To all players, coaches, managers, family members and friends. As the daylight hours grow shorter and the weather colder, so the 2009/2010 cricket season comes to an end. This season has seen the club grow with our junior numbers increasing from 6 teams to 7 teams this season, fielding a team in each age group and 2 teams in the under 16’s. The Club has also continued with its In2cricket program this season. 3 of our junior teams made the Grand finals with our under 13’s winning their Grand final. All our junior teams gave 100% all season resulting in 4 teams making the semi finals. They were the 12’s, 13’s and both our 16’s, which unfortunately had to play each other. The 12’s, 13’s and 16 white all went through to their grand finals. The 12’s and 16’s both went down fighting in closely contested games. Our 13’s went one better and took out their grand final in fine style. Congratulations to all for a wonderful season. I would like to thank the coaches for this season. We have a great team whose efforts and dedication has been greatly appreciated by the players, parents and the committee.

Trophy Policy

Bligh Park Cricket Club has for a number of years by policy shared the three major trophies among the top three recipients. The three major trophies are:

• Point Score • Batting Average • Bowling Average

As often happens, a team has a certain special individual, who manages to achieve the best in all three categories. In recognition that cricket is a team sport, these trophies are shared, with no one person winning multiple of those awards. Simply the next best eligible player receives the specific reward. The policy exists for the Under 10’s through to and including the Under 14’s. The aggregate awards are omitted from this policy and are awarded to the actual winner. Bligh Park Cricket Club feels this is both fair to the team and to the award winners and emphasises BPCC’s team philosophy. The qualification of the awards are in line with the HDCA award policy, but with a modified (lower) cut-off factor for runs scored or wickets taken:

Applicable to all age-groups: • Must have played in more than half of the matches

Under 10’s: • Batting: Greater than 100 runs scored • Bowling: More than 8 wickets taken

Under 11’s to Under 16’s • Batting: Greater than 120 runs scored • Bowling: More than 10 wickets

* If no-one is eligible, then it is awarded in order of the highest wicket taker or scorer of runs.

UNDER 10’s SEASON 2009-10 TEAM REPORT This season was outstanding for the under 10’s. This was the first year the district implemented the new 8 player team format. I would like to congratulate all the team on playing great cricket! Thank you to all the parents, cricket can take up a lot of time. Your help, enthusiasm, encouragement and praise you give the kids are priceless. Many people say cricket is fifty percent a physiological game. When I watched this team believe in the impossible they turned the match around many times. Coaching is a privilege and I have been fortunate to do this for six years. Well done for all the players, see you all next season. Conner Liso “Mr Cricket” has played with enthusiasm and always a great smile. Conner is the team motivator always looking for the positive in all situations. He enjoys going out to bat and is very good fast bowler. In the field Conner is as fast as a greyhound and very sharp with catches. Well done Conner. Paul Adam Paul was selected to play the end of the season for U11’s an excellent achievement. He is always thinking about his game and loves a challenge. In the bowling attack Paul has an outstanding economy rate. He is relentless with line and length never giving the batsmen a sniff. With the bat Paul has an outstanding profile of shots. Great work Paul. Anna-Carin Monash Our only female player Anna-Carin is an inspiration for her perseverance and character. Especially with all those noisy boys on the team! Anna-Carin worked hard on her bowling and batting. With the help of Ben (from 5th grade) she practiced a lot in the backyard. Her Mum & Grandma were always at the game supporting the team. Excellent year Anna-Carin. Joseph Hoffman Joseph is the big hitting batsman of the team. With an unorthodox batting stance he stands and delivers the cricket ball to the boundary at regular intervals. Joseph is an excellent all round player, well deserving of the point score trophy this season. Congratulations Joseph. Declan Egan Declan has is our leading wicket taker for this season. With excellent repeatable accuracy his economy rate is very good. In the batting Declan built good partnerships and especially enjoyed batting with Lachlan. Well done Declan. James Everingham I would argue the best leg spin bowler in the district for U10’s this season. James’s ability to bamboozle on the batmen is outstanding. He has an excellent menu of delivers to choose from. James has really improved his batting, with excellent ability as an opener. At 7 years old, our youngest player and we are looking forward to next year James.

Callum Denning Callum is the quite achiever of the team. Always with a smile, Callum plays his cricket in a no fuss manner. Callum loves his bowling and batting, he also loved to have a turn at wicket keeping. Callum has an excellent calm approach to cricket which will do him well in future years. Good work Callum. Lachlan Burnell-Anderson Lachlan is always ready to play cricket. He loves to be involved always giving one hundred percent to the team. Lachlan has improved in all aspects of the game. Most of all his batting partnerships and running between the wickets was very good. Well done Lachlan. Hoani Holland Hoani has a great love of cricket. He works hard on all aspects of the game and has made excellent improvement. Hoani had excellent ability and strength when batting and punished the bowl many occasions. Look forward to watching your cricket for many years. Great work Hoani.

