encouraging as many of you as possible
to attend, and support it you did. The
Kallangur Committee Hall was packed
to its capacity with members, family
and friends – there were over 200 peo-
ple in attendance. The night was the
brainchild of Melanie Parker, who
played host for the evening as well. She
put so much effort into the preparations
leading up to the event that it went off
brilliantly. She managed to raise over
$5,500 of much- needed funds. What a
supreme result for all her work! Con-
gratulations Mel, we all had a fantastic
night and thank you for having such a
warm and loving heart. I have to also
thank all her helpers, unfortunately (or
fortunately) far too many to mention
here. From the sponsors of prizes, to
the people helping in the kitchen and
every single one of you that helped in
some way, thank you all.
On the training side of things we held a
Black Belt camp at The Log Cabin in
the hinterland of the Gold Coast, where
we have our next all ranks training
camp booked. What an awesome week-
end we had, with such a high level of
enthusiasm from all those that were
there. We covered patterns, sparring,
fitness sessions and self-defence to
name just a couple of the sessions. Be-
ing a Black Belt weekend we pushed
ourselves exceptionally hard and I was
very pleased to see people pushing
100% at every workout. Even the high
Welcome once again to Breaking
Ground, the winter edition. It’s hard to
believe that we are halfway through the
training calendar already as we have
done so much already this year. So I
will begin by recapping what we have
achieved since the last newsletter and
where we are headed for the rest of the
year.
We spoke at length previously about a
charity event we had planned to raise
money for the Leukaemia Foundation
intensity session I put on to try and
break everyone was well received and
enjoyed (even if they couldn’t move
afterwards). Well done to all that were
there – I hope to see you all train that
hard at the next camp in early Novem-
ber.
We held Round 1 of our tournament
series at Virginia State School, hosted
by the Banyo Club. It was another great
day from all those that competed, with
over 70 members competing to make it
one of our most successful tournaments
to date. So many great performances
and such good camaraderie made it a
wonderful event to be involved with.
The really pleasing part was the fact the
Banyo took out the top points for the
day, showing Kallangur and Redcliffe
there is a new club looking to take out
the big trophy for best club of the year.
Well done Tony and all in the Banyo
team – this club has really come of age
with such strength and depth in its
members. I hope to see the same spirit
of competition at the next one. On the
down side, the days leading up to this
had been marred by a huge rain event
which prevented our Bribie Club from
even getting to the competition. We
hope to see all those Bribie members at
the next one. We have also had some
members (myself included) compete in
the AMAC tournament series with
great results (except Jason Parker

