Concerning TVH ConventionsT N this issue is a report of our recent4. Erie TVH Convention. Although theweather was severe, and the auditoriumwas located several miles out of town, the services grew in power and attend-ance each day. One pastor counted elevenin his own church that received the Bap-tism of the Holy Ghost.

Plans are under way for other conven-tions and rallies which will be held invarious parts of the country.

Aftermath of the Jack Coe TrialJoseph Lewis, president of the Free-

thinkers of America, who was the leadingspirit behind the prosecution of Jack Coein Miami, Florida, is still on the warpathin his fight against the ministry of de-liverance. Since the rebuff in Miami, theopposition has been licking its wounds, but now Mr. Lewis is sending out an ap-peal for funds to continue his fight againstEvangelist Jack Coe. In his appeal hesays:

"When I came to Florida this winter,a book on Robert G. Ingersoll.... Butwhat caused the greatest amount of com-ment was upon my attack upon preacherJack Coe, the "healing evangelist." JackBall, the famous columnist of the MiamiHerald, published my challenge to JackCoe, and in a half page advertisement, thepreacher refused to debate with me be-cause he said, by Biblical quotation (Rom.1:29-32) "Debaters go to hell." I thenfound a mother whose child was crippledby polio, who had visited preacher JackCoe's "healing" tent and she, firmly be-lieving that he had the power to cure herafflicted son, followed his advice, and re-moved the child's crutches and braceswhich, if continued, would have resultedin irreparable harm to the child. This, tome, was giving medical advice, and aftera great deal of effort on my part I soughtto have him brought before the Courts onthe grounds of practicing medicine with-out a license. I secured an affidavit fromthe motlier and a statement from an emi-nent physician. I presented this evidenceto the Court. A warrant was issued forthe arrest of Preacher Jack Coe, and hewas held in $5,000 bond. Although he was

discharged by the Police Justice, evidenceis now being prepared to be submittedto the Grand Jury for an indictment.

"I am anxious to employ a noted NewYork attorney to represent the Society, asa "friend of the court," in this case. Al-though I have already spent a considerablesum of money in gathering the evidenceon which Jack Coe was held, I considerit a privilege to contribute the first $100to this fund, in order to fight this caseto its proper conclusion.

This case has all the features of an-other Scopes Trial, and if we win it, itwill be the most significant victory wehave ever achieved against the forces ofignorance and religious supersitition.

"Life," "Time" and other national mag-azines have indicated coverage of thecase.

We need your help. Please be as gen-erous as you can. Thanks in advance foryour valuable cooperation.

Sincerely yours,Joseph Lewis, PresidentFreethinkers of America

Joseph Lewis, President,Freethinkers of America

370 West 35th Street,New York 1, N. Y.

I want to help all I can to fightto its proper conclusion the case againstPreacher Jack Coe for his fraudulent"healing" campaign and I am enclosingmy contribution for $

Our readers will see the danger in-volved to the healing message unless thosewho believe in this ministry stand to-gether. That was the reason that I, aswell as a number of leading TVH evan-gelists, went to Miami to stand withBrother Coe in the battle there. We real-ize that persecution is only getting underway. Evil men such as Joseph Lewis, whoare inspired by Satan, who having met ahumiliating defeat, will stop at nothingin seeking revenge.

TVH Now Publishing Hundreds ofThousands of Faith Books

On the front cover of our magazine thismonth, we show a number of the manytitles of faith books that are being pub-lished by THE VOICE OF HEALING.Literally hundreds of thousands of suchbooks are now rolling off of our presses.

TIM VOICE OF HEALINGJune. 19641 Vol. 9, No. 3

Gordan Lindsey, EditorErnest Rawlings, Aut. Editor

We feel that this is one of the most im-portant features of our world evangeliza-tion program. Nearly all the books foundin the average religious book store are notfaith books in the Bible sense. Sickpeople are usually advised to resign them-selves to sickness the supposed will ofGod, rather than to grasp the promises ofGod for healing. Our goal is to put mil-lions of faith books in circulation eachyear. To help us attain this end, we havejust purchased and installed another off-set pressone of the very latest design. As an example of its capacity it can printan equivalent of one thousand, 100-pagebooks per hour.

