Prairie Christian Academy Newsletter And so we move into June. It has been a great year here at PCA as we joined the whole school together under one roof. God has blessed us so greatly. Spring has brought the close to our track season with some great finishes. We have had many athletes with new personal bests and successful divisional and zone meets, along with one athlete going to pro- vincials this weekend. The grade 7 class had a great time at Blue Bronna (as they always do) and we got to see the Music Makers with a fantastic performance to both stu- dents and parents. The future is bright for fine arts at PCA judging by the talent in this group. Finally, the grade 12 class is closing out the month with their annual grad rafting trip today. I have the pleasure of ac- companying the trip and am really looking forward to it. It will come as no sur- prise that June will be a busy month as it always is. We start off with our grade 9 biking trip in Drumheller next week, and this trip will be fol- lowed shortly by year end trips from our grade 1-6 classes and the junior high trip. The grade 1 class is going to Discov- ery Park in Innisfail on June 16; Grade 2 is head- ing to Markerville on June 13; Grade 3 is traveling to the Atlas Coal Mine on June 22 (and I get to go on this one YAY!!); Grade 4/5 heads to the Telus Spark Science Centre on June 23 and Grade 6 vis- its the Calgary Zoo on June 8. The Junior High classes are changing things up a bit this year and going to Circle Square Ranch on June 19 as their year end trip. What an exciting time for our kids. Of course, with the end of the year also comes final exams. Our grade 6 and 9 PATs started up in mid-May with the first part of their LA test, and the other 4 exams will be in the third (grade 6) and last (grade 9) weeks of June. Read with a Child!

As we approach the end of the school year, we need to complete the an-

nual library inventory. In order to do this, all library books must be ac-

counted for. Please make sure that all books are returned by June 9th

or if the book is lost, come in and pay the replacement cost of the book.

After June 20th, any outstanding fines or unreturned books, will be

charged to your school account. Thanks for helping us to maintain our

library and at the same time help our students develop a sense of re-

sponsibility.

Newsletter June, 2017

The month of May saw the start and finish of our track season at PCA. From grades 7 - 12 we had 58 athletes participate on our track team!

The Jr. high had 3 track meets with our school track meet happening down at Three Hills School on the 17th, the divisional meet in Linden on the 25th and we also had 18 athletes qualify for the zone meet on the 31st! Zones went extremely well with many personal bests achieved by our athletes.

The Sr. high season is technically still going on as we had 6 athletes qualify for zones on the 23rd. From that we had one ath-lete who qualified for provincials in two different events! She will compete in Edmonton on the 2nd & 3rd of June.

The end of track and field provincials marks the end of our sports season for Sabres Athletics and we would love to celebrate the year of high accomplishments by our students by having our annual athletics dessert awards night! It will be a great even-ing of celebrating the extremely full and successful year we have had in athletics the past 10 months in our brand new gym! Things will kick off at 6:30 here at the PCA Gym on June 12th. Feel free to bring a dessert or plate of squares to share as we celebrate our athlete’s hard work, dedication, skill and Christ-like attitudes on and off the court this past season!

PCA Society Seeks Parental Partners

When Alberta Education announced the PCA Modernization project, the PCA So-

ciety stepped out in faith with a $1,000,000 commitment to enhance the new build-

ing with a larger gym, chapel/fine arts space and two additional classrooms. The

work is done, we are in our wonderful new school and half the money has been

raised. The Society is working to pay down the remaining $500,000 owing to Gold-

en Hills School Division. Towards this goal, all PCA families will be contacted and

asked to consider partnering with the Society over the next few years to accelerate

the retirement of this obligation. All donations for this goal are tax deductible.

For more information, you can contact Floyd Cotton by email at

[email protected] or by voice and text at 403-443-8185. Thanks a bunch!

Scripture Memory Challenge for Elementary Students

Believing Scripture memorization to be very important and wanting to reinforce the

passages that have been learned this year, any Elementary student who can say all 8 pas-

sages with a 90% average in each one will receive a Scripture Memory medal

on Awards Day. These passages may be said to Miss Lockhart during the week

of June 12 to 16. The study sheet for these passages can be picked up in each

classroom.

Elementary Fun Field Day

We are looking forward to our Fun and Field day this year. This is an annual event for all Grade 1 to 6 students.

As in the past, your entire family is welcome to come and watch the PCA students participate in a variety of fun activities and field events and to enjoy lunch together.

Please go to School Cash On Line to order hot dogs for your family if you would like. Hot dogs are $1.25 each. You will find the option to order under all of your children’s names but you only need to order through one of your children. The item will not disappear until after the due date, so just like Pizza lunch orders, please check the payment history tab if you forget whether or not you have made an order already. Please order BEFORE June 4h so we have time to make our order at IGA. See you there!

As in past years, we ask that ALL families please bring 1 dozen cookies for the kids to snack on during their break time from their events.

Secondary students are welcome to order hot dogs thru SCO as well.

They can pick them up from the concession window on the 9th

SABRES ATHLETIC

BANQUET

Plans are underway for the 14th Annual Prairie Christian Academy Sabres Athletic Banquet/Fundraiser to be held September 30, 2017. This banquet raises funds mainly for the on-going ath-letic program at Prairie Christian Academy, but additionally, has provided the funds to purchase the Sabres 24-passenger bus, which is not only used by the various Sabres Teams, but is available to and utilized by the entire school for field trips and dorm trips. Although the date seems far away, the Athletic Banquet Planning Committee would like to remind you of the ways in which you could be of assistance right now.

1) If you own a business and have not had the opportunity to sponsor the event and/or advertise at the Sabres Athletic Banquet before, contact one of the Committee Members if you are interested.

2) Let the Committee know if you have an item or items that you would like to donate for the live or silent auction, or for door prizes.

3) Volunteer to help with the banquet/fundraiser. You do not have to be a parent of an athlete to give assistance!! Re-member, the whole school benefits from the monies raised at this event. Please contact the Athletic Director.

4) The PCA alumni directory continues to grow and we are confident that the PCA family possesses names and ad-dresses of alumni that we are missing. Please encourage your alumni friends and family to contact PCAS with their up-dated information for our files. (Also, invite them to the Alumni Games and Banquet!)

Thank you for considering our requests. Please mark September 30th on your calendar. We are looking forward to an-other entertaining and successful evening!

The Sabres Parent Committee Members are:

Transportation With the end of the 2016-17 school year approaching quickly, the

transportation department is busy planning next years’ bus routes.

Registration for transportation for 2017-18 school year is now

open.

The deadline for registration for the 2017-18 school year is

June 15, 2017

Registration must be competed on line at www.ghsd75.ca

Registrations received AFTER June 15, 2017 could result in a

delay getting your child on the bus.

For late registrations please allow 5 working days for us to get

your child on a bus and for you to hear from the driver, bear-

ing in mind space and priority order.

Once your registration is received and is being processed, you

will receive an email confirmation.

Your bus driver will call to confirm the stop time and location

between August 22 and 31, 2017.

Everyone who attends PCA and uses bussing MUST register their

children for bussing. Please go to the GHSD website (above) and

click on the transportation link (look for the bus clipart) Because

the Three Hills School is officially the ‘Designated School’ for all

Three Hills residents, PCA is a ‘School of Choice’ and therefore

bus registration is required. (See the Flow Chart on the above transporta-

tion link)
