Monday 8th June “HERE AT THE POND” POEM

AFTER READINGIn your blue English books answer these comprehension questions:• What is the title of the poem?• What is the water like at the pond?• How does the fish swim?• What animals are described in the second verse?• What word rhymes with the word “best”?• When will everything take a rest?

Challenge: write down all pairs of rhyming words from the poem

What is Raksha Bandhan?

Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival, usually celebrated in August.

Raksha Bandhan is also known as Rakhi.

It celebrates and strengthens the bond of love between brothers and sisters.

Traditions of Raksha Bandhan

The Rakhi symbolises protection from evil.

Red and gold threads are popular Rakhi colours and some bracelets also have beads and jewels on them.

Brothers and sisters face each other.

The sisters tie a Rakhi (bracelet) made from coloured cotton or silk around their brother’s wrist.

Traditions of Raksha BandhanThe brothers then offer their sisters gifts and may also feed them with sweets.

Brothers and sisters often hug and then families usually continue the celebration.

The sisters then feed sweets to their brothers, using their hands.

Make or draw a band for a brother in your family or a cousin.