Installation of Our AdministrationAt the time of writing we are in the

process of installing our administration.THE VOICE OF HEALING plans forworld evangelization, includes five differ-ent administrations. First, THE VOICEOF HEALING. Second, printing depart-ment, third, publications, fourth, worldmissions, fifth, conventions. Over each ofthese departments, one of THE VOICEOF HEALING men will serve as an ad-ministrator. They will spend part of theirtime in Dallas, and part of the time onthe field. Brother W. V. Grant, since thefirst of the year, has been the administra-tor of the printing plant. Now RichardVinyard has taken over administrationof THE VOICE OF HEALING's generalbperations. L. D. Hall has taken chargeof setting up our conventions. THEVOICE OF HEALING is now engaged inputting into operation several new proj-ects for the advancement of world evan-gelization which are destined to have far-reaching effects.

Evangelization of SpainOur evangelists have already preached

in many countries of the world, reachingunprecedented numbers of people, yet inSpain a very needy field, the door has beenclosed to all such efforts. For that reasonTHE VOICE OF HEALING has under-taken a project during the past two yearsof broadcasting to the nation through apowerful radio station just a few milesfrom the Spanish border. Brother HughJeter, a missionary who has a strong heal-ing ministry, is carrying on this workwith increasing success. According to hisreports, many people in Spain are now

Many TVH Evangelistic Teams to GoOverseas Soon

Plans are now being laid for an exten-sive world evangelization crusade thiscoming season. The results obtained byTVH teams which have held campaigns invarious countries for the past severalmonths, have been extremely encourag-ing. Never before in history have revivalsabroad, been of size and proportion asthey are now. Here is the opportunity forpeople who wish to get the greatest re-sults from their missionary money toinvest for God.

The New Book, "Why Do theRighteous Suffe0"

Just off the press is the new book "WhyDo the Righteous Suffer?" It is true thatthe righteous will suffer persecution, butis it the will of God that the righteoussuffer from sickness? This book shows-that the righteous suffer from some thingsunnecessarily (A chapter from this book"Paul's Thorn in the Flesh" is carriedin this issue.) A copy of this book anda copy of Brother Grant's new book"SLOW DOWN AND LIVE" will begiven to each person who sends an offer-ing to our WORLD REVIVAL CRU-SADE. (See page three.)

WITHOUT Jesus, there would be no Chris-tian religion, regardless of the category of

faith. In my life, in studying and observing dif-ferent people of different religions, and, espe-cially, our own Full Gospel Movement, I havebeen convinced that many who profess do nothave faith.

That is a big statement, I know; but by wayof introduction, I would like to say that manypeople are filled with fear. They think, if theyfear God, they are in a place where God is goingto meet them. Other folks are filled with thecrutch of penance, and we have a lot of it in bothour Catholic and Protestant religionand by theway, we have a great deal of it in our own FullGospel Movement. We think we are going to getto God, if we supplicate so many days, that God will answerour prayers.

Some people say, "I think if I fast ten days God will heal me."Then there are others who have hope they will be healed, andsome put forth great efforts; others have a desire and a greatlove for God.

But, my friends, these things are not enough. We must befilled with faith. You can fear God; you can fast and pray ;you can hope and put forth great efforts along every angle, andthey are not enough. You can love God more than life itself ;but that is not enough. There are too many of us who have faithin God and in His ability, but that is not enough. If I shouldask, "How many here tonight believe God could perform amiracle?" everyone of you would agree. That, my friends, isfaith in God and in His ability, but that is not enough. That,my friends, is faith in God's power and might and His ability, but that is not enough to do the job. We must have confidencein ourselves.

"According to Your Faith"In Matthew, chapter 9, verses 27-29, it reads:"And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed

him, crying, and saying, 'Thou Son of David, have mercy on us'."Those men readily recognized that Jesus had the power and

ability to heal blind eyes. That is why they were crying to Himto have mercy. "Have mercy on us, thou Son of David!"

"And when he was come into the house, the blind men cameto him: and Jesus saith unto them, 'Believe ye that I am ableto do this?' They said unto him, 'Yea, Lord'."

Their belief was in God's ability, power and grace. They had

all the faith in God's power and ability to heal, but there is something Jesus said, in the 29thverse, from which I am taking my text. We readHis words: "Then touched he their eyes, saying,'ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH BE IT UNTOYOU'."

They had to have confidence that they couldreceive their sight. Anybody knows that God canheal a blind man. Anyone knows that God canraise the dead. Anyone knows that God can per-form any miracle that is needed in this life. But,my friends, we have to have faith we can receivethat miracle from God.

