Guests/Introductions/Prospective/ Members: Jack Hicks, belongs to silent electric club. Jarrod Pin,

silent electric member.

Safety:

• Be mindful of the fog, one plane was lost due to it.

Field Marshal:

• Nothing new this month. Field clean up will be this Saturday. George’s window on his truck was

broken by a rock, the club will look in to paying for it.

Old Business:

• The club has acquired a T-34 at the Leatherneck Museum to adopt. We will be doing routine basic

maintenance such as cleaning and keeping air in the tires. This Monday we will be at the museum

at 1700 to clean the T-34. They are bringing out a water buffalo for the job we just need bodies.

This will be good to keep up relations with the base. See the website for more information.

• The porta-potty purchase is on hold for the moment, more to come.

Events:

• Scale Fly in this weekend at the WeedWacker’s field, it would be good for the club to fly at other

clubs to get them to come out to ours.

• Cub Fly in, Saturday June 8th

• June 1 Gillespie Field Model Show

• Pylon racing 6/16, 9/15.

• Rotors over Miramar July 13-14, we are not looking to add night flying or camping this year. We

do not want to raise any concerns with the base at this time.

• July 27 Flights of Fancy

• Pattern Contest in August

• Aug 24-25 E-fest at Aliant university. Indoor and outdoor, partially at MRCF.

• Oct 11-13 All electric heli events at SDSEF.

• Nov 9 Veterans Day fly in.

• Dec 12 Toys for tots.

Lease Update: The board and task group met, Darren also met with the leasing office at the base. What

we have learned is that we have never ever had an actual lease. We have had a license to operate.

Presently, a lease is an agreement for non-military operations. With the lease comes the ability to bid on

the lease. With that you hold insurance and pay fair market value. We are not technically a military

organization. Technically we would have to have a lease. We occupy about two acres of land, costing

about $30k per year. The leasing office said that we should seek a sponsor, i.e. MWR/MCCS to give us a

license. For 26 years the base has allowed us to be here without protocol to the base. When she asked

what we are trying to do, we said we want to be legal so we can’t be kicked off. Her response was that we

haven’t been legal for a year, because she hasn’t submitted the lease. Her response was to leave it alone

and to continue to operate. Our response is to continue operating until the Marine Corps tells us we can’t

be there. Darren and Frank are planning to meet and greet with the CO to establish what we do. With this,

our future will be a little unstable. The only thing that a lease really gets us is more notice that we are

being kicked out. We need to be very careful to not have problems at the field. This means that we need to

open and close the field, not lose airplanes, make sure we have communications with the base, etc. Be

vigilant, we do not need negative attention. We will be looking into a better PA system for the phone.

New Business:

• Bob Mosley took it upon himself to manufacture a beautiful new test stand for the field. The stand

itself is already mounted at the field. There are two mounts, one is for beam-mounted engines the

other is for face mounted gas engines. Will accommodate anywhere from an .049 to a 200CC gas

engine. There is a box of hardware under the stand. Mark donated a mount, Jerry donated some

stand offs. Bob suggested that the mounts be left at the field for peoples use. He suggested that

there be a sign off sheet in the tool shed for people to check out the mount bases and take them

home to set them up. Bob’s intent is to make the mounts easily accessible to the club. The club

thanks and encourages this kind of improvements. Each one of us has a specialty to be shared.

Thank you Bob for all of the hard work. Mark and Bob are also working on a joystick/throttle set

up so you do not have to manage it by hand.

• July kids event: Curtis is looking for prize donations.

• RCX Long Beach Convention Center Events is looking for volunteers in Long Beach with free

entry and lodging, see Frank for Details. June 1-2.

• Tom Pham has shirts available to be ordered with the clubs logo. Please see him for details.

• Our field grant was approved, thank you to Jerry N. It is in the AMA news, which gave us

approximately $800 for our runway.

Show and Tell:

• Don Rice: Completed Top Flight Giant Scale P-47 Razorback. This was a 5-month project. Frank

did some detailing. There are about 400 hours in the finish work. All of the panels and rivets are

scale. Zenoah g-62, 11 servos, Robart retracts.

• Frank- Float Flyers: Multiplex Mentor $139 + $40 for floats. Easy build/easy flying plane. Ace 4-

90 on floats. Came from a Don Madison estate sale. Maxford floats. First flight hooked a float and

turned the original float mounts in to a pretzel. Frank went to McMaster Carr and ordered 1/8”

aluminum to make new mounts. OS .91 4 Stroke.

• Jack: Gusman P-51 combat model. NA 73X protype. Pilots head turns with the rudder.

Meeting Adjourned: 2025
