FUN IN THE SUN Keep safe this summer

Just a reminder that it is recommended that pupils have a wide brimmed or foreign legion style hat which protects the neck. Parents are asked to consider applying an all day sun cream prior to pupils coming to school. One parent has expressed concern regarding the ingredients in all day sun creams. If parents prefer, pupils may still bring sun cream at school but the following protocol must be observed.

The sun cream must be clearly labelled with the child’s name and if for a young child have a distinctive sticker attached.

The sun cream must be kept in the box provided in each class – NOT in book bags, coats or pockets.

Each child must be trained at home how to best apply his or her own sun cream. Teachers and supervisors cannot apply sun cream for your child unless there is a medical requirement, this being dealt with through the Administration of Medicines Policy.

DC ADE ADAMSON RETURNS eSafety Presentation for parents and carers. In March 2015 DC Ade Adamson (parent governor) delivered a presentation for parents and carers on the whole issue of eSafety. It is one of his areas of expertise. The meeting was universally well received and in many ways was quite a revelation and at times shocking.Events recently confirm that this message needs to be heard again and again. If as a parent you haven’t attended before I urge you to consider this new opportunity. I ask you … Can you afford not to attend? PUPILS FROM THIS SCHOOL HAVE ALREADY BEEN AFFECTED BY ON LINE ACTIVITY IN THE HOME. It can happen in any home, in any community to any child and at any age. Be prepared for the REAL world because your children live in it.

We can dream of a sunny summer, can’t we?

Slip Slop Slap Seek Slide SUN SAFETY ... SAFETY FOR CHILDREN

Encouraging children to take simple precautions will prevent both short and long term sun damage while allowing them to enjoy their time outside.

• Infants under 12 months should be kept in the shade.

• Cover up children with hats, protective clothing and sunglasses.

• Use a sunscreen with an appropriate SPF factor for each family member based on individual skin type.

• Limit the time spent in the midday sun when the UV index is at its highest.

• Monitor exposure to the sun using a UV monitor.

THE SOLAR INDEXThe UV Index is a scale given to the level of UV radiation on a given day. It ranges from 0 to 20-the higher the index, the higher the potential for damage to the skin and eyes and the less time it takes for this damage to occur.

School Meals are Excellent Value.Any Parent/Carer or Grandparent who would like to come to school and enjoy dinner with their children is welcome to do so. Just telephone the office before 10.00 am. on or before the school day* to reserve a meal. Please bring photo I.D. with you. Adult meals cost £3.30. A child’s meal costs £2.30. It is excellent value, and by educating children away from a diet of crisps and processed food we are together building a lifetime of good eating habits and healthy hearts.

DINNERS MUST BE PREPAID, no more than £2.30 will be accepted in arrears. Money must be sent to the classroom in a labelled envelope. PLEASE DO NOT SEND LOOSE MONEY. Each room has a post box through which letters and money (providing it is in a labelled sealed envelope) can be sent to the school office. Meals are advertised on the website and there is always the salad with two wraps option. Children can self serve salad, vegetables and fruit salad and can have second portions.

* Please note; there are occasions e.g at Christmas during the show weeks, and on sporting tournament days when it is not possible to accommodate extra adult guests at lunchtime. The same applies on the first week in September when the priority is to reestablish systems for our pupils particularly our new starters.

R EXHIBITION OF WORK EVENING A CHANCE TO CELEBRATE WHAT OUR CHILDREN ACHIEVE

On Monday 4th July the School will be hosting its annual Exhibition of Work Evening. The whole school will be open and pupils are encouraged to bring their parents to school between 5.30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The children should be your guide and show you their work and classrooms. Teachers are all here for informal discussions. In addition parents are encouraged to have a look all around the school, in other classrooms and to have a look at what everyone else has been doing. Certainly it is recommended that parents have a look at the classrooms their children are transferring to.

Staff will be available in the Conservation Area so please do go and have a look at the habitats. Not to be missed are the class garden tubs, each designed by a class this year around the theme of “Sensational Sensations”. Which is your favourite?

As before there will be a rolling programme of music in the hall. We sincerely hope

that Parent/Carers will facilitate their children being in the hall to perform.

The choir always delight and their programme as always is a closely guarded secret.

For the first time ever Year 2 will perform for us. This is the second year that Year 2 have attended the Big Little Sing at the Spa in Bridlington and this is during the day of the 4th. It seemed an ideal opportunity for the children to share with us what they have been practising.

The programme:

Big Little Sing7:00 pm Y3 Recorders7:10 pm Y4 Recorders7:20 pm Y5 Recorders7:30 pm Y6 Recorders7.40 pm The Choir

Please note for everyone’s safety and

comfort a one way system will operate through the hall. In

addition Parent/Carers are encouraged not to

bring prams/pushchairs into the school and

through the corridors. Wherever possible, please use external

routes to the classrooms. Every

room has an external door.

REPORTS

These will be published before the Exhibition of Work Evening.

Y6 Reports are sometimes delayed if the SATs results have not been forwarded to school in time.

R UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS A chance to play for England, or Wales or ...

