Just Festival On the Edge (JFOTE 2015) started life as a conversation over coffee between two community workers: Dawn Savidge from Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church and Matt Stone from the Swiss church. Working on the same patch, they decided to put on a series of events to celebrate great art and music, talk about important social justice issues, and get people thinking. Joining forces at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church and the Swiss Church in London they began to include other local churches: St Giles in the Fields and St George’s Bloomsbury. The idea started to grow.

It was at this stage that they met Katherine Newbigging and Raymond Baudon, who have worked to help produce the JFOTE 2015. Until January Katherine and Raymond had been the director and chairman of the Just Festival in Edinburgh. Just Festival, celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, is a well-established part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Its ethos is to celebrate diversity, promote awareness of social justice issues, and encourage dialogue. Dawn, Matt, Katherine and Raymond’s ideals and vision dovetailed.

So why On the Edge? JFOTE 2015 is located on the edge of so many places: the West End, Covent Garden and Bloomsbury. But more than that, the people Matt and Dawn meet and work with are on the edge of society, marginalised. They don't feel a part of the whole or valued. These are the people who have inspired much of the programme of JFOTE 2015.

The vision for this JFOTE 2015 is to make art, entertainment and social justice issues accessible for all people, not just those who can afford it or who are in the know. We hope that you will join us in celebrating what we do and what we are - on the edge.
