SUMMER READING PROGRAM GUIDELINES
1. Childrenwillsettheirowngoalfortheamountoftimetheywanttospendreadingduringthesummer.Theminimumis10minutesadayandthesuggestedmaximumis1hourperday.Oncethechildrenreachtheirgoaltheyarewelcometocontinuereading.
2. Childrenmayreadbooks(theirownorthelibrary’s),magazines,newspapers,orcomics.
3. Allchildrenwillreceiverewardsfortheirreadingprogressthroughouttheprogram.
4. Whenchildrenreachtheirgoal,theywillreceiveaFREEpaperbackbook(purchased with donations from Emerson Climate Technologies)andaSummerReadingProgram Certificate of completion.
5. Childrenarewelcometoreadpasttheirgoals.Theywillcontinuereceivingincentivesfortheirreading.
6. Childrenmayplaceamarkerwiththeirnameonitonthebackwallwhentheyreachtheirgoal.
7. Childrenmust havetheirReadingLogwiththemwhentheyarecheckingin.ItistheONLY record of the child’s reading progress. The final day to report reading progressisSaturday, July 21st.
PRESCHOOL/KINDERGARTEN STORYTIME SESSIONSAND FAMILY STORYTIMES
Storytimesessions,forchildrenfromatleast3yearsoldtothoseplanningtoattendkindergarteninthefall,areheldweekly.These30-minutesessionsarelimitedto25children.Checkthecalendarfordaysandtimes.
OnThursdayeveningswewillholdfamilystorytimesforpreschoolchildrenalongwiththeirparents.Siblingsarewelcometoattend.Parentsarerequiredtoremainwiththeirchildrenforthisprogram.Sessionswillincludestories,songs,fingerplays, games, and craft activities.
FIRST CHECK-IN DRAWING
Aspecialdrawingwillbeheldforchildrenchecking-intheirreadingprogressforthefirst time by June 23rd.FourticketstoaDragonsbaseballgamewillbeawardedtothewinner.
DROP-IN ACTIVITIES
Drop-inactivitiesareofferedthroughoutthesummer.Childrenareinvitedtocomeinfortheactivityanytimebetweenthehoursdesignated.Theseactivitiesmaybecompletedinashortamountoftime.Pleasecheckthecalendarfortheindividualactivitiesandtheirtime,date,andlocation.
ACTIVITY/CRAFT SESSIONS INFORMATION
• Incaseofinclementweather,checkwiththelibrary,492-8354,forthestatusofthescheduledprogram.
• Allcraftsessions,otherthandrop-inactivities,willbeginpromptlyatthedesignatedtime.Latecomerswillbeadmittedupto10minutesafterthesessionbegins.
• Parentsofyoungchildren,under7yearsofage,arerequestedtoremaininthelibraryduringthesessions.
• Gradelevelisdeterminedbywhichgradethechildwillbeenteringinthefall.Thereisnoregistrationforgradeschoolcraftsessions.Activitiesnormallylastfrom 45 minutes to an hour, unless otherwise specified.
• Familynightsessionsaredesignedfortheparticipationofadultsandchildren.
T-SHIRT SILK SCREENING
The week of June 11th,childrenmaybringat-shirt(clearlylabeledwiththeirname)tobesilk-screened.Lightcoloredshirtswithno pocketsworkbest.Thedesignpromotesthelibrary’ssummerprogramandreading.Theshirtswillbeready for pick-up the week of July 2nd.
BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
Children,ingrades5&6,areinvitedtotakepartinourbookdiscussiongroup.Wewillmeetfor6weeksoverlunchtodiscussthebookswe’rereading.Eachweekadifferentbookwillbediscussed.ThegroupwillmeetonThursdaysat11:30a.m.,exceptforthesecondweek,thegroupwillmeetonWednesday,noon–1:30p.m.Kidsshouldbringabrownbaglunch.We’llprovidethedrinkanddessert.ThoseinterestedshouldseeBonnietogetsignedup.REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED

Eachweek,we’llhaveaguessinggamewherechildrentrytoguesswherein Sidney our mascot is by the clues they find in the photo. Children may enter their answertothequestion,alongwiththeirname,address,andphonenumber.Onewinningentrywillbedrawnfromthecorrectresponses,eachweek,andaprizeawarded.