UNDER 11’s SEASON 2009-10 TEAM REPORT We had a great year in the U11s in season 2009-10. We finished 3rd out of 4 teams. We improved throughout the season but unfortunately there are no semi-finals in 4 team competitions so we didn’t get the opportunity to play in the finals and demonstrate our improvement. In our last game we beat the team that went on to win the grand-final which was a fantastic effort. Round 1 vs Pitt Town A very difficult first game against a team with a few exceptional players. Pitt Town made 217 and we struggled to make 91 in reply with only 8 batsmen due to sickness and other absences. Reece was the star with 30 not out. Round 2 vs North Richmond Blue Our first win of the season. We made 143 batting first with Reece (32no) and Mark (26no) the stars with the bat. In reply we bowled Northo Blue out for 134. The wickets and catches were shared around in a good team performance. Mark took the last wicket with 9 runs spare through a great catch by Harry. Round 3 vs North Richmond Gold Northo Gold made 172 batting first with Bethany (2 for 8) and Cameron (2 for 16) the stars with the ball In reply we made 136 in a solid batting performance. Major contributions were from Mark (30no), Cameron (20no) and Brayden (19no). Round 4 vs Pitt Town We bowled Pitt Town out for 205 and dismissed their 3 star batsmen for the first time in the season. Mark (3 for 4) and Jack (3 for 24) did the damage with the ball. In reply we made 7/165 which was fantastic effort, but unfortunately we ran out of overs. Stars with the bat were Cameron (20no) and with their first ever retirements Jedd (21no) and Harry (21no). Jacob also made his first run. Round 5 vs North Richmond Blue Northo Blue batted first and were bowled out for 118. Stars with the ball were Shannon (2 for 6), Cameron (2 for 7), Mark (2 for 9) and Jacob with his first ever wicket (1 for 16). Our batting order collapsed spectacularly so that we were 4 for 9 and then 8 for 54. Cameron (39no) and Reece (34) put on a 62 run partnership before Reece was dismissed by a freak catch and we lost by two runs.

Page 13: Junior Presentation Sunday 16th May - Bligh Park books...10 7 13 45 6.43 31 1 16 5 6 27.50 0 0 0 135 James Everingham 1 0 10 11 18 60 5.45 28 1 1 10 6 1 8.33 0 1 0 165 Joseph Hoffman

Round 6 vs North Richmond Gold Northo Gold made 155 batting first with Bethany (2 for 18) and Shannon (2 for 18) the star bowlers. In reply we batted magnificently to make 162 and win by 7 runs. Stars with the bat were Reece (32no), Cameron (26no), and Jedd (22no). Round 7 vs Pitt Town We made 155 batting first with Mark (36no) and Reece (22) the highest scorers. In reply Pitt Town made 9/160 to just sneak past us. Harry was the best of the bowlers with 2 for 13. Rd 8 vs North Richmond Blue North Richmond batted first and scored 145. Best of the bowlers were Zac (2 for 19), Cameron (2 for 7) and Mark (2 for 6). In probably our worst batting performance of the season we were bowled out for 97 in reply. Round 9 vs North Richmond Gold We batted first and made 157 with Cameron (26no), Reece (20no) and Mark (20no) the highest scorers. Jacob made his top score of 4. In a fantastic effort we bowled out the eventual Grand Final winners for 148 to win by 9 runs. Best of the bowlers were Jacob (2 for 28) and Reece (2 for 10). Four of Northo’s best batsmen were run out by direct hits, two from Jack and two from Cameron. A great way to end the season. Congratulations to Mark and Reece for being selected to represent the HDCA in the Creak Shield competition. Thanks to the players for a great season and to the parents for their support with umpiring and scoring. See you next year! Kevin Kwok - Coach

UNDER 12’s SEASON 2009-10 TEAM REPORT The Under 12’s are a consistently strong side and proved all year they are a tough young side to beat. They finished 3rd on the ladder, winning their semi-final against Wilberforce who finished higher on the table, in a great team effort losing only 3 wickets in the process. The team then played the final against the star studded North Richmond side. The team fought hard in the Final and gave it a good shot but just fell short chasing down a large total on the expansive Colonial Reserve. They certainly gave North Richmond a scare and made them work hard to the last ball of the game. Everyone can see from the statistics that these boys had a great year, improving their individual skills. However, the most pleasing aspect is the way they performed as a team, with all players at some point contributing – be it with the bat, ball or in the field. Huge thanks to all the parents who have assisted with the team throughout the year. Without input from the parents, it would be near impossible to even commence a match, let alone string a successful season together. So to the team of; Aiden, Chris, Tim, Cooper, Hamish, Jordon M, Travis, Alice, Benson, Brad & Jordan S, Bligh Park Cricket Club looks forward to you returning next season and continuing to build on the success this team has experienced.

