Hello Division Eighteen,
This is LeeAnn Owens, your Lieutenant Governor. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know all of you as I’ve been serving the division these last few months. This is my second newsletter. Please read these and pass the information onto your clubs! I will be discussing upcoming events, how you can become involved with Key Club online, what clubs in the Division have been up to, our May Divisional meeting, future divisional meetings, the International Key Club Convention (ICON), and how to keep your club active this summer! Events There is no set date yet, but we will have a divisional in mid July.
The Key Club International Convention will be held in Anaheim, California July 3rd-6th. The NYDKC group is leaving on Monday 6/30 to tour for a few days before the actual convention begins.
Social
Networking You can help keep in touch with the division by joining the Division 18 Facebook group! I also recommend that you check out the Key Club app. There are a lot of great articles and service ideas! The Membership Committee has started the Humans of Key Club project (HOKC). It is modeled after the Humans of New York blog. It will include stories about Key Clubbers from throughout the District! Keep on eye out for HOKC on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. Be sure to subscribe for Governor Jacob’s State of the District emails! You can subscribe on nydkc.org.

Spotlights
The Tamarac Key Club held an Ice Cream Social to introduce Key Club to incoming Freshmen. The club’s president, Shanaya Bulmer, talked about what the club has accomplished in the past year and how they will continue to serve the community. The students had the opportunity to ask questions. They enjoyed ice cream and took part in several ice breakers with the current members.
Divisional
Recap Our May Divisional was held on Wednesday, May 23rd. I distributed packets with information on each officer’s responsibilities and other helpful information on running your clubs. I discussed what was going on at the District and International levels of Key Club. We did two Icebreakers. The most important things that we discussed were that all future divisionals would be held at the East Greenbush Community Library, since that is the most central location for the Division, and that we would do a mini service project at each divisional. There will be a host club for each project. They will choose the project and provide the materials. Tamarac, Tech Valley, and Averill Park will host the first three projects. Divisionals are a great way to connect and exchange ideas with other clubs in your division. I encourage you all to attend the July Divisional!
ICON
The 2014 International Key Club Convention will take place July 2nd-6th in Anaheim, California. ICON is a great way to learn about Key Club at the International level. Key Clubbers from around the world exchange ideas. Lifelong friends are made! The House of Delegates vote on Amendments to the International Bylaws and elect the new International officers. It’s an incredible experience that any Key Clubber would enjoy!

Staying active
over the Summer
It can be difficult to keep a club active over the summer, especially when everyone lives so far apart! There are several things that you can do to be sure that you still have plenty to put on your monthly report forms! First, make sure that you’re able to stay in touch with your members. This can be through email, phone, or social media. If your club wants to help the community, but doesn’t have the participation to organize a service project on your own, try visiting volunteermatch.org. It’s a site that has tons of service opportunities, and yes, you can find some right in your community! Summer is also a great time to do a park or roadside clean-up! This is a great service project because it doesn’t require much financial resources, just man-power! If you have a lot of participation in your club this is a great option for you! Lastly, check out the Key Club app! There are several articles with ideas on how to stay active over the summer!
Paperwork Chart
Secretary Heather regularly updates a spreadsheet with the status of forms for every club in the District. This includes ERF’s and MRF’s, but not FRF’s. I’ve included a picture of it so that you can see where your club is wth your paperwork. If you ever want to know what forms you need to submit, just ask!