Faith in God is not enough. Faith in God'sability, His might and His power is not enough.Fasting and all those things do not mean any-

thing of themselves. We must believe and have faith we are ina position that we can have them. We must have faith in our-selves, the same as faith in God.

Co-Labourers with GodI Corinthians 3:9, declares, "we are labourers together with

God." And 2 Corinthians 6:1 says: "We, then, as 'workers to-gether with him', beseech you . . ." God is not going to do it all.We are going to do our part if we are to receive`God's blessingand His power.

And let me illustrate: If you want to be a soul-winner forJesus Christ, spending ten hours a day in prayer will not makeyou a soul-winner. We want to put ourselves in a position whereGod can make us a soul-winner. You have to believe it. Youhave to speak with authority and confidence, or, my friends, you will never be a soul-winner.

I am limited, as far as education is concerned, when it comesto the preaching ministry ; but I have put myself in the placeI believe I can do it. Before I can win a soul, I have to believethat Richard Vinyard can do it and I can with God my co-worker. We are co-workers.

God can work with faith, but an unbeliever cannot be aworker with God. God says I must work. God can't use us unlesswe have faith we can work with Him. God wins the souls, butGod has to have His preachers to preach to win them. We areco-workers. We are co-labourers together with God. I am nota healer, as some people call us. I am a preacher ; but whenI preach healing and practice healing, God works with me. Weread that "the disciples went everywhere preaching the Word,

A Thrilling Message ofGod's Power in Action Today

MILWAUKEE EVANGELISTIC TEMPLE

As preached at the Dallas TVHby Evang. R. W. Culpepper

T WISH to talk to you this afternoon for a little bit on asubjed that is so much bigger than I am that I was almost

reluctant to speak upon it. And since the profundity of the sub-ject is so &eat, I shall only be able to touch and illuminate afew high points. But here is the text in the 9th chapter of thebook of Mark, verse 23. "And Jesus said unto him, if thou canstbelieve, all things are possible to him that believeth." Will yousay it with me once. "If thou canst believe, all things are possibleto him that believeth."

Power of the Atomic BombAlbert Einstein was 'the intellectual genius that discovered

the secrets of the atomic bomb some years ago. The bomb wasfirst used in World War II and dropped over Hiroshima onAugust 6, 1945. I was a soldier in the war at that time, and Ican well remember the very day. That small bomb, known as theatomic bomb, was dropped and exploded at a height of 1800 feetabove the city. Instantly 70,000 people went out into eternity asthe great explosion flashed over that city. Another 140,000ultimately died or were left hopeless invalids the rest of theirlives. That city was the scene of one of the m-ost devastatingdemonstrations of natural power that the world had ever seen.

The Power of Destruction in the Next WarA few months ago, out in Oakland, California, when I was

holding a revival for Dr. C. J. Lowry, I picked up the newspaper,on the streets of Oakland, and I looked at a headline that saidthat the president, Mr. Eisenhower reports that 35,000,000 peo-ple could be killed in one single night. I read the caption underthe Associated Press report where the President said shouldthe enemy choose to invade us with nuclear bombs, that our de-fense department would perhaps be able to stop 60% of anyinvading enemy's planes, leaving 40% to fly across this greatAmerica that you and I live in, and to drop its devastatingbombs on the great metropolitan areas.

That is an illustration of what human power or what thehuman mind has been able to concoct, and to produce in the wayof power. But let me remind this audience that the supernatural

CULPEPPER CAMPAIGN STIRS MILWAUKEEEVANGELISTIC TEMPLE

VANGELIST R. W. CULPEPPER has just concluded one of thegreatest revivals in the history of Milwaukee Evangelistic Temple.

Thousands of people attended his revival in the four weeks' campaign.Hundreds were healed by the Power of God as he laid his hands onthe sick and afflicted. Scores were filled with the Holy Spirit accordingto Acts 24, and as many as 57 were baptised in the Holy Spirit in oneservice. To be exact, an actual count of 1,038 souls came forward forsalvation during the revival.

Our church welcomes the return of Evangelist Culpepper as soon ashe finds it possible to come our way again. At the close of EvangelistCulpepper's revival our church admitted more members than at anyother time during an evangelistic effort. Now that the campaign is over,we are.still receiving new members each Sunday morning as a resultof Evangelist Culpepper's campaign.