Greg Milner - Coach

UNDER 13’s SEASON 2009-10 TEAM REPORT We had a successful year taking out the minor premiership and the grand final. It was an amazing feat as the boys were playing short all year. Some matches with only 7 or 8 players due to injuries. Special thanks to Joshua Kwok and Adam Worlsey who took some of the training nights and showed maturity above their years as was reported to me later by other coaches and parents. Thanks boys and good luck to all with their cricket. Adam Worsley A very handy person behind the stumps - sharp and whipping the bails off, keeping the square leg umpires on their toes. Always fine tuning the field settings, Adam also had a good year with the bat, more than once saving our match against the opposition. A good change up with the ball netted Adam a bag full of wickets. Keep up the good work! Alex Clarke You would never know that Alex had never played competitive cricket before. With beautiful front foot defence, he helped us on more than one occasion win the game by just sticking around scoring one or two an over. This helped him to a 50 in one game when it was about 40 degrees by lunch! A very good bowler, Alex took some big wickets early in most innings. Hope you try out for reps next season. Brock Wilson Brock was another new player to the side. As a coach I enjoy watching new players as they improve week by week. Brock’s excellent fielding ran out several players with his rocket arm from the deep. Well done Brock. Jarod Brett A very solid player who can still get quick runs on the board when you need them, Jarod is a great technical batsman, good to come in anywhere in the batting line up. He started the year bowling medium pace but found a new style – spin. And it worked a treat having batsman in all sorts of trouble. Thanks for a great year. Joshua Edwards Our change up wicket keeper who didn’t mind getting his hands (or clothes!) dirty, diving left and right all day putting his body on the line to save a run or two. Joshua is a very good fielder, very quick to run a ball down and also quick between the wickets when batting. Well done Joshua. Joshua Kwok Our opening bowler, he loves the shiny ball. Josh can bowl 4 overs week in week out for only a few runs and can put it on the spot 9 out of 10 times. He gets opening batters out at will. Very steady with the bat, he just keeps the runs ticking over. Josh was Captain or Vice Captain all year and setting fields to individual players was his specialty. A real morale lifter when it was needed. Thank you, Joshua. Luke Vanderwal Luke was one of the boys who win or lose, just had fun. He loves his cricket whether he gets runs or not. I can still see Luke taking a screamer of a catch – a one hander. With his left hand full stretch he was so happy when it stuck. Keep enjoying your cricket Luke.

Mark Van Den Berg Mark was another first time cricketer. He had a great time playing until he received the call to play rep soccer, which unfortunately clashed with cricket on Saturday mornings. Luckily, Mark made it back to play the grand final with us. Thanks Mark. Good luck with soccer. Nathan Egan Our fastest bowler, Nathan took 3 wickets in the grand final, a great effort. Nathan broke his foot early in the season and was batting well at the time. Nathan is another one who likes the shiny red and batters find it hard to get runs off most of his deliveries – especially his “snake cutter” ball. See you next year Nathan. Timm Turner Bowlers in other teams don’t like it when Timm comes in, as they know their average is going up. I love watching my sons eyes light up when there is a short ball, and it usually goes to the boundary or over it. He has very safe hands in the field and is a quick runner between the wickets. When he gets his spinners hitting the spot they usually get a wicket or two. Thanks Timm. Rowan Lloyd New to the team this year, but a great batter with plenty of runs coming his way. His low bowling style got him plenty of wickets, and a call up to the rep side to go to Ballina. He fitted into the side well. Top year Rowan! Throughout the year we had some fill in players: Cooper Kwok, Mark Adam and Benson Niuila - thanks boys for the help. Tom Turner - Coach

