Walter Bendix Schönflies Benjamin ( 1892 – 1940) was a German literary
critic, philosopher, social critic, translator, radio broadcaster and essayist.
Combining elements of German idealism and Romanticism, Historical Ma-
terialism and Jewish mysticism, Benjamin made enduring and influential
contributions to aesthetic theory and Western Marxism, and is associated
with the Frankfurt School.

DESIGN CONCEPT
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
The main concept of this house is protection. As cubes give me a
stable feeling, I tried to use them to form the basic shape of my
building which cubes in various sizes are arranged and combined
together to create interesting spaces. As a result, the form of the
building is designed to shape like a mother protecting her kids.
For the programme, the main body (pink cube) contains public
spaces including the living room and dining room, where other
cubes represent the private spaces including bedrooms and studio.

After several phases, we noticed that a good building needs to con-sider about the balance point between green and urban design.
We started from the social problem of Sham Shui Po. There are severe air pollution, and lack of leisure area for the elderly. Beside this there are also Subdivided Unit and Poor Hygiene.
We set the shopping mall facade with the green wall since it can provide different advantages such as Interior Temperature Regulation, Facade Protection and Ventilation.
Providing leisure area and cultural communication area for the elderly are key elements of our design. Futhermore, Sham Shui Po has its own characteristics, so we provide the cultural communication area in order to preserve this kind of culture.

Due to variety of reasons, the able group of the population tends to be
more active away from Chuen Wan; leaving the elderly, the young and
perhaps the unfit to stay behind, forming a gap in the district.
To bridge an vital age gap in the society - "Neighbourhood Rejuvenation"
"Rejuvenation of the missing link" the missing link
* here means the missing of the vital age group.
CONCEPT
PROGRAMME
Base on all the research done, we have concluded "three parts" of
development, they are:
· The Milk Bar (Social place for the youth)
· The Flea Market (bargain exchange for the elderly)
· The DIY Recycling Centre (a place for the value of old receive revaluation,redressed and introduce to the young)

One is standing and the other sitting, and they are placed among various objects, including
a red mask and staff, an allusion to Melpomene and Thalia, the Muses of tragedy and comedy.
At the front are the two Muses, dressed in classical clothing.
The Castello Estense, near which de Chirico lived, is in the background, rust-red and among
industrial buildings.
The statue on a pedestal in the background is Apollo, leader of the Muses.
The Disquieting Muses was painted during World War I, when De Chirico was in Ferrara.