second placing in his division). In
March we had Ebony Eayrs get multi-
ple places including a 1st place, Coban
Parker placing 4th in his first ever
AMAC completion, Jason Parker win-
ning in point sparring, Brett Parker get-
ting a 1st and two 2nd places and Joe
Sandona placing 1st in BB patterns, a
3rd and a 4th in the sparring divisions.
In late May at the second round, Ebony
Eayrs took out two 1st places and a 2nd
in sparring, Jason Parker 1st place in
sparring, and the old boy (me) took out
two 1st places in sparring and a 2nd in
patterns. I must say that as my first
competition in over 15 years that I real-
ly enjoyed the challenge of competing
and pushing myself outside my regular
training. I encourage any one that is
interested to discuss the AMAC com-
petition with their instructor and give it
a go. If you place in the third round you
will qualify for the QLD championship,
if you’re successful there you then
qualify for the Australian champion-
ship in Melbourne. I plan on giving it
another crack at the QLD event so I
hope a few of you might join me to
show the martial arts community what
we can do with lot more of us present.
To keep you all up-to-date with my 6th
Dan Grading, it has had a slight date
change due to other commitments and
will now be held two weeks earlier than
first announced, on Friday the 10th of
July at Kruger Hall. I feel my fitness
level is on target; all my additional
training seems to be paying off with my
patterns. I look forward to as many of
you attending as possible. It’s ulti-
mately more a display of ability and
style because all gradings after 4th Dan
are honorary, as 4th Dan represents a
Master in our system. With my moving
up in the club, it will make room for
Jason, Brett, Joe, Rob, Tony, Jacinta
and a host of others to start preparing
for their next promotions, allowing for
our organisation to continue to grow
and excel. No pressure on you guys,
but I am doing this hard work for all of
you, so heads down and work even
harder now.
After my grading I am having a well-
earned holiday in Japan. I cannot wait
to see and experience this country. My
partner and I have been practicing Japa-
nese phrases, learning a lot about the
customs and culture before we go and
getting our karaoke songs polished up
ready to rock/horrify the Japanese peo-
ple. It is going to be a life experience
that I will share with you in the next
newsletter.
There is still plenty more to come this
year, with another two rounds in our
tournament series, another all rank
training camp and discussions are un-
derway for our hugely popular social
event of the year. It may possibly be
another fancy dress party with details
coming your way soon.
Until then remember to train hard, kick
high and keep striving for perfection.
A word from the CHIEF INSTRUCTOR
news That brings me to my next point of congratulations,
and that goes to Brandon Kahl, Since getting his
Black Belt last year, Brandon has really stepped up
to the plate and has been helping out in the junior
class in 2015. Despite also starting a full time ap-
prenticeship he still finds the time and motivation to
come to class early and help me out.
Not only does he have a natural gift
at instructing, but his ability and
technique has also improved as a
result. Thanks Brandon, everyone’s
TKD experience is being enriched
with your presence. Keep up the
good work.
I would also like to finish by thank-
ing all of the junior students for their consistent
attendance and focus over the last couple of months,
we have been training very hard in preparation for
this grading and I’m sure you will all be promoted at
the grading. Good Luck and keep it up

gur training hard for their Black Belt promotions this
year. Although at time of writing this article it’s not
yet confirmed who will be grading in June or De-
cember, Craig, Matthew, Brandon, Amielle, Daniel,
Kara, and Zac have been training hard and really
putting in good focus in class, it’s
very pleasing as your instructor to
see after so many years, you all still
putting in your best efforts, good
luck to you all.
With a high proportion of higher
grades at the Kallangur club, I do
encourage any students, particularly
the higher grades and Black Belts
from the other clubs wishing to put in extra training
to come to Kallangur and push yourself to the next
level. It’s important even as a Black Belt to set your-
self goals with the next level of your training, wheth-
er that be focusing on improving your technique or
helping out in class.
Firstly I would like to thank the students who com-
peted in the first round of the tournament series and
helped the Kallangur Club off to a solid start. Well
done to Banyo for getting out to an early lead. The
Kallangur club could have collected many more
points on the day if more of our lower grade students
competed. I encourage you all to do so in the next
round. No matter what your experience, is there is a
division for you and lots of fun to be had. It’s also
good to test yourself against other students who you
don’t train with week in, week out. I find it really
helps with getting the best out of you. They are a
great fun day with medals and trophies up for grabs.
I hope to see you all there next round.
I would like everyone to join me in offering their
well wishes to the 7 Black Tip students from Kallan-

tive from the Leukaemia Foundation. There are a few in
IMT quietly and bravely rising to the challenges that life
and ill-health often presents. We support each other with-
out hesitation that is indicative of IMT transcending the
mere martial arts organisation.
Just know that the Griffith family wish to express their
heartfelt gratitude for all those involved in organising and
running this wonderful event, and undoubtedly the love and
sincere caring that underpinned it.
Without the support of the IMT family during what has
been one of the toughest of journeys, I could not imagine
how we would have coped.
With deepest, heartfelt gratitude.

