She was born in the Rocky mountains and was also a Shoshone Indian. Her name was Sacagawea .As a Shoshone Indian girl she knew alot about wildlife. When she was 10 winters old she was captured and sold to a French- Canadian fur trapper. She was only 18 when she got married to the fur trapper then she had Pomp the baby boy. The man joined the corps and that's how she became part of the expedition.

Sacagawea was very important to the corps. She knew what foods were poisonous , she was a good translator , and she helped get goods so they could trade for horses.

Her brother was the chief of a Shoshone Indian Band. So she saw him once or twice . Nobody knows for sure when she was born, some people say 1789-1849. The corps did not want to lose her. She traveled the expedition with Pomp on her back. She was so amazing she had her face on a coin!