In my eighteen years as an ordained minister, of which more thanhalf of that time has been spent in pastoral work, I have never hadan evangelist come into my church and do mare good than our BrotherCulpepper. I know that our church will feel the effects of the ministryof this man of God for months to come. Brother Culpepper does notpraise himself, but insists that Jesus Christ receive the honor and glory. In this day of mass evangelism, many, through over-enthusiasm (if I

may be permitted to use that expression), have unwisely lifted them-selves into the limelight and have left Jesus outside in the dark. I don'tbelieve this has been done deliberately, but nevertheless, it has beendone. Jesus said, "And I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto Me."Some have made the sad mistake of drawing people to themselves. In those cases, after the evangelist leaves, their messiah is gone andthe poor pastor is left with quite a backwash on his hands. Must Isay more'?

Evangelist Culpepper is not only a great soul-winner, but spendstremendous energies in trying to stabilize what he has done that hisfruit will remain. Out of the scores and scores who received the baptismof the Holy Spirit through the ministry of Brother Culpepper, I do notknow of one person who has been disappointed or who has not abso-lutely been completely changed and transformed.

Our prayer is that God will raise up more men like Brother Culpepperto bring this nation a revival of old-time power.

power of God far exceeds that of atomicand hydrogen energy and any other formof nuclear energy. If you look back intohistory a little ways, you will find thatMr. James Watt discovered the steam en-gine, a source of natural power, in 1798.Electricity was later discovered, and har-nessed and used, another great source ofpower. We think of the powerful automo-biles we now drive. We look back to theday when Mr. Henry Ford, in 1898, in-vented the combustion engine. But friends, let me remind you that the supernaturalpower of God cannot be defined as everhaving a beginning. The Bible says "Inthe beginning God." "In the beginningGod created the heavens and the earth."God's power is creative. God created theheavens and the earth. He made it andthen consummated that creation by tak-ing the dust of the ground and molding itinto his own image and breathing into it,thus making man after his own likeness. He created man, made him like Himself.

The Ronnie Coyne MiracleI understand that Mrs. Coyne and her

son Ronald are here this afternoon. Areyou in the audience anywhere ? There sheis sitting right out there. I think thatthere would be no congregation in Amer-ica that would be more conscious of themiracle that God created for little RonnieCoyne. I shall not attempt to give all thedetails, but it comes to my attention now,the first time I ever saw and heard aboutRonnie Coyne. I was inquisitive, I wantedto see what God had done for that littlelad who was out playing in the yard andlost an eye. You remember that a piece ofwire had come and stuck in one of his eyesand he lost his eyesight. They took himto a hospital. The doctors said that theywould have to remove the eyeball. SisterCoyne at that time belonged to anotherdenomination, and was not Full Gospel. At first she refused to let them operate, but after some consideration they removedthe eyeball from little Ronnie Coyne, andplaced a plastic eye in its stead. It was agood job. People who looked upon RonnieCoyne, unless they observed very closely, didn't see or notice that Ronnie had a plas-tic eye.

Ronnie went to a revival meeting thatwas being conducted by a lady evangelist,Mrs. Gillock. Sister Coyne was there, andher family and the little lad. Ronnie cameacross the platform, as I understand thestory, to be prayed for as he had a badcold in his head, and had bad tonsils. Theevangelist prayed for his throat andlooked down at his eye and seeing that theone eye looked a little bit different, shesaid to him, "What's the matter with youreye ?" He didn't say, "I have a plasticeye?" He said, "I'm blind in the eye." Andimmediately the evangelist, not knowingthat he had a plastic eye said to him, "Doyou believe Jesus can give you sight inthat eye?" He said, "Yes, Ma'am, I do."She said, "All right, we'll pray." Mrs.Coyne was looking on. But she couldn'tattract the evangelist's attention to tellher that he had a plastic eye. The evange-list just laid her hands over the little boyand said, "God give this little boy sight.Make this little boy to see. Now little boy, cover up your good eye." He covered it up.She held up a finger and asked if he couldsee it. He said. "Yes, that's one finger."Mrs. Coyne was saying that he couldn'tsee. But the evangelist said, "He is see-

6 © Revival Library 2011

ing." She held up two fingers, and hecould see them. The evangelist said, "Hecan see." Mrs. Coyne said, "But you don'tunderstand, he can't see." The evangelistsaid, "Listen, I may not understand, butone thing I know, this boy can see." Shesaid, "But you still don't understand forhe has a plastic eye." And the evangelistsaid, "What ? A plastic eye ? Well, I don'tcare if it is plastic, he can see. PraiseGod."

