WHY CHANGE?

Maximize Public Relations Meaningful recognition of deserving

employees and quality facilities Increase membership participation:

Reduce barriers to entering competition Simplify the application process Make the Judging Process more objective

Make it FUN for facilities to participate – not added burden

Make the Awards Banquet an exciting, energetic, anticipated, not-to-be missed event of the year!

KHCF Scholarships Move to Spring 2015. No impact on when recipients receive monetary award.

Innovation in Care Move to Spring 2015. Expand to 3 to 5 facilities, each with a breakout session to share in-depth concepts with other facilities.

PAC Awards Move to Spring 2015. Better align with legislative session and able to calculate contributions on calendar year basis.

Government Award Move to Spring to better align with legislative session. More timely recognition for legislators. 4

Volunteers of the Year Adult Youth Group

Combine 3 separate volunteer categories under one header, “Volunteer of the Year”. Nominees can include adult, youth, and group with up to 5 winners chosen representing any combination of those three categories. Award presentation to include photos, video, and/or testimony.

Better Life Awards Vendor Education Corporate Senior Advocate Family

All Better Life categories will be combined under one header, “Better Life Award”. Nominations can be made in any of those areas but scoring threshold will be established and PR Committee determines winner.

Create new “Public Relations Award” to include the following: Newsletter (electronic or

Scoring threshold will be established and PR Committee determines winner(s).

All 4 categories will remain the same except for elimination of districts. Maximum of 5 finalists in each category for Medical Director, Director of Nursing, and Administrator. One winner will be chosen for Photo of the Year with all nominated pictures shown in slideshow at Banquet.

Professional Achievement Awards SRNA KMA PC Caregiver LPN RN Administrative Nurse Environmental Services Supportive Services Activities Social Services/Admissions Dietary Medical Services

Combine 12 awards into 3 categories: Nursing Care (RN, LPN, Admin. Nurse) Caregiving (SRNA, KMA, PC Caregiver) Supportive Care (Environmental,

Supportive, Activities, SS/Admissions, Dietary, Medical Services)

Create a “Top 10” finalist list for each category with a countdown at the Banquet in an exciting, upbeat, 3-podium format with winner’s pictures on screen as they receive award.

All entries judged resulting in 15 to 20 in each category. Second round of judging with creation of 8-member panel (Board members, PR committee, past winners, vendors, & KADONNA for Nursing Care) to finalize top 10 placement.

Professional Achievement Awards continued…

Each nominee must have worked 2 years in the nominating facility and 2 years in the category for which they are being nominated.

Facilities can nominate as many employees as they wish in each of the 3 categories, but each facility will only have 1 finalist on each list. For example ABC Facility can nominate 2 people in ‘Nursing Care’, 3 people in ‘Caregiving’, and 2 people in ‘Supportive Care’. At most, they could have 1 Top 10 Finalist in ‘Nursing Care’, 1 Top 10 Finalist in ‘Caregiving’, and 1 Top 10 finalist in ‘Supportive Care’.

The Professional Achievement Awards Celebration will be eliminated.

All entrants in all 3 categories would be recognized at the Awards Banquet on large screen and/or written program

Facility of the Year Eliminate Districts 2 Changes to Eligibility:

Remove Advancing Excellence requirement due to other more current requirements like Quality Initiatives

CMS 5-Star Rating: Require that the facility have a 4 or 5 star

rating at time of application submission. Must maintain at least a 3 star rating between application submission and Awards Banquet.

Revise the application: Streamline and simplify application Reduce number of testimonial letters

to 4 Remove Administrator and DON

resume requirement Add narrative question about

employee recognition and appreciation Add narrative question about a

program that enhances quality in the facility.

Facility of the Year continued…

Customer Satisfaction Survey Current requirement for facilities

entering competition to conduct a customer satisfaction survey.

Standardized survey will be used for families/residents at no cost to facilities entering the competition.

Survey developed and conducted in cooperation with Eastern Kentucky University and OzzCare, a company specializing in employee recognition and appreciation.

Added benefit for facilities entering FOY that they receive a free customer satisfaction survey.

The ‘Mystery Shop Call’ will no longer be used for FOY.

Facility of the Year continued…

Scoring, Judging, On-Site Visit All entering facilities will be scored on

the written entry and the customer satisfaction survey resulting in 4 or 5 finalists.

Each finalist will receive an on-site visit taking place during an announced five-day period. The exact day and time will not be made known to the facility finalist.

On-site visit schedule: 45 minute guided tour with administrator 30 minute group discussion with up to 10

people of administrator’s choosing 45 minutes unaccompanied time for judges

No parting gifts to judges should be given.

Scoring for Facility of the Year will be split equally between the Written Entry, Customer Satisfaction Survey, and On-Site Visit.

Videos for Facility of the Year Change format for the FOY

videos Filming will be done at separate time

than FOY judging KAHCF will work with each facility

finalist to capture a unique aspect such as:

Unique program they have developed Resident story Employees Volunteers Activities Community Events Family Involvement

Video can be used for facility’s own Public Relations, posted on website, etc..

Each video will be a unique story for that particular facility.
