.
9. Common group item No. category and no male-female separation.
10. One Key Board and One drum set only, can be used and will beprovided by the organizers on the stage, which will be common forall.
One Act Play (English) – (Time allowed : 15 mts.)a) The play shall be based on any theme.
b) The play should not exceed 15 mts.
c) No major backdrops (stage settings) allowed but the props thatcannot be avoided for the character is allowed. (eg. When you depicta place scene, no screen backdrops of the palace is needed but theprops like crown, sword of the king can be used)
d) Sound effects (only extra music effects) appropriate for the scene isallowed but the dialogue should be presented live. (no recording

allowed for the dialogue.) Use of key board for background music isallowed.
e) No light effects allowed for the play.
f) Number of characters in the play should not exceed 10 persons. 3persons are allowed for stage preparation. 5 mts, time is allowed forstage preparation.
g) Prior settings on the stage will not be permitted.
h) Improvisation of any classics like shakesperean dramas into oneact play is permessible.
Quiz
District Quiz programme shall be intergraded with District Kalotsav, Thefollowing rules shall be observed in the conduct of it.
Eligibility
Category III and Category IV students are eligible to compete.
Participants
A Team, will comprise of two members. Each Sahodaya will sponsorseparate team for Category III and Category IV. Students belonging toone category cannot compete in another category.
Selection
There will be a preliminary round with a written quiz. Best five teamselected from the written round will enter into the final round.
Final
Quiz master shall decide the rules for the final round. However the finalwill include audio-visual rounds with a variety of subjects and topics.

ART
Drawing, Painting and Cartoon.
The paper or canvas required shall be provided to the participants. Thetheme of the topic shall be given by the judges at the venue. The timeallowed shall be 2 hrs. The participants shall bring materials like pen,pencil, colours, etc. (Size of Paper provided will be A3 Size.
Value points :
Drawing
Proportion-shading-neatness-imagination and beauty of the strokes.
Painting
Ability in doing portraits and scenery-light and shade, imaginationperception.
Cartoon
Clarity of the theme-sense of humor-uniqueness-beauty of the strokes.
LITERARY ITEMS
Essay writing, Story writing, Poetry writing, extempore, Elocution,Recitation. The paper for writing shall be provided at the venue. Othermaterials shall be brought by the competitors. The topics for elocutionshall be announced i n advance and the topics for other items shall beannounced at the venue.

SECTION III
The Appeal Committee shall consist of the following members1. General Convener2. President of Sahodaya3. Secretary of Sahodaya
i) Appeals on genuine grounds shall be entertained, if submitted bythe participant within one (1) hour of the announcement of result.The appeal shall be submitted along with an appeal fee of Rs. 2000to the appeal committee. Appeal shall be filed only by the Principalof the concerned school or the Team manager. In the case of StateKalotsav the appeal shall be duly counter signed by the concernedSahodaya head/ official delegate.
ii) The appeal committee shall have the right to accept or reject anappeal after scrutiny. The decision of the appeal committee shall befinal and binding.
iii) The appeal fee (ie. Rs. 2000) shall be forfeited, if the complaint isrejected by the appeal committee.
SECTION IV
Food & Accomodation
1. Food and refreshments shall be arranged at the venue for theparticipants escorts and the officials. Food coupons at the rate fixedby the food committee shall be purchased by the team in advance.
2. Classroom accommodation shall be provided to the participants.
