In May we celebrated

our Mothers and in June we

celebrate our Fathers!

When I think of

Father's Day, it reminds me of

my Dad, who passed away in

2012. He was my life, my

strength, and my sounding

board. When he passed away,

my heart broke. Eventually I ended

up in the cardiac unit, where I realized that I

could not and would not bring him back. I had to

live my life and make him proud, as if he were

still here with me.

My Father was not, however, perfect. I

was also not a perfect daughter. This we knew,

but we loved each other enough to give grace to

make mistakes without judgment, to frustrate

without anger, and to disappoint without

permanent damage. This love is not easy and

does not come naturally, but this is the kind of

love God has for you.

Jeremiah 31:3 reminds us that God loves

us with an everlasting love and draws us to

himself with unfailing kindness. No matter what

we do, no matter how we fail, no matter what

happens, nothing can separate us from the love of

God. Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome and

Happy Father’s Day

assured them, "For I am

convinced that neither death nor

life, neither angels nor demons,

neither the present nor the future,

nor any powers, neither height

nor depth, nor anything else in all

creation, will be able to separate

us from the love of God that is in

Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans

8:38–39). As for me, I am

convinced that no sin, no mistake, no

pain, no failure, no fault, no stupid decision, and

no mental, physical, or spiritual handicap will be

able to separate us from the love of God that is in

Christ Jesus our Lord. God loves us and we are

his children.

No matter how you come into Father's Day,

with celebration or pain, I encourage you to seek

the goodness of God. God is the perfect parent.

God, our creator is a good, good Father. We can

trust him and depend on him. He will protect us

and provide for us. He knows how to love us

unconditionally. As you do this, ask God to help

you thank and encourage Fathers who are doing

the best they can to be the Dads that God calls

them to be.

Happy Father's Day!

Everyone is welcome!

Synopsis:

On a winter night in 1964, Dr. David Henry

is forced by a blizzard to deliver his own twins.

His son, born first, is perfectly healthy. Yet

when his daughter is born, he immediately sees

that she has Down's Syndrome. Rationalizing it

as a need to protect Norah, his wife, he makes a

split-second decision that will alter all of their

lives forever. He asks his nurse to take the baby

away to an institution and never to reveal the

secret. But Caroline, the nurse, cannot leave the

infant. Instead, she disappears into another city

to raise the child herself.

So begins this story that unfolds over a

quarter of a century in which these two

families, ignorant of each other, are yet bound

by the fateful decision made that long-ago

winter night. Norah

Henry, who knows only

that her daughter died at

b i r t h , r e m a i n s

inconsolable; her grief

weighs heavily on their

marriage. And Paul, their

son, raises himself as

best he can, in a house

g r o w n c o l d w i t h

mourning. Meanwhile,

P h o e b e , t h e l o s t

daughter, grows from a sunny child to a vibrant

young woman whose mother loves her as

fiercely as if she were her own.

Meet Corey & Erin Hagerman

NUMC recently hired Corey

Hagerman as Custodian, and he is doing

an amazing job keeping our church clean.

His dedication and attention to detail is

outstanding. Let him know what a great

job he is doing!

Corey’s wife,

Erin, has volunteered,

and is helping Pastor

Jenni with decorations

on the altar table.

Her creativity is

wonderfully refreshing

and new.

Thank you, Corey and Erin, for your

service!

Shoes, Shoes and More Shoes

All of the shoes were loaded into

the tractor trailer and sent on their

way to helping others!

Thank you again to everyone who

helped with this project, and special

thanks goes to Nancy Stockholm for

supervising everything! Nice job!