Do you know what had happened ? Thecreative power of God gave that poor boysight. Hallelujah! God created sight forhim. God took nothing and made some-thing. And that something was sight. Ron-nie Coyne has been in several meetingsthat we have been in. In one particularinstance in Bellflower, California, he wasbrought before the people. We said,"Friends, we would like to have someoneother than a Pentecostal person come witha card, or something that has writing onit, and test and see if this little boy cansee. We want you to see for yourself. Isthere a Baptist ? Immediately a Baptistman raised his hand. He came out of thecrowd of about 1,700 people. When weasked -for a Methodist, a man raised hishand, and came forward. Then we askedfor a Presbyterian. There was no re-sponse. About that time, way in the back,a man jumped up and said, "How about aDutch Reformed ?" There are lots ofDutch around Bellflower. He came for-ward with the first two gentlemen. Every-body was watching, and there was a greatspirit of faith and belief, and God wasmightily in the meeting. As the Baptistcame by, he was astonished by what Godhad done. The Methodist came, and he,too, was astonished. They were so as-tounded they stood close by to see whatthis Dutch Reformed man was going to do.They just didn't want to get away fromthere. When the Dutch Reformed mancame, he handed Ronnie a little piece ofpaper. When Ronnie opened it, he looked alittle closer, and said that it was a check. So we told him to go ahead and read it.He said, "It's made out to the evangelistand it's for $1000." Do you remember that,Sister Coyne ? Well, that is another story.

Something else happened there thatnight. Those men had seen what the crea-tive power of God had done for that lad.And when they saw it, and had steppedaside, the power of God swept over thataudience just as if God had breathed uponthem. That Methodist, that Baptist, andthat Dutch Reformed man were all in-stantly filled with the Holy Ghost! Hun-dreds saw it with their own eyes. TheDutch Reformed man started jumping andshouting and praising God. Let me tellyou what he does now. He goes to the FullGospel Tabernacle in Bellflower to all thespecial services, but he stays in that DutchReformed church. He teaches a big classof men and women and doesn't leave be-cause, he said that he wants them to knowabout healing and the power of God. Hehas a big truck, and he has written on theside of that truck, "Jesus Saves! JesusHeals!" When he saw what God could do,it changed and revitalized his entire life. The power of God can do the same thingfor you.

When the Governor Saw a MiracleLet's go a bit further. We call ourselves

the Voice of Healing. God's power is heal-ing power. A few years ago I was in at-

tendance with several thousands of othersin a Pentecostal Convention in Atlanta,Georgia. There in Atlanta it was an-nounced to us one full day in advan e,that the next day at precisely a cerhour, we were going to be honorehaving the Honorable Mr. Talmadge, t eGovernor of the state of Georgia, addressthis Convention. We were all glad, every-one was glad. The officials who were incharge of arranging this address, ex-plained to us in a logical, sensible anddignified manner which was becoming tosuch a situation, how we should act whenthe governor should come. They told usthat plainclothesmen would come througha certain door, and they pointed it out. Some of the people I am speaking to werein that meeting. They said that the gov-ernor would come through that door, andwhen he did, we were to all rise and stand, and sing, "God Bless America," and I be-lieve, a verse of the Georgia State An-them, or something of .that nature, thatwas fitting and in order. They had a gen-tleman who was very gracious to give theeulogy I believe that is what they callit to introduce him. They had anothergentleman who, after the governor hadspoken to us, was to give the postlude, orwhatever you call it.

The governor came at precisely the ex-pected hour. He walked through the door, and we all stood as we were supposed todo. The gentlemen on the platform cuedus, so we stood at the right time. I wouldjudge there were about 3000 people thereat that time. The governor came to theplatform and was very courteously ledalong to his seat. We had the usual for-malities, and the man made the "eulogy"and said, "I introduce to you the Honor-able Mr. Talmadge, the governor of theState of Georgia." The governor stoodand in essence said something to this ef-fect, "Ladies and gentlemen, I wish totake this privilege, as the Governor ofthe State of Georgia, to welcome you toAtlanta and the great state of Georgia."

