Activity NotificationsActivity notifications, such as notifying a GoldMine user when an activity has been scheduled for him will also be in the next build.

Login for wMobile Manager ConsoleIn the past, the Manager Console always required GoldMine authentication, meaning that you must log in with a GoldMine username and password. This requirement can now be configured in the System Settings, to allow login without the GoldMine username and password.

SQL Query Manager

• This topic got the most votes from the poll in our last wMobile online user group.

• The SQL Query Manager was added to wMobile Desktop in wMobile 3.0.

• It is available from the Tools menu.

Advantages of SQL queries

• You can build filters on data in the contact1 and contact2 tables (information on the top half of your GoldMine screen, under the fields tab, and on the Summary tab.)

• You can build SQL queries on these tables and on calendar, history, supplementary data etc. SQL queries are more flexible.

• You can export the results of SQL queries to Word or Excel.

SQL Manager

• A user can run existing SQL queries from the drop-down list.

• Use Run to activate the selected query.

Export

• Users will be able to export query results to CSV or Excel format.

• The Export option is dependent upon the user’s GoldMine ‘Output to’ menus security setting.

Create Queries

• Users can also type in or edit queries.

• Use Clear to clear the query text.

• Click Run to see the results listed.

SQL syntax

• The basic syntax of a SQL query is as follows.

SELECT [fields] FROM [tablename(s)]WHERE [condition(s)]

Data locations

• Custom fields are stored in the contact2 table.• Pending activities are stored in Cal.• Completed activities (history) are stored in

ContHist.• Details, email addresses, websites, secondary

contacts, etc are stored in ContSupp.

Table structure

• Contact1 is the main GoldMine table. • Custom fields are stored in Contact2.• Information in the other tables is linked based on the GoldMine

accountno, a unique identifier.• For example, let’s say you have a contact record for ABC Company.

The contact1 record will contain the company name, address info etc.

• Pending activities for that contact will be located in the Cal table and will have the same unique GoldMine accountno.

Table Relationships

• Queries on more than one table must include how they are related. In GoldMine they are related by the unique AccountNo.

• Each contact1 record will have a record in Contact2 with the same Accountno.

• There might be many records in ContHist with the same Accountno.

Activity RecTypes

• Cal and ContHist activities also use RecTypes.

• Details have a rectype of ‘P.’

• Many people get confused when building GoldMine filters or SQL queries when it comes to the use of parentheses and AND/OR clauses.

• 2+3*4-1 = • (2+3)*4-1 = • 2+3*(4-1)=

Record Type = CustomerANDState = NJOR State = NY

• If we add in parentheses, all of a sudden we know what to do first!

Using Parentheses

Record Type = CustomerAND(State = NJOR State = NY)

• A good rule of thumb is if you need to use OR and have more than 2 criteria, use parentheses!

Save Queries

• If you have edited or created a new query, click the Save button.

• You’ll have the choice of updating an existing query or saving it as a new query.

• Queries cannot be deleted in wMobile Desktop.

Restricting access to SQL

• If this tool will not be used, or your company’s security policy does not allow it, the SQL Query Manager can be disabled in the wMobile Manager Console.

• Select Desktop in the wMobile Explorer pane and then Addins Configuration.

• Uncheck the SQLManager AddIn and click on Save to save the change.
