Unfortunately, the Liberal and National Parties has not yet guaranteed funding for digital radio infra-
structure for the 37 metropolitan community stations. If this does not happen it does not bode well for
rural stations either. The budget is actually $1.4M short of what is needed. The CBAA campaign to get
the funding continues through until the federal election. Information for the campaign is located at
keepcommunityradio.com.au Please visit the website, promote it and sign the petition. Whilst online
you can also follow the new 4EB linkedIn Page and of course continue to invite friends to like the 4EB
facebook page.
Also, 4EB’s Winter Dinner Dance is coming soon!!! It is happening on Saturday 23 July at Marymac
Community Centre, 616 Ipswich Road, Annerley. The band on the night will be ‘The Cappuccinos’ and
will feature a male and a female vocalist. There will be a DJ on the night and dance performances will
include traditional Nepalese Dances and the Hellenic (Greek) Dancers. Tickets are $40 which includes all

The NEMBC RadioActive Youth Committee has you covered for all things ethnic youth broadcasting.
The NEMBC runs media based projects for young people from diverse communities around Australia.
We aim to foster the development and growth of young people from ethnic and multicultural back-

As the Queensland RadioActive representative my job is to represent you in the ethnic community

plemented for youth broadcasters in 4EB and in the NEMBC, I’m the one to contact. Feel free to email
me at any time: [email protected].

African Day Festival 2016 – Held on 14th May in Morningside at the African House
Africa Day is celebrated annually on the 25th May within the African continent to mark the formation of
the Organization of African Unity on the 25th May 1963 and the African Union in 2002 and the progress
made by the continent since then to advance democracy, peace, stability and socio-economic develop-
ment.
However, celebrations are also held by Africans in the diaspora. In Brisbane, Africa Day Festival has al-
ways brought Africans and the larger community to experience the rich and colorful African cultures.
Held this year under the theme, “Building a better Africa and a Better World”, the Africa Day took place
on the 14th of May 2016 in Morningside at the African House and the festival showcased African art,
clothing, dance, music and food, with activities for kids. There were also workshops on African drum-
ming and debating sessions taking place on the side.
Hosted by the Queensland African Communities Council (QACC), the President, Robert Mukombozi said
Africa Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the historic foundation of the African Union and to con-
tinue expressing it through the ongoing support for many in the continent who are caught up in conflict.
“It is a day for us to celebrate that solidarity, friendship, a common humanity and destiny”, said the
President.
The Festival goers enjoyed lunch at the food marquees, browsed the many stalls with African inspired
items. Then stayed for the fantastic traditional performances on stage.
The Africa Day lunch was attended by the Honorable Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance
Services Mr. Cameron Dick as well as MPs and other key stakeholders.
The event provided a wonderful opportunity that accommodated the African communities together to
celebrate the rich African cultures with each other and has transcended beyond the mainstream com-
munity in Brisbane.
