G ‘day

Only four weeks left for the Rotary year 2018-2019. Or one twelfth of our year together. We can

achieve a lot in these last four weeks. Keep going as we change over to the new Rotary year with DG

John McKenzie as our leader.

This month let us look at how we can increase and retain members. There are several clubs in D9700

that need help to survive into the future. We need to offer our help as best we can. Each Group in

D9700 has one club that need more members to become more effective in local community work.

Look to your neighbouring club and see how they are going.

This month we will launch a District 9700 Chapter of the Rotary Means Business Fellowship. More

follows in this bulletin. Fellowships are plentiful in Rotary over 80 at last count and some include,

Beers Rotarians Enjoy Worldwide BREW, Cricket, Curling, Flying, Gourmet Cooking, Magicians, Russian

Culture, Skiing, Whisk(e)y and Yoga. Something for all.

Have a wonderful time in June work hard and strive to increase membership.

Remember to Be The Inspiration to all around you.

I. PRESIDENT BARRY RASSIN’S MESSAGE JUNE 2019

June 2019

As I look back on all the things I have seen and the people I have met since becoming president of

Rotary International last July, I am certain of this: Rotary’s capacity to transform lives for the better is

unparalleled. Our impact is far beyond anything I could have imagined when I first became a Rotarian.

I think about the Rotarians I met in Pakistan, who partnered with Coca-Cola to improve sanitation in

Karachi’s neighbourhoods while supporting polio eradication efforts. I think about the Puerto Rican

Rotarians who are helping entire communities rebuild their lives after Hurricane Maria. I think about

the German Rotaractors who are working to save bees — whose role as pollinators is so important to

our planet — from extinction. I think about the six Rotarians and Rotaractors who were honored as

People of Action: Young Innovators at Rotary Day at the United Nations in Nairobi, Kenya, in November

for their work to create novel solutions to tough challenges.

It seems like only yesterday that I stood on a stage in San Diego and asked you to Be the

Inspiration in your clubs, in your communities, and in the world. Your response was an inspiration to

me. You are paving the way for Rotaractors to become our future leaders, helping start new Rotaract

clubs and working to include Rotaractors in Rotary events and projects in your communities. You are

working hard to eradicate polio, participating in 4,200 events in more than 100 countries for World

Polio Day. And you are carrying out transformative projects that will create lasting change in your

communities and in the world.

This year, I also saw how Rotary’s work to build peace is bearing fruit. The 98 Rotary Peace Fellows

who are studying at our peace centres will soon graduate, joining more than 1,200 others in applying

their conflict resolution skills to problems that need solutions. And this month, Esther and I will travel

to Hamburg, Germany, for a convention where people of all races, nationalities, religions, and political

backgrounds will unite because they want to make the lives of all people better.

Seeing what Rotary means to people — to the communities we serve and to Rotarians themselves —

has deepened my affection and admiration for all that Rotary is and does.

Soon it will be time for Esther and me to return home to Nassau. When we get there, I will look out on

the vast sea that surrounds our island, and it will remind me of Rotary’s limitless possibilities, and of

the amazing future that awaits us beyond the horizon. I look forward to sailing there with you.

Here we are in Hamburg waiting to see our friends, Rotarians and Rotaractors from around

the world Barry and Esther

II. ROTARY FELLOWSHIPS

ROTARY MEANS BUSINESS FELLOWSHIP D9700 CHAPTER

Graphics by Debbie Vance Canada

ROTARY MEANS BUSINESS RMB MISSION STATEMENT

“Rotary Means Business encourages Rotarians to support the success of their fellow

Rotarians by doing business with them, and by referring others to them”.

"If any one tells you that it is reprehensible to make a dollar or two for the wife and babies

from club associates in straightforward business transactions, tell that person that some

foreign substance has gotten into his carburettor." Paul P Harris (January 1911)

We now have enough interested members to start the D9700 Committee for the D9700 Chapter of

Rotary Means Business. I will keep you posted and if any of you want to serve on the committee

please let us know, thanks.

There are policies and procedures to follow and all of these are well detailed on the Rotary Means

Business web site below:

H. MURRUMBURRAH-HARDEN GUEST POET

“Tonight we were entertained by guest speaker Ted Webber, Bush Poet performer from Young.

Ted became passionate about poetry in his 60's when he visited Jindabyne Folk Festival and was entertained around a campfire by poet performer Frank Daniels. This performance inspired Ted to pen

his first poem, titled "The Old Farm Ute".

Ted has travelled to many locations to share his love of poetry, even being invited to the National Art

Gallery to perform. Ted wishes to share this love of poetry with all primary school children in the

Hilltops region by way of a travelling workshop experience he is planning for late 2019.

Ted delighted the club with poetry performances including "Old Master" by CJ Dennis, "In the Stable"

by Banjo Paterson and his very own "The Old Farm Ute"”. Murrumburrah-Harden RC

“The RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) – Road Safety Education Program was held at Mount

Panorama on Wednesday May 8. A small group of students accompanied by Miss McTrustry were both

confronted and challenged by the statistics and activities during the day.

Evie Eggins said she was “Shocked by some of the statistics, such as how P-plate drivers having

passengers in the car quadruples the chance of having an accident.” Interactive sessions and practical

demonstrations (e.g. braking distance) made it a valuable experience for our students. Thanks go to

the Rotary club for their support”. Oberon RC.

The Judge said: “It documents the flow of humanity experiencing the Pandharpur Wari pilgrimage and

shows the architecture of this Indian site, the vibrancy of its storefronts. I also like that the