ANZAC Day 2015 was memorable for many reasons, par-
ticularly my family and the family that is IMT. On such a
solemn day, some amazing people from IMT worked so
hard to hold a Trivia Night in aid of the Leukaemia Foun-
dation. This organisation, which receives no government
funding, has stood firmly by one of our instructors, Mi-
chael and the very long and arduous cancer battle that he
has bravely endured and continuing to fight with the warri-
or spirit we expect of our black belts and all those on the
black belt journey.
Alongside Michael and his family, have been many incred-
ibly special people in IMT who know the true meaning of
the fighting spirit. One most special of people, Melanie
Parker and her wonderful helpers, hosted a great night of
fun, of trivia, of cheating to a greatly packed house. Over
$5500 was raised and gratefully accepted by a representa-

I hope to see you all at the grading, train
hard and keep your hands up.
I have been instructing for 3 months now
and the commitment from the students has
been good, with their eagerness to impress
and with their technique. It is very satisfy-
ing to watch them progress into little mar-
tial artists. We are having a great time
training at the Deception Bay PCYC, the
facilities are good and morale is high.
Congratulations to Mark Stringer for win-
ning our first medal for Deception Bay at
the tournament. He went well considering
he only had 2 nights training before the
tournament. I hope to see more students
from class be involved in the next one.
Congratulation to the 3 white belts promot-

this accolade in such a public form such as the

Bribie wishes to extend their best to all those
grading and preparing for a grading in the near
future. We also wish Peter Cameron all the
very best for his very important 6th Dan grad-
ing. Pete, you are an inspiration to us all and all
of us in IMT are very blessed to have you as
our Chief Instructor.
Greetings from our own little paradise, Bribie.
We’ve had a relatively quiet term of training
hard in the cooler weather and preparing a cou-
ple of students for their upcoming gradings. I
hope that they know that both Mike and I are
always behind them every step of the way in
their journey to Black Belt and beyond.
Whilst I love to brag about how hard our stu-
dents train, it’s important to acknowledge and
thank those parents in the Bribie club who sup-
port their young martial artists. Whilst I know
that all clubs have their supportive crew of
parents, I am one very lucky instructor to have
a most supportive band of parents who encour-
age and support both their young ones but also
the club as a whole. They’ve been so very un-
derstanding on the occasions when I’ve had to
cancel a training session due to an emergency.
They have supported us through these years
and words are insufficient to express how grate-
ful both Mike and I are for this support. Thank
you to our wonderful Bribie parents.

risk of embarrassing her, Bribie’s first

Hello and welcome from the Bracken Ridge club.
The Bald Hills club is officially becoming the
Bracken Ridge club as of the 1st of July when we
move into our new hall at Norris Road State School.
Class times will continue to run at the same time
from 4:30pm to 5:30pm every Monday and
Wednesday. The Bald Hills club is anxiously look-
ing forward to the move into a much larger and
modern training hall. With improved flooring and
extra space to spread out and practice, we will be
able to get even more out of our training. The new
hall is also where we are hosting Round 2 of the
amazing IMTKD tournament series. We look for-
ward to seeing you all there!
One of the best parts of training in Tae Kwon Do is
making use of a wide variety of dynamic kicking
there are other ways to increase the number of dif-
ferent techniques you can throw. For example a
simple front kick can be thrown in different ways by
executing it from different ranges (forward or rear
leg), executing it at different heights, or adding a
step, jump or flying motion. You can double that
again by doing the same on your other leg. That's a
lot of variations to practice just for front kick. Now
think about all the other techniques you know.
Don't forget to also try adding variation and more
advanced techniques into your hand combinations.
You can also practice using hammer fists, spear
hands, knuckle strikes, bear claws or ridge hands.
The next time you instructor tells you to practice set
sparring, remember to try and use some of these
variations instead of just performing the same com-
bination every time over and over again. Your in-
structor will also enjoy seeing you practice some-
thing different as it isn't fun to watch the same com-
bination over and over again either.
Keep mastering the art.
techniques. Many students however fall into a habit
of only using the basic kicks they learnt as white
bests such as front kick, side kick and turning kick.
Don't forget that there are many advanced kicks that
should be used in your repertoire of techniques and
it expands vastly as you progress through the ranks.
It is important to practice as many of these different
kicks as possible every chance you get. The more
you practice them, the easier they will get, and
eventually they will become second nature to you so
you can perform them without thinking. Just like
executing a turning kick. This will make you a bet-
ter fighter, as when the time comes, you can use a
more specialized technique which is more ideal for
a certain situation without having to think about it.
But maybe even more importantly than that, it will
make Tae Kwon Do a lot more fun and enjoyable as
you will have more variety in what you do.
Some advanced kicks you might like to practice
include, spin kicks, axe kick, twist kick, whip kick,
shudder kicks, jump spin kicks, reverse turning
kick. If you haven't learnt these yet, don't forget

