Principal’s Message
Welcome back to all students, staff and community members! We trust you had a
happy and peaceful Christmas season. We look forward to seeing all of our
student’s faces this new year and reflect together the blessing of the birth of Christ
means in our own lives and for Catholic Education. As we journey through the cold
winter months ahead, think of how Jesus came into this world and continue to do
the blessed work of “Building Bethlehem Everywhere.”
The New Year quite often brings with it promises of hope, expectations for exciting adventures and
self-resolutions. We encourage all parents to keep in close contact with teachers regarding your
child’s social and academic progress as we near the end of term 1. It is our endeavour to promote an
open line of communication between home and school. By working together we will continue to
effectively develop the spiritual and academic lives of our children. Families are encouraged to sign
up for Twitter (@MonsignorHaller) and Newswire Alerts (http://haller.wcdsb.ca/) which will also update
you with school events and news for you to ask your children about. This is also how we send out our
school newsletters, as we are going paperless!
Winter has arrived, and with that comes the cold temperatures once again. Please note the following
Board protocols for weather:
If temperatures are between -15 to -19 degrees with the wind chill: students have a shortened
lunch recess (20 minutes)
If temperatures reach -19+ degrees with the wind chill: students stay indoors
If temperatures reach -35 degrees with the wind chill: families may keep their children home if they
wish; however, schools will be open.
As always, please ensure your child dresses for the weather, wearing layers to protect hands, feet and
faces. See the additional information in this newsletter.
We would like to wish everyone a wonderful and prosperous new year. We hope that this year brings
peace, happiness, health and many good memories with family and friends!
God Bless,
Tanya Hunter

ANGEL TREE 2016 THANK YOU
Family Movie Night
Our 2nd family movie night was another
huge success. It was great to see so many
students and even their younger sibilings
enjoying a movie together with
our school family.
Christmas Week recap The students of Monsignor Haller had a great week
of activities leading up to Christmas Break.
Children enjoyed performing at our Christmas
concert, we did Christmas crafts, enjoyed movies
in our PJs and had a school wide Christmas bingo.
We would like to thank all parents, grandparents
and friends who came to support our efforts.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! to all who selected
angels this year. An amazing 77 children had a brighter
Christmas because of your generosity.

Healthy, Active Living Fit Bit
Health Canada recommends that children be active for at least 90 minutes per day. This includes 30 minutes of vigorous activity and 60 minutes of moderate activity. However, winter is often a time when people tend to stay inside to avoid the cold. Winter is a beautiful time to be outdoors, as long as everyone is dressed properly and stays active. Take advantage of a new snowfall go for a family
walk in the woods
Go for a family skate or play hockey on an outdoor neighbourhood rink
Toboggan with a group of friends
Build a snowman or fort with packing snow
Whatever the activity, remember to “Wear the Gear” and be safe.
WINTER WEATHER NOTICES
Children should be dressed accordingly for the outdoor
weather.
When severe weather conditions exist, it is important to listen to the local radio stations for accurate and up to date information. Broadcasts will be given out between 6:00 and 8:30 a.m. Parents should monitor the WCDSB website, social media feed, and radio stations for information on cancellations.
If buses are cancelled in the morning they will not run at all that day. Parents who drive their children to school must return to pick-up by 3:20 p.m.
Field Trips will be cancelled when buses and taxis are cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
Extended Day programs will not run when the school is closed.