UNDER 14’s SEASON 2009-10 TEAM REPORT The Under 14’s were a very cheerful bunch of young men to coach. We didn’t make the semis or win as many games as we did last year. We often ran close to the top teams however and I think we were always an uncomfortable prospect for the opposition. We had a policy of giving everyone a go in all situations. This may have meant we lost some of the games but it helped to develop the skills and character of the whole team. Everyone was willing to give 100% and I think there was improvement for everyone over the course of the season. Beau Beau didn’t make as much of an impact with the bat as he had done in his first season. There is no doubt however that he had gained a reputation as a big hitter and teams were very keen to get him out quickly. Most of the teams had some form of a plan for him and brought their better bowlers back on when he came out to bat which they didn’t do last season. He has an excellent eye and I’m sure he can adapt and be successful in the future. Where he went really well this season was as a wicket keeper. He did not look particularly tidy all the time but when the opposition got a nick he almost never missed the catch. He took so many catches that I think he may have gone close to getting the district keeping award. Luke Luke was playing his first season of cricket and showed some signs of potential in all aspects of the game. As expected with ex-baseball players, he has an excellent arm and fielded really well. He showed some ability with the bat in terms of stroke making but will need to work on his defence a bit to start to make some significant scores. His bowling was tidy and straight and he was able to take some useful wickets for us. With hard work and more confidence in his ability I believe Luke would become a really effective cricketer. Chris Chris (or “Watto”/Shane Watson as I call him) could always be relied upon to take some sharp catches short on the off or on side. In the second half of the season he also started to hit the ball really well. His partnership with Reece up at Maroota was excellent and gave us something to bowl at. The way he weathered the new ball against Glossodia was also an indication of his character and capabilities. His bowling was also effective, taking big wickets for us in the first round game against Glossodia. His bouncer however is not as good as he thinks! Reece The highlight of Reece’s season with the bat was his stand with Chris at Maroota. His twenty odd was excellent and his hook for a one bounce four off his eyebrows was a highlight. His bowling became more and more consistent as the season went on. The tactic of opening the bowling with him in our last game so nearly came off (but we dropped the catch!). Reece has a big heart and always plays best when he digs deep. He has the technique and shots to do well with the bat and whenever he gives himself the chance to settle in and play his game he looks dangerous. Mitchell Mitch was always a potential match winner with the ball. He added a more loopy ball to his usual collection of quick leggies and topspinners. His fielding and catching was excellent in his second season. Where he improved the most in my opinion was with the bat. His temperament and patience meant he was always ready to play a long innings. His

discipline to limit himself to hit balls that were in “his area” also meant he rarely threw his wicket away. Against Schofields he showed an extra dimension; hitting some big sixes down the ground off the spinners as he grew in confidence. Here, he was putting into practice skills he had tried to develop in the nets. He thinks about the game and often has ideas about tactics. Blake Blake again showed himself to be a young man with a lot of natural talent. He has good hands, can bowl good medium pace and really good off spin. Its with the bat however he impresses the most. It all came together for him during our game against Maroota at Uni. He started to be a bit more conservative on the front foot and smack anything that dropped short. From that point on he had a game plan that was highly effective and as a lefty he found he was getting a lot of loose balls on his hip to put away for four. He wasn’t getting bowled anymore playing optimistic drives. His not out in our last game was excellent. He looked really confident, in conmmand and aware of what he wanted to achieve. Tully Tully’s bowling improved throughout the season and his leggies were always a threat. He is a good catcher, enthusiastic fielder, and is always “talking it up” in the field and helping to motivate the boys. He was another big improver with the bat. He discovered hitting the ball straight and in the “v” and was quite consistent throughout. He was one of our top batsmen by the end of the season. His pleasure at seeing the ball speed past the bowler (or over his head) was obvious. Andrew Andrew was playing his first season of cricket coming over from baseball. He has a bullet arm as you would expect and was very quick and effective in the field. He has a natural bowling action and when he was in a rhythm he was dangerous. He took four wickets against Pitt Town (I think) and was generally tight and effective. He worked hard on his batting and the highlight was his big partnership with Levi at Glossodia where I think he got 29, playing really well against high class bowling. Dominic Dom performed consistently throughout the season even though he was playing “up” two age groups. With the bat he has all the shots. His best knock was 46 against Pitt Town where he ran himself out off a bye! (that was only way they were going to get him out that day). He hit another couple of twenty odds and was rarely out for less than double figures. With a bit more attention to detail he could have been even more successful. He has an easy, fluid bowling action and his medium pacers with a little bit of shape were hard even for the best batsmen to get after. Daniel I think Daniel improved on his good performance of the year before. He was rarely out cheaply and seemed not to be troubled too much by any of the bowling. He plays nicely through the off side. His punching of balls through point for four against Glossodia in his partnership with Levi so nearly won the game for us. His fielding and his arm are excellent and I think he took four catches in our last game of the season. He thinks about the game and tries to motivate the boys in the field. His next step of improvement is to focus in to get the really big scores he is capable of.