Starting in this issue of IMT’s Breaking Ground Newsletter, there will be a new section called “Get to
know your Black Belts”. It doesn't seem that long ago that I was completely scared and intimidated by the
black belts, and at times to the point of being afraid to approach them. I’m sure I wasn’t the first to feel
this way, and I won’t be the last. So I thought it might be a good idea for all the black belts to put down
on paper a few key points about themselves, to show that black belts are just like everyone else......that
they all started at the bottom, I'm sure had some type of struggles along the way, and they also have a life
outside TKD. The same questions have been asked of all black belts, and I’ve been entertained and in-
spired by their responses. As you will see, all of the black belts took up TKD at varying ages, all have
different strengths and weaknesses, but they all have a love for it that runs deeper than just a sport. So, sit
back, relax, and enjoy getting to know your black belts a little better…..

GET TO KNOW YOUR BLACK BELTS
Peter Cameron
How old were you when you
started TKD?: 12 years old
How long have you been
doing TKD?: 39 years
What age did you attain the
rank of black belt?: 17 years
Why did you start TKD?: Friends were doing karate, so I tried it
but didn't like it because the instructor was German but spoke in
Japanese and I couldn't understand him. TKD opened in my town
and fell in love with the dynamic style and amazing kicks, plus I
was able to kick my friends doing karate around very easily.
Why are you still doing TKD?: I just never gave up, its now part
of who I am as a person. I enjoy the reward of seeing people get so
much out of training and experiencing what IMT has to offer.
Have you ever had any “bumps” in your TKD journey?: I had
a few injuries that slowed me down for a while, but none bad
enough to make me ever want to stop.
Which part of TKD did you struggle with the most along the
way & why?: I was a good kicker with great flexibility but
my punching and hand work took a long time to develop. I used to
like standing and letting my legs do all the work, hardly using my
hands. I slowly balanced up my use between the hands and feet,
but it required a lot of focus on punching to get them right.
What do you enjoy most about TKD?: Seeing people enjoying it
as much as me and the reaction I see in people for achieving thing
they never thought they could do.
What is your occupation?: Retail salesperson
Apart from TKD, what do you like to do in your spare time?: Renovate our house, play with our dogs, sing badly at karaoke,
ride roller-coasters and travel.
What other sports have you done in your life?: I used to play
basketball (no surprise as I was tall ), and am now really enjoying
gym workouts. I have worked hard at changing my body shape as
I used to be a very skinny kid.
Tell us one thing we probably don’t know about you: I am very
good at the computer game "Plants vs Zombies 2". I particularly
like the crazy noises it makes.
Anything else you’d like to share? I hope the students make
TKD part of their lives and get the same enjoyment and
health benefits for their whole lives as I have. Remember that you
get out of life what you put in, or in Trekkie speak, "Live long and
prosper".
Brett Parker
How old were you when you
started TKD?: 6
How long have you been
doing TKD?: 28 years
What age did you attain the
rank of black belt?: 11
Why did you start TKD?: My Dad started me to help keep
my temper under control and to learn respect and discipline
Why are you still doing TKD?: Everyone needs a vice in
life – TKD is a way of escaping and being active and around a
lot of awesome people, also I love instructing and sharing the
knowledge I have gained over the years, not giving back to
something that has given me so much is a bit selfish I think.
Have you ever had any “bumps” in your TKD journey?: Too many to mention, although I have probably been respon-
sible for dishing out more now than I have received
Which part of TKD did you struggle with the most along
the way & why?: Patterns as a child, it took a long time for
these to make sense, I see a lot of the same struggles with my
students as I had, and that helps me teach them better.
What do you enjoy most about TKD?: Uh Duh! Kicking
people in the face
What is your occupation?: I work as a Group Purchasing
and Logistics Supervisor for the largest laboratory group in
the world
Apart from TKD, what do you like to do in your spare
time?: Spending time with family and friends, camping,
4WDing, Football (the round ball type) and going to music
concerts / festivals
What other sports have you done in your life?: Football
(Soccer)
Tell us one thing we probably don’t know about you: I
lived overseas for a couple of years in my early twenties, it
was a great time and I missed TKD so much, I looked for
something to train in to stay active but to be honest nothing
was as good as our TKD, and I never saw any point in mov-
ing backwards. Instead I just travelled and partied a lot.
Anything else you’d like to share?: TKD has helped me in
other aspects of my life I never thought it would, I can attrib-
ute a lot of what I have achieved and a lot of positive aspects
of my personality to TKD, I think many people under-
estimate how much positive influence it can have on your life.

