K9 Conditioning
Workshop
Companion Dogs
SEMINAR CONTENT
Every canine athlete, weekend hiker, running companion, or
couch potato will benefit from a regular strength, endur-
ance, and stretching routine.
In this hands on workshop, participants will be introduced to
directed strength training and body awareness exercises
with special focus on positioning of the body.
These exercises and techniques are specifically designed
to build core strength, improve balance, increase flexibility
and range of motion, build confidence, increase hind end
awareness, reduce the risk of injury and improve your dog’s
overall performance. The importance and benefits of warm
up and cool down exercise will also be discussed and dem-
onstrated.
Incorporating these exercises into your dog’s routine is
FUN and a great bonding experience. These exercises
can easily be done at home.
Weekend Warrior?
Only leash walks all week, then biking/jogging/hiking on the
weekend with your dog? Sure they enjoy it, but they don’t tell us
when they are tired or sore—they keep trying to keep up to us.
You wouldn’t start an exercise program without proper prepara-
tion and stretching—neither should they.
Proprioception (awareness of where the body is in space), core
strengthening and aerobic exercises are an often overlooked as-
pect of training the canine athlete and weekend warrior.
Keep your older dog limber and fit!
Old dogs CAN learn new tricks and many of these tricks will
help to strengthen, or maintain muscle mass as well as mentally
challenge your dog. A conditioning program will help your dog
gain or maintain muscle mass rather than lose it to inactivity and
age contributions.
Recover more quickly from illness or injuries
The core of the body is the originating center of all muscle move-
ments. A weak core creates a vulnerability to injury, likelihood of
pain in the lower back, poor balance and poor posture. Strength
training provides: Protection for the back offering a bracing effect with strong core
muscles
Stability as the trunk becomes stronger
Increases power in the center of gravity
Improves posture, balance and shape
Improves performance during exercise and sports activities
Makes the back less susceptible to pain and injuries

Workshop
Companion Dogs Sunday,
November 3rd
Sponsored By Testimonial Dr. Bianca Shaw, DVM Back on Track
Rehabilitation Center
Bobbie brings specific knowledge of the
needs of athletic dogs, as well as an under-
standing of the imperfections inherent in
each individual. She works with human-dog
teams to improve the bond and engender
deeper trust and a working relationship. I
have heard from many of my clients about
the fun they had, but also how they learned
more about core body strength. This, even
from owners of dogs with back issues
(when they took another dog to Bobbie),
when I have spent months, years even, on
core strength, but not to the extent, and
not with as challenging of exercises. Bob-
bie teaches the physical education aspect,
or sports training.
Her class is a wonderful introduction to
normal body mechanics. Technicians and
veterinarians get so little information on
how to develop and maintain “normal” and
yet we see young animals every day. My
job would be much easier if owners were
primed to think about appropriate body
mechanics and awareness with their pets’
activities. If I had the time, I would run a
course of preventative conditioning for
imperfect conformation to coincide with
Bobbie’s course.
