West Bend Community Memorial Library June 2020 Newsletter OUR SUMMER READING PROGRAM BEGINS JUNE 15! This summer the West Bend Community Memorial Library has not just a Summer Reading Program for you, but a Summer LEARNING Program! Our Summer Learning Program begins June 15! The theme is "Imagine Your Story" and each week will focus on a folk or fairy tale. Our summer programming will definitely look different this year due to COVID- 19, but rest assured, the youth librarians have been hard at work making this summer's programming turn virtual! The goals of our Summer Learning Program are to motivate children to read, help children develop positive attitudes about reading, and maintain their reading skills during summer vacation. The library wants to provide access to experiences that further a sense of discovery in children. Our program is 7 weeks and each week will feature a guessing contest, a writing contest, and a Lego challenge focused on a folk tale theme. We will offer storytimes via Zoom™ and offer activity bags to-go for all ages (preschool through teens). We have a brand new logging software called Beanstack™ that will allow children and adults to log their reading minutes and complete challenges online for badges. Of course we will have paper reading records for families with no or intermittent internet access. We will have 5