Welcome to another edition of Burpengary to
Murrumba Downs. Hard to believe 2015 is ½
over. Before you know it the Xmas decorations
will be up and we will be wondering where 2015
went.
I wanted to talk about a sickness that seems to
have struck down several of my students from
both classes. It is a horrible illness that affects
your technique and your ability to remember
your patterns. I refer to it as the BLUE BELT
BLUES.
It seems that once you reach Blue Belt you start
doing kicks pointing your toes, incorrect knee
load for kicks, no pivoting when executing a
side kick, poor loading for blocking and all of a
“Blue Belt Blues”, just listen to that scary voice
in your head.
Murrumba has had an influx of 6 new students
thanks to an advertising sign the school allowed
me to put up. Unfortunately it has only been a
few weeks so they are not ready for the current
grading.
Burpengary lost a few so we are very small at
the moment but hopefully flyers in the area may
help and I will be seeing if there are any school
fetes in the area come Spring. Alternatively if
you have friends and family in the area tell them
about us.
Good luck for those students attempting their
Black Belt today. Train hard and will see you at
the next TKD event.
sudden you can’t remember your patterns.
Some of it comes from not doing basics but most
of it just comes down to not practicing OR when
you are practicing just going through the mo-
tions. It is completely different practicing in
class and home, because at home you don’t have
an instructor sitting beside you correcting that
bad stance or poor technique.
I know that when I practice my patterns there is
a loud scary voice in my head – typically it
sounds like Jason or Brett – that tells me when I
have a bad stance or a poor technique. You have
to listen to that voice and try harder. You may
think Blue Belt (4th grade) is ½ way to your
Black Belt, so you start to slacken off. As far as
time goes Blue Belt is only 1/3 of the path to
your Black Belt.
But with time and practice anyone can beat the

What an incredible start to 2015 for Banyo. We
have been going from strength to strength since the
last newsletter. Not only have we seen a huge
influx of new students, but for the first time in
many years, Banyo took out first place in tourna-
ment 1 of 2015….on home turf. This was such a
sweet victory, and not only did we win the day, but
we also raised a good sum of money to help pur-
chase some new focus mitts and strike shields and
other much needed equipment. We
are very thankful to those that came
along to our tournament, considering
it was the morning after the huge
rain event that saw most of Brisbane
City and its surrounds at a standstill
only 12hrs earlier.
Since our tournament, we’ve wel-
comed many new white belts to our
ranks. Christian, Archer, Cherry, Angel, Yas,
Haileigh, Kellyn & Annie, have all decided to
come along and be part of the IMTKD family,
based at Banyo. Due to the increasing number of
students at Banyo over the last couple of months, I
attend got to witness some of my extreme ball
skills. These will be memories that will be passed
on to future generations. The stuff legends are
made of. Due to my humbleness, for any more info
on this feat, you will need to talk to Jaz.
With grading just around the corner, also followed
by tournament 2, Banyo has been busy working on
basics and patterns, and will hopefully also get a
team demonstration or 2 on the go soon. Our plan
this year is to bring home the perpetual trophy for
Champion Club at the end of the year, and with
numbers constantly on the incline, it is a goal with-
in reach. Watch this space…….
Good luck to all those grading today. Work hard,
show us what you’ve got and reap the rewards of
your training.
have had to make the decision to split class back in
to Junior & Senior classes again. Although I was a
little tentative at first to go down this road, due to
the camaraderie and support between all students
at Banyo, it allows myself and my assistants, to
give all students the attention they deserve, which
could not be done with 30+ students in 1 class in
such a small hall. The result has been all students
are a lot more focused on their training and I am a
lot less stressed. I may even start
to grow some hair back.
It’s so incredible seeing the enthu-
siasm of the “new” students
mixed in with the determination
and dedication of the “older”
students, some of which occasion-
ally come along early to help out
at the “Junior” class, and further
their own training. This is helping them learn good
teaching skills as well as improving their own
techniques and confidence.
On a serious note, we had a class B.B.Q. at the
local park a few weeks back and all those lucky to

