A Faithful GoodbyeDear Friends,

Thank you for the blessing of serving on your pastoral staff. It has been a good five years- a very good five years in terms of my growth in ministry, and in terms of my family’s growth and well-being. I’m leaving for FUMC Blytheville (an exceptional appointment!) with abilities I didn’t have when I came here. To a large degree, I have you to thank! My faithful friends, you have embraced my family and helped me to grow.

It’s time for my family to say “Goodbye.” And I mean “Goodbye” in the full sense of the word, with a meaning almost forgotten today. “Goodbye” is the shortened version of the phrase “God be with ye.” God will be with you, in the leadership of Rev. David Moseley, in the talented Rev. Bill Sardin, in Rev. Teresa Holt and other staff friends, and in the community of faith that has blessed me tremendously.

I look forward to watching God bless your future. I’m confident that the best is yet to come. And I’m honored to call you friends.

Zach, Beth, John, and Lauren

Did you know there’s an easy way to donate to the church on a regular basis? Monthly automatic drafts can be made from your checking account directly to the church’s operating and/or building fund. With the summer vacation season approaching, this is a great way to consistently give to the church even while you’re away from home! If you would like more information about this easy and convenient process, please contact Cyndee Metcalf, Business Administrator, at (501) 623-6668.

Getting Ahead MinistryA big thank you to First United Methodist Church! Because of your individual, small group, corporate, and Dollars for Mission (loose $1 bills in Sunday’s offering plate), you have funded Getting Ahead classes through Spring 2018! Because of your generosity, many more people in our community will be able to get the support and education to make a better life for themselves and their families. But, we need much more! We still need your support through volunteer service.• Facilitators willing to attend the class in the Fall and co-facilitate in the Spring. • Mentors willing to attend a mentor training (3 hours) and develop a relationship and support a Getting Ahead participant.

Contact Rev. Teresa Holt to volunteer at [email protected]!

Samaritan’s Purse - Operation Christmas ChildThis year we are going to get an early start on Samaritan’s Purse—Operation Christmas Child by collecting items year round to fill shoe boxes for the children that will be receiving these next Christmas all around the world. This past year, 2016, OCC collected 11,485,662 shoebox gifts that were distributed. Operation Christmas Child brings good news and great joy to the children. What goes into a shoebox is fun but what comes out is eternal. You can have a role in reaching millions of children with God’s love by supporting this project of Samaritan’s Purse.

We have participated in this project for many years, but this year we are making this a family church wide mission for everyone to get involved. Each month we will be gathering donations of different items to fit into these shoeboxes. Each shoebox cost $10 for packaging and shipping. Our goal is to raise $4700 to ship 500 boxes. If you would like to donate money for this, please make your check to FUMC and mark Operation Christmas Child. Below is the schedule, June through November, for our monthly collections. Each month we will be collecting items that will go in these shoeboxes that are no bigger than 8 ½ “X 11 ½ “X 4”. Make plans to join us each month and support this church wide mission. Remember all items have to fit into a shoebox. • JUNE: Girls and boys underwear and socks• JULY: Small toys• AUGUST: School supplies• SEPTEMBER: Small puzzles or games• OCTOBER: Hats, gloves and scarves• NOVEMBER 12: Pack Shoebox Night

Beginning in June, we will host a monthly Sunday Night Live Game and Family Fellowship Night through November from 5:00 - 7:00 pm in the Christian Life Center. We’re also getting a head start on this year’s Operation Christmas Child. Your admission to each Sunday Night Live event will be supplies for the Christmas Child shoeboxes. In November, we will host a packing night to pack all of the supplies we’ve gathered throughout the year into shoeboxes for children to receive as Christmas presents in December.

Dinner & A MovieJoin us on Thursday, June 15 at 4:30 pm for Dinner and a Movie! We will be watching Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock.

This is a story that unfolds from inside the mind of Oskar Schell, an inventive eleven-year-old New Yorker whose discovery of a key in the belongings of his father, who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11, sets him off on an urgent search for the lock it opens. As Oskar’s quest takes him across the city, he encounters an eclectic assortment of people-survivors in their own way-who help uncover links to his father, preserving a connection to the man who helped Oskar confront his fears about the noisy, dangerous world around him.

Call Candy Poirier at (501) 623-6668 ext. 117 to RSVP. Cost for the meal is $5.