Children in KS2 are looking forward to the opportunity to stage their own Football Tournaments. These will have our usual ‘International’ flavour and are designed to celebrate the UEFA European Championships

On Wednesday 15th June at 9:15am the Y3/Y4 Tournament will be hosted. In the first half of the morning all the pupils will be playing full time in the group stages. At around 10:30, the Knockout Tournament will begin with the top two teams from each group playing.

tournament will be organised for Y5 and Y6. The draw will

be made for the teams and

distributed before the tournaments. Parent/Carers are most welcome to join us and bring a deckchair or rug to watch the matches. again thanks go to Mrs. Hunsley, our extremely

flexible Cook, for facilitating this.

YEAR 6 v TICKTON

(St John’s League 1) 5th May 2016

After a very wet spring, Molescroft were eager to welcome Tickton in their home game in the St John’s League. Molescroft got off to a great start, pressing hard straight from the kick off and soon found themselves in the lead with a wonderful goal from Will Page. Super passing from Josh Willans and Jacob Hunter ensured the home side kept possession and were able to mount a series of attacks on Tickton’s goal. Jude Kilgannon almost added to the score but unfortunately his shot just missed the post. However, Harrison Fell did score a wonderful headed goal, soaring above his opponents to direct the ball into the net. Strong tackling from Gabby Caruso in midfield caused Tickton problems and Josh Allinson, playing in his first game for Molescroft, looked masterful on the ball, weaving through the midfield and passing accurately to his team mates. Unfortunately, a slip in concentration at the back saw keeper Sam Dulson unable to keep hold of the ball and it trickled over the line. A heartened Tickton followed this with a spell of pressure, forcing Molescroft back to defend with all hands. The half time whistle put a stop to any

further score, Molescroft ended the half hanging on to a slim lead. The second half started with Molescroft again in charge, surging forward to pepper the Tickton goal with shots. Maddie Stephenson chased well in midfield, making a nuisance of herself and pressuring the opposition into making errors. Defenders Henry Tippett, Zak Willey and Jacob Savage coped well at the back and Molescroft’s superb passing led to Will scoring three goals in quick succession, Tickton clearly had no answer to his strength and skill. With a 5-2 lead Molescroft seemed comfortable but several uncharacteristic errors enabled the visitors to pull back the lead and they managed somehow to get themselves level. With both teams tackling and battling for the win, time ran out and the game ended a 5-5 draw. This was a very competitive game to watch, great for the spectators who thoroughly enjoyed their feast of football. The return game will be very interesting, who will get the upper hand? Well done everyone.

FEEDBACK from the AssessorEmbed LearningWell done. It is great to see how well you have embedded learning throughout the school in a variety of topics. Combining PSCE with Fairtrade really gives students the opportunity to think about what fair means. The 'Wish You Were Here' lessons is really well thought out as students are able to think about how different farmers' lives are in Malawi and the journey their food goes on before arriving at their plate. I particularly like that the Fairtrade Steering Group are given the opportunity to go and teach the other students about what they have learnt - this is a great way of engaging them with learning about Fairtrade. Well done!

Use Fairtrade Products The Fairtrade stall sounds like a fantastic success! £3000's worth of stock is an incredible achievement and the Fairtrade committee should be very proud of themselves. Well done for having Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar in the staff room and at events and for selling Fairtrade sports ball. For your renewal, you might want to consider what other Fairtrade products you could introduce - for example could the canteen offer Fairtrade juice?

First Challenge - Fairtrade EventThis is a well thought out event which covers a lot of aspect of campaigning for Fairtrade. It's great that you involved the local Fairtrade group and he was able to offer up real life stories of how Fairtrade had impacted farmers' lives. Well done for getting this event covered by local press as it's a great way of raising awareness for Fairtrade.

For your renewal you might want to consider inviting parents and carers or another local school to raise awareness of Fairtrade even further.

Second Challenge - FundraisingAgain this is a great event which involves the whole school as well as the wider community. It's great that you were able to focus on Fairtrade sports balls as this is a lesser known products which affects many farmers and their families. It is fantastic that you have such great links with local businesses when it comes to promoting Fairtrade - you should be very proud of your efforts. Well done!

Complete a Teacher Audit It is so great to see how widely Fairtrade is embedded in your school – from Fairtrade tuck shops and assemblies to including the wider community and holding fundraising events. It is clear to see that you have worked hard to ensure that you raise awareness for Fairtrade both in the school and in the wider community. Well done! For your renewal, you might consider inviting another local school to learn about Fairtrade from your students- as they clearly must be experts by now!

Green Mole: Congratulations to Mrs. Hemphill and the Fair Trade Steering group on achieving the renewal of the school’s Fair Trade status. In addition a massive thank you to all the pupil supporters of the Fair Trade Products and events.

Attendance and Holidays

Attendance for the year to July 2015 was 97.4%

Unauthorised absences are rare as parents/carers always inform the school either by letter, phone or in person of the reason why

their child was absent. We are grateful for the support of parents/carers in this matter and also for keeping the time pupils are absent for holidays to a minimum. The unauthorised absence rate was 0.3%.

Please note the dates above do not necessarily correspond with those of neighbouring schools

Absences

Parents/carers are required to inform the school office of the reason for absence as soon as possible. This may be in person or by telephone. Failure to do so will result in an unauthorised absence being recorded. In the interest of pupil security, absence should be reported to the school office by telephone or in person. (email is not accepted) before school commences each day.

Holidays in term time Head Teachers can no longer sanction holidays in term time. Taking holiday absence will lead to an unauthorised absence.

Fines are imposed by the Local Authority for unauthorised absence. Fines are issued per child, per parent, per accumulated week of absence. The school does not receive any money.
