  • PASSING ON

    ROYCE CHARLES BROWER 9/18/1918 – 04/03/2009

At just after midnight, this morning, at age 90, Royce went to sleep. He was a life member of the National Field Archery Association, the Florida Archery Association and Citrus County Archers. Royce earned almost every recognition available in archery. He was a member of the Florida Archery Association Hall of Fame for his athletic ability and received the prestigious Dillard Bucklen Award for his constant support of archery at the local and state level. He brought members to our sport, and was always willing to help with work needed. In 1976 he was NFAA Senior Male Freestyle Champion back when Senior Division was a courtesy separation, and then in 1996 he brought home an NFAA Silver Bowl as Champion Senior Male Olympic Compound. He was several times Sectional Champion and many times over Florida State Champion. At one time in his career Royce held 16 state record scores. Royce was a real believer in the Senior Olympics and attended the National Event whenever he could. In 1995 he was 75+ Male Compound Release Champion and his 1665 score is still the fourth high overall score for that age group. His 812 individual round in 1999 at Disney is the second high score for that age group still, and his 1599 total still remains 4th on the records list for 80+. Royce was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes R. Daly Brower, two daughters, Edith Jaclyn Brower Polcari and Janice Brower Clark, as well as a granddaughter, Rebecca Christine Brower Littlefield. He is survived by his daughter, Delia Marie Walsh (her husband, Ed) of Middletown, N. Y.; Son, Royce David Brower (wife, Val) of Ocala; son, Paul Berthold Brower (wife) Jennifer Levine) of Middletown, N.Y., and son Peter Thomas Brower of Leesburg; and Dorothy Hageman, Royce’s Lovely companion. He had eleven grandchildren and eleven Great-grandchildren.

  • FAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING Ft Lauderdale Archer Range, Ft Lauderdale, FL – 21 February 2009

Tully Gym, Tallahassee, FL – 7 March 2009 Everglades Archery Range, Homestead, FL – 4 April 2009

    1. The FAA Board of Directors met at both Indoor Sites and then at the FAA International Championship at Homestead. The President and Secretary were present at all three locations. At Ft Lauderdale, South VP and NAA Rep were present. At Tallahassee, Central VP, Northwest VP, and Release Editor were present. At Homestead at the International, NAA Rep, Central VP were present. Northwest and South VP’s provided voting preferences by mail. 2. The treasurer’s report was accepted unanimously. CLOSED 3. The minutes of the October Board of Directors Meeting were accepted unanimously. CLOSED 4. NAA Report was accepted as presented. CLOSED 5 NFAA Report was accepted as presented. CLOSED 6. ELIMINATE FAA EXECUTIVE SENIOR DIVISION: Secretary moved to delete the FAA only Executive Senior Division. (The division was started in Florida about six months before NFAA added the Master Senior Division. While our Executive Senior Division requires the shooter to shoot a shorter round, it also creates an extra division only 5 years older than Master Senior. Those old enough to shoot Executive Senior, 70+, almost always shoot Master Senior to shoot the full course. Nothing stops an individual from not completing the course other than lack of an award.) South seconded. Yes – South, Secretary, Central, President. OPEN FOR SECOND READING. 7. A motion to change the NAA State Indoor to a single round was defeated.

    - Signed- Timothy O. Austin, Secretary

  • 2009 FAA FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

23-24 May 2009 – Gator Bowmen – Gainesville, Florida Instructions on Saturday were to start the Animal at the end of the Field and eat later to avoid the thunder showers expected at about 2:30. Those who followed instructions came in within 5 minutes of the start of afternoon rains… some had to go back out in the rain to finish because they hadn’t headed directions or they weren’t listening. Sunday was clear and overcast. Shooting conditions were surprisingly optimal and the Combined State (71 shooters) and Sectional (Florida portion at 42 shooters) combined for 73 archers on the range. The Gainesville Sports Commission handled food for the event and arranged for lodging.
