One Big Family – ASSIST the World Around
The Sun Family - host to Clara Jenderek, Albuquerque Academy (NM) ’12, Germany
There are no words in any language that can express the joy Clara has brought to our family. She is part of our family now and forever. The expression in this photograph of her host siblings says it all. Thank you ASSIST for making our experience possible.
An Vo, Brentwood School ’07, Vietnam; Mt. Holyoke College ’12; a wedding photo with her family and her host family, The Booths I am sincere in saying that the ASSIST year changed my life and it did so significantly. I have built a bond that I will treasure for the rest of my life. How many families in the whole world would take in a girl from a completely different country and treat her as their own daughter, their own sibling. I was very fortunate.

THANK YOU ASSIST! We never could have imagined the wonderful time ahead when we agreed to have Saskia (Maumee Valley Country Day School ’12, Spain) join our family for the year! We have shared so many adventures and have learned so much from her - not only about her home culture, but also about what it means for friends and family to share in life's experiences so deeply. What a gift this year has been to all of us!
You made this wonderful year and pure happiness possible for me. Ulrike, St. Luke’s School (CT), Germany
My memories are like diamonds to me that I can keep forever. Cluny, Episcopal Academy (PA), Australia
This year I had the unique chance to find myself and grow in an amazing environment with remarkable people. Basak, The Ethel Walker School (CT), Turkey
During these 9 months I have learned how to take chances and see new opportunities. Emilia, Emma Willard School (NY), Sweden
We all came as internationals to the U.S. but when you think about it we return home as internationals. Thank you ASSIST for making all of this possible! Jessica, Hebron Academy (MA), Germany

ASSIST ALUMNI Volunteer Opportunities
Sixteen D.C. ASSIST Scholars (and their teachers) enjoyed a day-long seminar on foreign policy at the prestigious Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington D.C. It was an extraordinary opportunity for the students to sharpen their own leadership thinking. The day’s
theme, Foreign Policy for the Future: What the Millennial Generation Will Bring, was a perfect fit for ASSIST Scholars and classmates who envision themselves as young leaders on the world stage in years to come. The Washington, DC, Area ASSIST chapter co-sponsored the event with CSIS, and special thanks go to those DC-area schools who sent Scholars and representatives: The Bullis School, Episcopal High School, Landon School, The Maret School, National Cathedral School, The Potomac School, St. Alban’s School, St. Christopher’s School, St. Timothy’s School, and Washington International School.
