ECHOES

I hope this note finds all of our members safe and sound. As we approach nine plus weeks of quarantine I'm starting to see cracks in the shell that surrounds us. Little cracks of light shining through what seems to be an endless void in our lives. Good news on the fighting front of this Covid 19 pandemic is showing us that life can go on even with the difficulties thatit presents. Hospitals are seeing fewer and fewer new cases and more and more people are being released after a lengthy stay.

Yes, for some its been tragic and yes we all feel for the ones we havelost, whether It would be a family member, friend or a casual acquaintance. I would hope that we will remember them in better times and places.

People are returning to work, food stores are getting better stocked and I still don't understand the toilet paper issue. More and more things are becoming available to all of us on a daily basis.

I'm happy to say that our ladies are into their sixth week of providing food for the Arc of Somerset and willing to assist in any waypossible.

Elks charities have provided more funding to help continue this great cause and also provided funding to assist the county food bank. Around the lodge things are happening too.

This past Memorial Day weekend we got together and and placed flags around our lodge to support the memory of our past veterans.

The process of painting our lodge has started and will continue with the help of our lodge brothers and sisters. We will need volunteers to

help, so if you’re willing to help, stop down or give us a call. We needall the help we can get. We will be working on some type of scheduleto make this process a little easier. Thank You in Advance.

We are still unsure of when we will be able to open up our doors again, the future still holds many unforeseen times. But I feel it will bemore sooner then later that we will back together.

Just a few more things. Pool status is unfortunately unknown at this time. The sewer project should be underway shortly as we have passed all the hurtles in our way.

One of our members has recently tested positive with covid 19 and isin self quarantine with very mild symptoms. Steph we love and miss you, feel better, are prayers are with you. Happy Birthday Steph.

Also folks, we have a guest at the lodge. A traveling nurse from South Carolina, working in Edison with Covid 19 patients lost his housing and purchased a small camper and is using one of our hookups for a month. His name is Chris so please feel free to say hi and welcome him with our Elk hospitality.

As reported last month, we started cooking meals for group homes of The Arc of Somerset.

Initially we committed to 4 weeks of meals. Last week was our 7th week of delivering full dinners to at least 25 residence in the group homes. We also supplemented the meals with homemade soups and chicken wings, rolls and extra desserts that were more appropriate for lunch style meals.

We are trying to set up a "meet and greet" zoom meeting so we can say hello to some of the residents. But we did receive pictures of several "thank you cards" they created for the Elks Ladies. After seven weeks we have decided to put the delivery of meals on hold. The Arc is very

appreciative of our 7 weeks of delicious and great homemade food when the group homes needed it the most.

Last week Kim DeVizio and I went to Costco to purchase food for the Food Bank of Somerset County. Our Charity Fund account gave us $250.00 and Bridget Horn gave an additional $100.00.

Are you interested in helping out? If so, contact me [email protected] or 732-319-9734.

It’s encouraging to see that people are still keeping busy around the lodge, donating their time to careof the property and with community service projects.

Each month I reach out by email and text-messaging to all committee chairs, officers, directors and PERs asking for articles for the next bulletin. Three officers respond regularly. Please let me know what can I do to make it easier for you all to send me news to report – there seems to be a lot to talk about at lodge meetings that never makes it to me. here is some information not reported elsewhere in this month’s bulletin:

• From David Lewis, ER: “Sewer is close to a full go, very soon.”• From Danny Larsen, DDDGER and PER: “We have submitted the NJEPA permit to the Federal EPA for

the waiver to commence we should be good to go by end of May if not before. Fingers crossed”• From Paul Lowell, Secretary and PER: We’ve been invited to support the Lyndhurst Elks Lodge #1505

Annual Golf Outing, on September 21 at Hendrick’s Field Golf Course in Belleville, NJ.◦ Online Payments: https://lyndhurstelks1505.wixsite.com/1505/dues-donations◦ To save some printing costs, I’ve uploaded their flyers to our website – you can get them at the

• From Francis Bellew, PER and chair of 5 committees: “Thank you to Rich Van Jackle, Paul Staeger, and John Pizzigoni for waxing the bar floor. They did a great job.”

And many thanks to Esteemed Leading Knight Kathleen Olesen for sending me photos of all the events she has visited.
