The doors that we nee d to conti nuously push open are the locked ones of the Cenacle that seemi ngly provide comfort and s ecurity i n our lives. Through the gif t of the Holy Spi ri t we press o nwa rd to take up with confi dence the great mission of the New Evangelization. By such witness, we are signs of hope and u nity i n our pa inful ly f ragmente d w orld. At a recent gathering of members of the newly formed Pon tif ical Council for Promoting New Eva nge li zation, our Holy F athe r Pope Bened ict XVI, pointed out tha t it was the Holy Spiri t w ho pushed the apostles to “open the doors of the Cena cl e, making them into evangelizers.”The Holy Father formed this new Coun cil to help foster an intensified ‘missionary action’ and s piri t and a ‘r enewed method’ of proclaiming the Gospel. The Holy Father we nt on to sa y: “ A dynamic continui ty exists betw een the p rocl amation of the fi rst disci ples and our own. In the course of centuri es the Church has never cea sed to proclaim the s alvif ic mystery ofthe de ath and resurrecti on of Jesus Chri st, but that Dear Colleague, I hope this finds you well as summer commences and the world around us seems to slow down in to a more relaxed pace. The Dominican Friars are tirelessly living out their mission and charism ofpreaching Jesus Christ in the Dominican tradition. The ways they do so are man ifol d as they -- with their great adeptness at evangelizing, as true sons ofSt. Dominic -- employvarious forms and media to engage the culture and respond to the pressing questions and concerns ofthe day. As laity, we too are called to the great mission of the New Evangelization.
