Newsletter Deadline
for
July
Messenger
is
Tuesday, June 19th June 3rd — Service at 9am
Recreation = Re-creation! Summer has finally arrived (I think)! Sum-
mer is time for rejuvenation and vaca-
tions. We spend more time outside and
more time connecting in different ways.
Since most of our formative years spent
summer on break, our natural inclination is to slow down, relax, take
some time for ourselves and our families.
So where does God fit in? How do we rejuvenate our relationship
with God and our church family?
Just as we spend more time with family and more time taking care
of ourselves, we also should spend more time working on our spiri-
tual health. Seek ways to relax with God. We recently got out our
hammock and the kids have enjoyed spending time lounging and
swinging. It is quite enjoyable to lay in the hammock, read a book
and listen to nature. The birds chirping, the dogs barking, the
smells of flowers and mowed grass, are all reminders of creation,
the beauty of God. The warm sun, the cool showers, the friendly
faces, all chances to see God, to remember God, to connect with
God.
Remember God is everywhere. Find God where you are and spend
this Summer enjoying recreation and re-creation!
Pastor Katie

this ministry..)
PRAYER CHAIN If you have any prayer requests or want to be included on the Ebenezer Prayer Chain, please contact Pastor Katie Van der Linden at (610) 442-3790 OR [email protected]. The most important thing to remember is to have permission of the person or family before you request it be included on the Prayer Chain. Also, please be sure to just give facts and don’t add any rumors or assumptions. Please use any information you get just for the prayer request.
The Choir will be OFF for the summer months. Practice will resume in fall. We will keep everyone updated. Contact Glennis Zastrow if
you have questions.
E-MAIL FILE We are in the process of updating our mass e-mail list so Pastor Katie can send messages to all church members at once.
I would appreciate it if all church members would forward their e-mail addresses to me, ([email protected]) so I can check it against my list. Trudi will then update the file at church for Pastor Katie to use. Thank you. Dawn
I graduated NWTC, (Northeast Technical College of Wisconsin), in Green Bay on May 11th
with my Associates degree in Early Childhood Education. I graduated with highest honors
and also wore a sash for the study abroad program I did in Belize. My future plans are
attending UW Whitewater in the fall to complete my bachelor's in education with the dual
certification program that includes special education. I thank my Ebenezer family for all
their support and prayers and goodie baskets through my journey, and ask that you con-
tinue to pray and support me as I continue on with this next step of that journey.
Monica Meyer
Next fall I will be attending Boston University and plan to major in Film and T.V. I hope to one day become a
movie director or producer, but my back-up plan is to use my communications degree to become a book or maga-
zine editor. While attending BU, I hope to study abroad in Australia and participate in an internship in L.A, Cali-
fornia. This year I was one of the fortunate seniors to receive scholarships, including the Reverend Frederick
and Ruth Lempke scholarship along with the Katherine Skinner Theater award and American Legion Medal award.
As I head off to Boston in September, and wherever else I go in the future, I will forever remember everyone at
Ebenezer Moravian Church and the support and love the church has given me. Jillian Degrandt

MEALS ON WHEELS It was back in 1970 when the idea of providing a healthy meal for some of our city’s elderly and/or recuperating citizens, delivered to their homes, began to get some con-sideration. A planning committee composed of representatives from the hospital, churches and Health Department put together the logistics of doing this. The task was completed and on June 1, 1972, meals prepared by the hospital, were delivered to 21 customers on 2 routes by volunteer teams from the churches of Watertown.
December 1, 1973, a third route was begun and in March of 1976 Marquardt Manor’s dietary department prepared meals for a 4th route. In time the hospital assumed preparation of all 4 routes until construction projects there necessitated changes in preparation and pickup sites with the last being Perkins Restaurant. When Perkins closed the end of October 2017, the Watertown Meals on Wheels ceased.
Ebenezer participated in the Meals on Wheels program almost from the beginning and happened to be on “duty” to do the last week of service.
The Jefferson County Senior Nutrition has added Watertown’s patrons to it’s program and is in need of volunteers. When we were approached about continuing our services, we were without a pastor and it was decided to hold off and let the elders and our new pastor make that decision.
Let the boards know of your wishes, keeping in mind the importance of this service, but knowing it can’t be done unless YOU are willing to help out. This is a very important ministry to our community and a great way to meet our neighbors!
LAYETTE CHALLENGE On May 13, Justin Rabbach from the Board of World Mission joined us for our Mission Sunday. He shared with us a list of aid needed for the medical clinic in Ahuas, Honduras. Pastor Katie and Justin challenged our congregation to create 50 of these in time for Father’s Day (June 17).
A church of 77 made 25 care packages for refugees in Madison. Our church of 200 can definitely create 50 layettes for families in Honduras. Kits can be dropped off in the narthex in any box as they will be repackaged to get to Honduras. The deadline is June 17th! If each family creates one, we will surpass our goal easily!
Layette List — For newborn babies at the Moravian Clinic in Ahuas, Honduras
Onesies
a couple of diapers (CLOTH….NOT disposable)
diaper pins
lightweight receiving blanket
baby hat
socks or bib
teether or some SMALL toy
baby powder
Over 200 babies are born each year at the Ahuas clinic in Honduras. This ministry has served the people of La Mos-quitia for over 70 years. Layettes, basically a “welcome to the world” kit for newborns, are a tremendous gift for new par-ents in this area. Once packaged, a representative of the Board of World Mission will carry the Layettes to the clinic, where they will be gifted by the doctors and nurses on staff at the clinic