Suddenly far back in the auditorium,we heard something that sounded like anArkansas brush arbor "hallelujah." It wasconspicuously noticeable. The governormade a few sounds. And the brethren whohad the responsibility (I was certainlyglad that I didn't) began to blush just awee bit. When the governor started totalk again, you heard from the rear,"Glory to God." Now I believe in every-thing being done decently and in order. Before I get through you will believe thatthis was undoubtedly in order. We alltried to be gracious and not look awayfrom the Governor, at least I did, and Ithink most everyone did. But about thattime, we heard anothel. "Glory to God."And that was too much for me, I lookedaround. There came a man shouting"Glory to God" and "Hallelujah" andjumping like a kangaroo down the aisle.Every time he would hit the floor, hewould say, "Praise God, Glory to God,Hallelujah." So the Governor just gaveup trying to speak. The men in chargewere embarrassed, of course; I saw thempunching one another and saying, "Youdo something." But no one was doing any-thing. That man was shouting and leap-ing and praising God like the man in thethird chapter of the Book of Acts. Heshouted and jumped right down to therostrum. The Governor looked at him,

"Ask What Ye Will and It Shall Be DoneUnto You"

By K. 0. Syvanto,Tiberias, Israel

D URING the wartime year of 1942, Iwas in government service in Finland.

The situation was not good and the gov-ernment had ordered the evacuation ofthe whole population, some 500,000 people, from the Russian border some 200 milesinland. Every available flat or room wasoccupied by these refugees.

Arriving in this area to look for aplace for my family, I was told that therejust were not any, vacancies. However, realizing that I had to do something, Istarted out early in the morning in a houseto house search. The people just laughedat me. "The local authorities had alreadysearched out every possible place," I wastold.

The evening wore on. Darkness began togather. I looked at my watch and saw thatonly three hours were left before thc lasttrain would go and I had to catch thattrain. Things looked hopeless. I had gov-ernment orders to relocate in this placewithin a month. I hated the idea of leav-ing my family behind, for even if I should,I needed a place to live.

Suddenly I remembered the words ofour Lord in John 15:7, "If ye abide in meand my words abide in you, ye shall ASKWHAT YE WILL AND IT SHALL BEDONE UNTO YOU." I asked myself :are those words true or not? Can I trustthe Lord's promises in every day life, inits troubles and difficulties? I got a boldideanow I shall put this promise to atest. I knelt by the way-side and said tothe Lord, "Lord, I cannot boast that I havealways kept Thy words, and that I havealways been faithful to Thee, but, dearLord, be Thou faithful and keep Thypromises and help me now in this hope-less situation. Thou hast promised, "Askwhatever ye will and it shall be done toyou."

On arising from my knees I saw a smallgirl coming down the road toward me. Ihad the feeling that I should ask thisgirl to be my guide. So I asked her, andshe was ready and willing. I told her thatI did not like the naked plain where thecenter of the village was, and that I pre-ferred to buy a small house surrounded bytrees and near a forest and with a naturalspring nearby for drinking water. I hadheard that the water was not good inthis place, and even scarce in dry seasons.

She listened to me and said quietly, "Iknow such a house. Please follow me."She led me to the outskirts of the villagenear a forest, and there nestled a nice, nearly new brick house. The house provedto be vacant. I asked the girl if she knewthe owner. She led me to a wealthy mer-chant in the village, and left.

In less than half an hour we had agreedto the particulars and the price, whichwas surprisingly low, and I had becomethe new owner. I hardly realized what hadhappened. The Lord had in a marvelousway, answered my prayer, and given usour house, in less than three hours, aftermy efforts had failed.

After a month, we moved into thishouse, and lived there many happy years

until the Lord called me for His servicein the Holy Land. We live now by theLake Gennesaret, where the Lord pro-vided us another nice house.

I have wondered many times if the girlwho was then my guide was a real girl, orwas she an angel whom the Lord sentto help in my time of need?

The Rattlesnake Could Not Bite

"The Lord is on my side, I will not fear."Psalm 78:6.

nAVID Brainerd, in the early days ofour country, resolved to carry the Gos-

pel to a savage tribe of Indians away inthe forest. His friends declared that theyshould never see him alive again. He car-ried a little tent, under which he slept.

After weary days of travel he ap-proached the principal village of the tribe, but tarried for a while that he might pleadwith God for His blessing on his attemptto benefit those savage Indians. He sup-posed that no eye but God's rested on him,but some Indians had watched him as hepitched his tent, and then hastening to thevillage had told the chief of the approach-ing white man. A council was held, and itwas decided that he must die.