Banyo breakers

TOURNAMENT ROUND 1
It was a big turnout for the first round of the IMT tournament
series for 2015, with over 70 competitors taking the floor. It
could have been more, but with terrible flooding the night
before, some people were still cut off and unable to make the
journey to Virginia State School, the host venue for the
Banyo club.
The newest club in the IMT family made their 1st appearance
this year. Mark Stringer from the Deception Bay club earned
a 3rd place in the 10-5 Senior Male sparring division. I’m
sure his result will inspire the other students at the club for
the rest of the year and we look forward to seeing them get
involved.
It was the home club, Banyo with the biggest turnout of students for round 1 and with the home turf advantage, they were going
to be tough to beat. Last years champions Redcliffe were still looking strong, and after the patterns divisions had finished, both
clubs were tied on 14 points each, with the surprise packet of the Bald Hills team in 3rd place on 8 points. There were strong
patterns from all competitors and with most divisions fielding around 7 competitors, placing in the top 3 would require their
very best.
For most of the competitors in the first two divisions of the day, it was their first experience of competing in a tournament. The
junior aged students were a bit nervous in the beginning, but all did great patterns with good focus and control. The nerves
were present in the senior aged students as well, but were able to channel them into energy to do their patterns strongly. Nerves
are something you always have to deal with at various times and to different degrees. The more you learn to deal with them,
the less of an affect they will have on your performance.
The more seasoned divisions were good examples of this, the strength and focus was high, and it had to be. Especially in the
4th - 2nd Junior division, which had 12 competitors! They all performed so well, it was so close that there was a tie-break to
decide the final 3. There was another tie-break in the 1st - Black Belt Junior, with Anthony and Amielle coming up against
each other for the 2nd tournament in a row to decide the final placing's. Very close results!
After the patterns were concluded, we were treated to a very special performance of a 2nd Degree Black Belt pattern by the
Chief Instructor. It was great to see the progression of patterns from the beginners to the most experienced. Mr Cameron
topped off a great morning of patterns and provided us all with much inspiration and aspiration for our progression in tae kwon
do.
After lunch, the Black Belts kicked off the sparring divisions. It was great for everyone to watch the high intensity sparring that
they produce and to hopefully inspire each competitor to find something extra when they stepped into the ring. The pee wee
division is always wonderful to watch, Liam De Zwaan from Ormeau did well against Lucie and Marco from Bald Hills. Liam
won his first fight against Marco in a very spirited performance against the blue belt, but Marco won their 2nd fight which end-
ed in Liam finishing in 3rd place. What a great effort at his first tournament.
The action kept intensifying as the divisions rolled on. Many more upset victories and losses happened throughout the day.
Many competitors fought hard to reach finals, often having several fights in a row to get there. The placing were fairly well
distributed throughout the competing clubs, highlighting the even standard of each competitor. By the end of the sparring, Or-
meau, Banyo and Redcliffe had three first placing's each. But Banyo made several multiple placing's in the top 3, giving them a
healthy 22 points from the sparring. This was enough for them to finish in top spot after round 1 with a total of 36 points. Hav-
ing a good lead after round 1 is a good step to obtaining the perpetual club trophy. I’m sure all of the clubs will be just as will-
ing to reign them in, as they will be to hold onto their lead.
As always, the results from the tournament are usually posted on our website within a few days for you to look at. Keep an eye
on our facebook page for updates and photos from the day. The next round is at Bracken Ridge on the 25th of July and we look
forward to another great day of competition.