GREETERS, LAY READERS & FELLOWSHIP HOSTS If you are interested in being a greeter or lay reader, or hosting Fellowship Hour after the church service, please sign up.
The Elder on duty each month will pass around the clipboards before worship begins and will collect them at the end of announcements. If you wish to sign up after the service is over, the clipboards will be in the Narthex.
BOARD BOOKS
The City of Watertown Health Department needs board books for at risk preschool children. The
books should be gently used or new, bright colors and easy language. (most of them are). The city
Health Department takes the books to children, helps parents with reading to the children and gives a
book to the family. Reading is an essential skill and early intervention is so important for a child’s de-
velopment. This could be a one time project, or an on going project. Carol Grunewald has offered to
take the books to the Health Department, or someone else could be designated. This is a community
out reach project.
NOISY OFFERING April to June — Food to Go & Grow
July to September — Shared Community Mission
If you have any suggestions for future rotations, please share your idea with one of the Elders.

Atkinson on Thursday evening July 12th. This is the sequel to the original Church

life, death, and new adventures, finding strength in each other from songs, heart-
warming humor, and hilarious tactics.
Price of the international buffet and the performance ticket is $69.00 per person.
We will not order tickets until we have 18 people signed up which is the minimum to
get the group rate. Invite interested family and friends to come with us to enjoy a
night of food, fellowship, and fun. A sign-up sheet is available in the church narthex
for those interested. If you have any questions please contact Tom Naatz cell#

Taking a Deep Breath - A Service of Healing
Ebenezer has been through a lot in the last two years. Much has changed and for many, it has felt different. It is hard to say exactly, but there are so many emotions connected to the last two years, we might not even realize it. Transitions and change are hard. They become even harder when we do not get the opportunity to release emotions and share feelings. On Saturday June 2nd at 7pm, we will have the opportunity to start healing. It is a process and doesn’t happen overnight, but having a chance to voice our feelings and share our struggles in a safe place is a good start. Come, share, observe, listen, find support in one another.

Book Study Group
Do you like to read? Have you read any good books lately?
Want to get out to a nice meal and chat a while? Pastor
Katie is looking to start a book club at Ebenezer. A book
will be chosen (recommendations needed, not necessarily
a spiritual book, God speaks through many books) and
copies made available. A date will be chosen to enjoy a
lunch or dinner out while discussing the book. Even if you
do not choose to read the book, you are invited to join
for the event. Please talk to Pastor Katie if you would like
to join and also if you prefer a lunch or a dinner. We will
try to pick a local restaurant possibly linked with the
theme of the book.
Look for a sign-up sheet in the narthex. This is open to
everyone, friends and family too. Always a good time
sharing a meal and discussing a good book!
Ebenezer Kids is BAAAACCCKKK!
It has been a while (like years!) but we have some amazing kids who need a space of their own. Mark your calendars for June 19, July 10, July 24, August 7 and August 21! Bring your kiddos to church from 6-8pm for church just for them. We will have lessons and crafts, games and snacks.
All ages welcome. Parents can stay or go. Please talk to Pastor Katie for more information or to volunteer. This will be a great space for kids to feel special and learn about God in a way that is fun and flexible.

CAPITAL FUND DRIVE ARROWHEAD EXPANSION
In 1964, the Western District of the Moravian Church purchased what would become the Mount Morris Camp & Conference Center. Sandhill was built as the first programming space with complete kitchen facilities in 1972. In 2000, additional buildings were constructed con-sisting of seven cabins, Black Oak and Arrowhead, which was to be used as the primary pro-gram and dining space. The Mount Morris Board of Directors, affirmed by the 2016 Western District Synod, approved a $600,000 campaign to expand Arrowhead.
Contributions may be made on line: www.mt-morris.org.
Click on Arrowhead Expansion and then ”$Donate”.
Please select “Arrowhead Expansion Project Fund”.
FELLOWSHIP TIME Being someone who has been born and raised Moravian, specifically a lifelong member of Ebene-zer, I have always taken pride in knowing that people have referred to Ebenezer as the "friendly country church." Having been involved in Praise Bands in different congregations, I have definitely been able to see why people say what they do about Ebenezer. However, lately it has come to our attention that we may not always be greeting people that are visitors in the way we should. Maybe we are too shy to introduce ourselves. Maybe it's not knowing what to talk about. Or maybe it is sim-ply not wanting to engage in a conversation before church. Whatever the reason, it is so important that we try to make these new people feel welcome. The Board of Elders has decided that the 2nd Sunday of every month, beginning in June (if nobody has already signed up), we will hold a fellow-ship hour. This guarantees at least one Sunday a month where people can enjoy a snack and drink and feel comfortable engaging in a conversation in a less formal setting. Our hope is that we as a congregation, can begin new relationships with people we don't know to encourage them to keep on returning. Let's all work together to continue being the "friendly country church."
In Christian Love,
Theresa Vesper, Elder

watching her grow-up making decisions (good & bad) in all aspects of her life experiences.

Ebenezer wishes a loving farewell to Kathy and Jim Baum who are with-drawing their membership from our church. They are following God’s lead-ing and thank you for your prayers for this difficult decision. The Baum’s have been members at Ebenezer for over 30 years and are thankful for their connections and support.