A party of Indians hid in a shelteredplace and waited for the missionary tocome out, but Brainerd continued long inprayer. Becoming impatient they drewnearer, and cautiously peering throughthe opening, they saw him on his knees.Just then a great rattlesnake slowlypushed its ugly head under the tent, andcrawled over Brainerd's feet, reared itselfparallel to the kneeling man's back as ifto strike its fangs into his neck. Sud-denly it drew back, as if God forbade themurderous attempt and glided out at theopposite side from which it had entered. The Indians were amazed, and slowly re-treating they joined their comrades anddescribed what they had seen.

Brainerd was so absorbed in prayer thathe knew nothing of the snake's visit, or ofthe savage warriors who had come to de-stroy him. He seemed to hear God say,"My presence shall go with thee." Atlength he took his Bible and went forthto the village. To his surprise, it seemedas if the whole tribe came out to greethim. They treated him with the greatestrespect, regarding him as under the pro-tection of the Great Spirit, and concludedinstead of being hostile to this man whomGod had defended from the poison of therattlesnake, they ought to sue for peace. They listened to his preaching, and wereready to heed his entreaties to trust alonein Christ for salvation.

(Satan has long deprived many Christians from having faithfor healing because he has told them that their affliction is a"thorn in the flesh" such as Paul had, and for this reason theycannot be healed. In this article is absolute proof that Paul's"thorn in the flesh" was not sickness.)

T T IS TRUE that the Scriptures do teach-a- that "they who will live godly in ChristJesus will suffer." (II Timothy 3:12)Many read the last word of this verse tosay "sickness." But if the reader will re-fer to the verse he will see that it says nosuch thing. It says they will suffer "per-secution." Nevertheless from this falseassumption, some teach that the righteousmust also suffer from sickness and disease. To back up this contention they call atten-tion to Paul's "thorn in the flesh" whichthey assert was a disease, supposedly adreaded eye affliction which caused Paulto become almost blind.

The first law of sound reasoning is thatone may not assume the thing which is tobe proved. The Scriptures declare thatPaul had a "thorn in the flesh." We arealso told that it was a messenger fromSatan which came to buffet him. We fur-ther understand that Paul did not receivedeliverance from "this thorn in the flesh."But where, we ask, does the Bible indicatethat the term "thorn in the flesh" refersto disease? Even Scofield, a denomina-tional expositor, regarding the supposedeye affliction of Paul, says:

"It has been conjectured that Paul's'thorn in the flesh' was chronic oph-thalmania (a serious eye affliction)inducing bodily weakness and a re-pulsive appearance. This cannot bepositively known, and the res6rve ofScripture is as sure a mark of in-spiration as its revelations. Paul'sparticular thorn is not described thathis consolations may avail for all towhom any thorn is given." (ScofieldBible)Actually the evidence of the Scripture

supplies absolute proof that Paul's "thornin the flesh" was not sickness of any kind.1. Paul's "Thorn in the Flesh" was given

because of great revelationsMany sick persons are prone to com-

pare themselves to Paul in the matter ofhis "thorn in the flesh." But they shouldnote the reason why he received it. Paulsaid it was given "lest I should be exaltedabove measure through the abundance ofthe revelations." (H Cor. 12:7) Now theobvious fact is that most of the people whoclaim to have a "thorn in the flesh" havereceived no notable revelations as Paul. Many of them don't even know the Scrip-tures on Divine Healing. Far from havingany great revelation that would neces-sitate a "thorn in the flesh" they pay littleheed to the revelations already given. They take little Mite of those great prom-ises such as Psalms 103:2, 3 which declare"Bless the Lord 0 my soul and forget not

all his benefits, who forgiveth all thineiniquities and who healeth all thy dis-eases." Nor of Matt. 8:16, 17: "And hecast out the spirits with his word andhealed all that were sick; That it ni '.-

be fulfilled that which was spokenEsaias the prophet, saying Himself tour infirmities and bare our sicknesses."Or the promise, "By His stripes ye werehealed."

Paul was caught up into the thirdheaven. He saw amazing things and nat-urally desired to relate on his return toearth what he saw. This however was notgranted. Because of the abundance of therevelations he was given a "thorn in theflesh" to keep him from becoming undulyexalted.

.