4th Degree Black Belt
Welcome to the middle of the year.
Hopefully you are on your way to
achieving your goals in TKD and are
training very hard in class. The Red-
cliffe club has been going well, the
junior numbers are good but need to be
more consistent. I encourage you all to
be at every lesson to get the most out of
your training. The level of training you receive with
higher attendance is always more fun and challenging.
When you miss lessons, you are then always playing
catch-up to keep yourself on top of the basics. We
have a good number of students grading and I am very
pleased with the standard at the club. Anthony
Sgualdino has been showing good skills as an assistant
your level.
10th - 7th grade: Don’t cross your feet, always
lead with the same leg as the direction you move.
Stay on the balls of your feet and imagine you
have springs in your legs for fast explosive
movement.
6th - 3rd grade: Don’t move backwards. Al-
ways look to move at a sideways angle, never
straight. Don’t stay at the same range or angle
for too long, so use switches and fast reactions to
your opponents movements in order to keep them
guessing as to where you are going.
2nd and Beyond: Subtlety is key. Don’t make
your movement obvious or your opponent will
see it and nullify it. Combine slight shifts in
your weight to keep just out of range and change
the speed of your footwork to keep the timing
fluid and unpredictable.
instructor, especially with me being out of action for a
little while with a broken toe. Thanks Anthony! Best
of luck for the 2nd half of the year with more gradings
and tournaments to come. Keep training hard.
Training Tips:
Footwork:
If you’re not there, you cant get hit
and if you don’t create angles, all
you’ll hit are arms and elbows.
Footwork is how you position your-
self in defence and attack. Without
it, you are merely a target, or predictable in attack.
Basic footwork will only get you so far, incorrect
footwork will limit your ability. To understand how
important it is to you requires understanding of the
basics and a desire to be creative and unpredictable.
There are different levels of understanding we expect
of different ranks so here are a few tips to help you at
“Subtlety is key.
Don’t make your
movement obvious or
your opponent will
see it...”
Redcliffe review
Ormeau By Troy Johnson
2nd Degree Black Belt report ence and we learnt some stick fighting and
ground defence that can be added to our
training! Unfortunately this fell on the same
day as the all rank training session at Mur-
rumba Downs, so no one else from IMT
was able to attend. However keep up to date
with Fighters Fitness through our website
or even ask your instructors to know when
more of these awesome opportunities occur,
as they happen frequently, and are always a
great and fun way to expand your
knowledge! The Ormeau club wishes eve-
ryone grading the best wishes, be confident
and go hard!
ALL took home medals. As well we had
Amber, Zoe, Devon, Aaron and Leana take
home medals as well. From the small group
of Ormeau we have managed
to place 5th overall! Look out
Banyo club! We’re coming up
behind you! Most recently we
had our all rank session for
June conducted at our Ormeau
Branch. Can I just say how
wonderful it was to have such high attend-
ance rates from the entire club! It was a
great session, filled with much fun! On
23rd of May, myself and Leana Johnson
attended a Total Fighting seminar hosted at
Fighters Fitness and conducted by Master
Roberto Chirrizi. This was a great experi-
Welcome to another update
from the Ormeau crew! I
would like to start by welcom-
ing our new students, Eliza-
beth, Leam and Lachlan, I
wish you all the best in your
journey through martial arts. I would also
like to praise everyone for their efforts in
the first tournament, it was great to see so
many people attend and participate. Or-
meau students, Jordan, Leam, Elizabeth and
Blayne all entered for the first time, and
