FOOD FROM HEAVEN God sustained the people of Israel for forty years in the de-sert with manna sent down from heaven, and Moses doesn’t want them to forget it. God brought forth water from stone for them to drink, and Moses doesn’t want them to forget this, either. And Moses tells them —twice— that the food that God sent was a food that neither they nor their ancestors before them had ever experienced before. Jesus too speaks of food come down from heaven, food that the Jewish people had never experienced before. Recalling the manna in the desert, Jesus doesn’t want them to forget it either, explaining that he is the food and drink of eternal life. And Paul reiterates to the Corinthians and to all of us that in the bread and in the cup, we share in the body and blood of Christ.

ALIMENTO CELESTIAL Dios sustentó al pueblo de Israel por cuarenta años en el desierto con maná venido del cielo, y Moisés no quiere que lo olviden. Dios hizo brotar agua de la roca para que bebieran, y Moisés tampoco quiere que olviden esto. Y Moisés se lo dice –dos veces— que el alimento que Dios envió era comida que ni ellos ni sus antepasados jamás habían probado antes. Jesús, también habla del pan venido del cielo, comida que el pueblo judío jamás había probado antes. Recordando el maná del desierto, Jesús tampoco quiere que ellos lo olviden, expli-cándoles que él es pan y bebida para la vida eterna. Y Pablo les reitera a los corintios y a todos nosotros que en el pan y en la copa participamos en el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. POPE FRANCIS - PAPA FRANCISCO The Eucharist communicates the Lord’s love for us: a love so great that it nourishes us with Himself; a freely given love, always available to every person who hungers and needs to regenerate his own strength. To live the experience of faith means to allow oneself to be nourished by the Lord and to build one’s own existence not with material goods but with the reality that does not perish: the gifts of God, his Word and his Body. If we look around, we realize that there are so many offers of food which do not come from the Lord and which appear to be more satisfying. Some nourish themselves with money, others with success and vanity, others with power and pride. But the food that truly nourishes and satiates us is only that which the Lord gives us! The food the Lord offers us is different from other food, and perhaps it doesn’t seem as fla-vorful to us as certain other dishes the world offers us. So we dream of other dishes, like the Hebrews in the desert, who longed for the meat and onions they ate in Egypt, but forgot that they had eat-en those meals at the table of slavery. In those moments of temptation, they had a memory, but a sick memory, a selective memory. A slave memory, not a free one. We, today, may ask ourselves: what about me? Where do I want to eat? At which table to I want to be nourished? At the Lord’s table? Or do I dream about eating flavorful foods, but in slavery? Moreover, we may ask ourselves: what do I recall? The Lord who saves me, or the garlic and onions of slavery? Which recollection satiates my soul? The Father tells us: “I fed you with manna, which you did not know”. Let us recover this memory. This is the task, to recover that memory. And let us learn to recognize the false bread that deceives and corrupts, because it comes from sel shness, from self-reliance and from sin.

En la Eucaristía se comunica el amor del Señor por nosotros: un amor tan grande que nos nutre de sí mismo; un amor gratuito, siempre a disposición de toda persona hambrienta y necesitada de regenerar las propias fuerzas. Vivir la experiencia de la fe signi ca dejarse alimentar por el Señor y construir la pro-pia existencia no sobre los bienes mate-riales, sino sobre la realidad que no pe-rece: los dones de Dios, su Palabra y su Cuerpo. Si miramos a nuestro alrededor, nos damos cuenta de que existen muchas ofertas de alimento que no vienen del Señor y que aparentemente satisfacen más. Algunos se nutren con el dinero, otros con el éxito y la vanidad, otros con el poder y el orgullo. Pero el alimento que nos nutre verdaderamente y que nos sacia es sólo el que nos da el Señor. El alimento que nos ofrece el Señor es dis-tinto de los demás, y tal vez no nos pare-ce tan gustoso como ciertas comidas que nos ofrece el mundo. Entonces soñamos con otras comidas, como los judíos en el desierto, que añoraban la carne y las cebollas que comían en Egipto, pero olvidaban que esos alimen-tos los comían en la mesa de la esclavi-tud. Ellos, en esos momentos de tenta-ción, tenían memoria, pero una memoria enferma, una memoria selectiva. Una memoria esclava, no libre. Cada uno de nosotros, hoy, puede preguntarse: ¿y yo? ¿Dónde quiero comer? ¿En qué mesa quiero alimentar-me? ¿En la mesa del Señor? ¿O sueño con comer manjares gustosos, pero en la esclavitud? Además, cada uno de noso-tros puede preguntarse: ¿cuál es mi me-moria? ¿La del Señor que me salva, o la del ajo y las cebollas de la esclavitud? ¿Con qué memoria sacio mi alma? El Padre nos dice: «Te he alimentado con el maná que tú no conocías». Recu-peremos la memoria. Esta es la tarea, recuperar la memoria. Y aprendamos a reconocer el pan falso que engaña y corrompe, porque es fruto del egoísmo, de la autosu ciencia y del pecado.

REOPENING - REAPERTURA

St. Michael the Archangel’s daily Masses resumed on Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 following these guidelines:

1. Daily Mass will be in the main church not in the chapel.

2. Each person attending Mass is required to wear a face mask.

3. Front doors are the only entrance. These will be propped open prior to Mass and after Communion.

4. Seating will only be in nave (center) portion of the church, keeping social distance of sis feet apart except those living in the same household.

5. There will be no sign of peace exchanged be-tween attendees.

6. Communion is only to be received on the hand, while in line you should maintain two pews distance with the person in front of you.

Weekend Masses (Saturday and Sunday) remain suspended during this phase. Sunday Masses and other devotions will continue to be livestreamed. In addition to parishes, the Diocese continues to broadcast live Masses and recorded events on the Diocese of Dallas website and local television. During such Masses, there will be an act of spiritual communion. All Catholics of the Diocese of Dallas remain dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass “on Sundays and other holy days of Obligation” (canon 1247). Las Misas diarias de San Miguel el Arcángel se reinstituyeron a partir del martes, 26 de mayo de 2020 cumpliendo los siguientes lineamientos:

1. La Misa diaria será en la iglesia principal, no en la capilla.

2. Se requiere que cada persona que asista a misa use una mascarilla apropiada.

3. Las puertas frontales de la Iglesia son la única entrada. Éstas estarán abiertas antes de la Misa y después de la Comunión.

4. Únicamente las bancas en la parte central de la iglesia, serán usadas manteniendo la distancia social de 6 pies, excepto para aquellos que viven en la misma casa.

5. No habrá intercambio de saludos de paz entre los asistentes.

6. La Comunión solo deberá recibirse en la mano, mientras se encuentre en la la debe mantener dos bancas de distancia con la persona frente a usted.

Las Misas de n de semana (sábado y domingo) permanecen suspendidas durante esta fase. Las Misas dominicales y otras devociones seguirán siendo transmiti-das en vivo. Además de las parroquias, la Diócesis conti-nuará transmitiendo Misas en vivo y eventos grabados en el sitio web de la Diócesis de Dallas y la televisión local. Durante dichas Misas, se realizará un acto de comunión espiritual. Todos los Católicos de la Diócesis de Dallas siguen dispensados de la obligación de asistir a Misa “el domingo y las demás estas de precepto” (canon 1247). El requisi-to de recibir la Comunión durante la temporada de Pascua (canon 920) puede cumplirse en otro momento del año.