Matty Matty gives 100% whenever he plays. His batting is correct and he chipped in with some good scores for us. As always, he took some blinders at slip and is one of the best all round fielders in the age group. His bowling was particularly impressive. He was hostile and effective with the new ball throughout the season. His ball of the season was up at South Maroota where he hit the deck hard and clipped the batsman’s gloves before he could drop them out of the way. He is always geeing the team up and lead the team well with Levi. Levi Levi is an intimidating presence with the bat and was always the “big wicket” for any team we played against. His easy power was most on display during his 56 not out against Glossodia where he dominated the bowling. His left arm quick bowling became more consistent and dangerous as the season went on and oppositions were mostly content to try to survive against Levi and Matt. He took some excellent catches with his sharp reflexes and that aspect of his game got better as the season progressed. He encouraged and lead the team in a dignified and mature manner.

UNDER 16’s BLUE SEASON 2009-10 TEAM REPORT A Team is what this under 16’s Blue are - they train, play and have fun as a team and they should be very proud of their efforts this season and the way they play and enjoy their cricket. They are positive on and off the field and give 100% in all aspects of the game and what is asked. The under 16 Blue’s came into the season unsure what was ahead, most of the boys moving up from the 14’s with the addition of 3 older players. For most of the boys they were playing for the first time on turf wickets and playing against boys a year or 2 older. Whilst our parents were driving our boys to the games in a few of the other sides, it was the boys that were driving the parents. They started off the season with an unexpected win and never looked back. The Under 16’s Blue finished equal second with the final regular season game the decider for the minor premiership, an excellent effort for the hard work they put in. They were beaten in the semis by the better team on the day, but that’s cricket. All the players had positives during the season and their moments of glory whether it was runs, wickets, catches or a fielding effort, all of which helped the team achieve their results. The players also all had their challenges which they all came through and will only make them stronger and better players both skill wise and mentally, the toughest part of the game. This was evident towards the end of the season where on a tough day the U16’s Blue were rolled for 101 after being 4 for 5 runs. They fought hard for the 101 and by battling hard in the field were rewarded by rolling the other team for 63, a very pleasing win but to see the team spirit that day was as they say “priceless”. Again as in previous years many thanks to David and all the other parents/players who helped out in scoring, training and whatever was needed at the time, it was a great help. Also, again I applaud the attitude of support that you showed not only to all our players but also to the other teams. This is a group of boys that are well respected in their age group, by the opposition teams and the same was noted by some of the umpires too. Thanks to Glen Corcoran for his coaching assistance and being another voice/mind for the boys and myself it was greatly appreciated. Thanks also to Steve Edwards (Parravans) for sponsoring the team. Congratulations to all the players for your results this year, I believe you have all grown as players this past season and hopefully learnt something new or about yourself no matter how small the achievement is, they all add up to make a difference.

UNDER 16’s WHITE SEASON 2009-10 TEAM REPORT This team was made up of players who have played together right through the junior ranks, as well as a few others that have joined the group along the way. A big congratulations goes to Jacob Magner, Hayden Cole and Brendan Sweeney who have played all seven years with this team, a terrific effort. The 2009/2010 season saw many achievements at a personal and team level. Harley Hilder in his first year of cricket excelled due to his enthusiasm and commitment to developing his technique, which was on display for all to see during his efforts in the grand final. Dean Jones joined the team and provided another element to the bowling attack with his left arm swinging deliveries. Jason Corcoran returned after a year off and had an immediate impact with his dangerous ripping leg spinners. Corey Dimech performed solidly as a keeper – batsman, providing safety behind the stumps. Shane Harkins joined the side bringing a new air of confidence while backing it up with some enticing left arm orthodox bowling and enterprising batting. Ben Conolly returned this season and developed into a consistent opening batsman, scoring his first half century. Michael Pappas was a valuable new addition with both bat and ball, as well as providing good support to Hayden as vice captain. Nav Jagdev returned from a trip overseas and continued to develop his game, playing some promising innings at the crease. Hayden Cole captained the side intelligently and led the way with some dominant batting displays. Brendan Sweeney dominated will the ball to finish the year with an outstanding average, and his batting came together with a solid effort in the semi finals. Jacob Magner had a season to be proud of in all aspects of his game, highlighted by a match winning 7 for 15 in the semi final. We would like to thank several people for their support during the year. Glen Corcoran, Steve Winters, David Wassall and Narelle Cole have all made our job a lot easier and we are grateful for their assistance. Thanks also to Mark Van Der Reyden for preparing the turf wickets and Les Pappas for hosting the team bonding session before the final. Well done boys on a fine season, it has been a pleasure to work with you over the years and to see you develop into talented young cricketers. Congratulations on reaching the grand final, you have made us proud and we hope you are proud too.
