NEXT CLUB MEETING WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY THE 13TH OF JULY, AT OUR MEETING PLACE AT BOX HILL ART AND COMMUNITY CENTRE IN STATION STREET BOX HILL. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE

From Seymour to Nagambie to Lake Nillahcootie. Ended up being a bit of a challenge and a hasty relocation of the flyday, to find a place where we could be sure we could launch the hovers, especially the Hover Flyer, but at Nillahcootie the long boat ramp was always going to be useful if worse came to worse, but the lake being at 40% should ensure we could have some good fly time as long as weather was kind, and that it was. Cool but calm and some sunshine made for a good day out for a 6 hour return trip and 10 hours for Ron and Dianne. Well done people. Had we chosen Bonnie Doon, we would have been in for a dry run, as the water was at 0% under the bridge and as far you could see. Arriving at Nillahcootie at around 11 am we discovered that the water was indeed low. Ron decided it would probably be a good option unloading at the bottom of the boat ramp, after having endured some nervous starting problems. Meanwhile HV 72 was unloaded and after a few 360's from the top and down the embankment, hit the water for a quick flight. On return, Peter Streader and Paul Westinde with friend Paul had arrived.

After a quick flight from Peter and Paul it was close enough to lunch time before venturing out on the lake and up the river trip. Lunch over and done with, a trip was on toward the far end of the lake. Arriving at the far end of the lake and flying on the green lake bed, it was soon discovered that the river was 10 feet lower. A detour was made to enter the river.

Having travelled a fair distance up the river, with Ron handling his craft like he had spent all his life negating obstacles on a narrow river. As we got to a fallen tree partially blocking the river, Peter discovered that he had some major skirt damage and had some doubt if the Red Baron would fly the distance back, but as it turned out, with the aid of a counter balancing act by Peter, all went well, and all craft returned under their own power. After a failed attempt by Peter to repair the damage, and with the wind now a COLD breeze and a couple of small trips later. It was decided to call it a day. As we were loading up at the top of the boat ramp a few locals had heard the hovers and arrived to check them out. Paul Westinde , being the perfect gentleman, offered a ride to the two local ladies. and in true style did a kamikaze trip nose first down the long boat ramp, and to our amazement avoided a major plough in.! Well done Paul. I'm sure the lady who was celebrating her birthday, will always remember this one. By this time it was getting toward 4 pm and given the long drive home, it was time to say " adios amigos" and head for home. Was a good day for a winters fly day. Thanks to Ron&Di and Peter for supplying pictures

RELOCATION OF THE VICTORIAN BRANCH OF THE AUSTRALIAN HOVERCRAFT FEDERATION

As has been mentioned over the last years the club has to relocate to the North Shore of the lake. It has finally been signed off by the La Trobe Valley City Council, as you will read below. I dare say it is a world first that a governing body has allocated development for a Hover craft Club and a great Thank You to Glenn Azlin and Tony Moretti who have spent many hours negotiating with the council, with at times some challenging items to be navigated. We still have some time left to enjoy our always well maintained current site, as access by normal vehicle will take some time to be finalized. I think it also deserves a mention that the west end of the lake is gazetted as hovercraft use only, and again I dare say , it’s a world first and only, as time goes, the facilitys at the new site will get better, but that is for another time. Cheers Ed