2. What does the Bible say a "Thorn inthe Flesh" is')

It is always a wise thing to allow thescriptures to explain themselves. The termevidently is figurative and not a literalthorn. We shall see in the Scriptures thatin each case, the term "thorn in the flesh"is used to indicate the persecution ofwicked persons and not diseases. In Num-bers 33:55, Moses said:

"If ye will not drive out the inhabi-tants of the land from before youthen it shall come to pass that thosewhich ye let remain of them shall bepricks in your eyes and thorns inyour sides, and shall vex you in theland wherein you dwell."Joshua, speaking at a later time, used

the term in the same way : "They shall bescourges in your sides and thorns in youreyes." Joshua 23:13. Again in Judges 2:3,the Lord speaks of the Canaanites as"thorns in your sides." We see thereforethat according to the Scriptures a "thornin the flesh" is not a disease but a person-ality whom the devil uses to annoy orpersecute the children of God.

If we allow Scripture to interpretScripture then the matter should be for-ever settled as to what the Bible meanswhen it speaks of a "thorn in the flesh."3. Did Paul infer in any way that his

"Thorn in the Flesh" was blindnessor some kind of sickness')

In the very passage of Scripture wherePaul speaks of his "thorn in the flesh" herefers to it as an infirmity or infirmities. He says:

"Most gladly therefore will Irather glory in my infirmities thatthe power of Christ may rest uponme. Thereforc I take pleasure in in-firmities, in necessities, in persecu-tions, in distresses for Christ's sake;for when I am weak then am Istrong." II Cor. 12:10.Paul lists his infirmities here as neces-

sities, persecutions and distresses. In thepreceding 11th chapter, he makes a longlist of these infirmities and distresses:

1. Labors more abundant.2. In stripes above measure.3. In prisons more frequent.4. In deaths oft.5. Five times received I forty stripez

save one.6. Thrice was I beaten with rods.7. Once was I stoned.8. Thrice I suffered shipwreck.

V ES, I actually met the devil face toface! I did not imagine it; I was not

having hallucinations as some have said;nor was it a dream, for I was wide awake. Were I to live in this life a hundred mil-lion years, this frightening experiencecould never be blotted from my memory.Four years have lapsed since this phenom-enon occurred, yet it has left such anindelible impression on my soul that theexperience seems as though it happenedonly yesterday.

My wife and I hadbeen traveling partof a day and all thenight aboard a hugeContinental Trail-ways bus. We wereenroute to Denver,Colorado, from Dal-las, Texas. I awokeearly that morningand while the sunhad not yet risen,

the daylight was already streamingthrough the windows and I could easildetect by the terrain features that ourbus was now roaring across the easternplains of Colorado. In fact, we were justforty-five minutes out of Kit Carson,Colorado. As I sat beside my faithful wifeand glanced about the bus, I noticed that, like her, some of the passengers were stillasleep, some were talking in low voices, while others read quietly, the smoke fromtheir cigarettes curling toward the ceil-ing. I was totally unaware that withinthe next few moments on that bus a ter-rifying thread of experience was to bewound around the spool of my life.

Looking directly forward, my eyecaught the reflection of two lights on theceiling of the bus. One was green and theother red. Both lights were attached tothe control panel of the bus and reflectedclearly on the polished ceiling. It was atthat moment that it happened! Suddenlythe two reflections merged into one. Asthe red and green converged, it seemedthat they burst into a hundred brilliantcolors. With mixed emotions I watchedthe colors cover the entire front part ofthe ceiling.

At first I was frightened, but in spiteof this fear, I felt strangely drawn to-ward those beautiful colors that danced

before me in all their splendor. Never inmy life had I seen such beauty in anycombination of colors. While sitting theregazing in wide-eyed astcinishinent, I no-ticed the colors were taking on a form.My eyes moved rapidly to the left and Irecognized the form; it was the body ofa dragon. This dragon I had seen manytimes before in pagan worship while inNorth China. As my eyes travelled slowlydown the dragon's body, I was still awareof the radiant colors; however, the fas-cination of its beauty was fading rapidlyonly to be replaced by a dreadful fear.Suddenly my eyes came to an abrupt halt!As I looked into his horrible face, I couldsee that he had the countenance of a man.Yet no man has ever looked so wicked ashe, for written deep into each ghastly lineof his hideous face was all the sin of theuniverse.

Then it was that I first realized I waslooking into the face of the devil him-self ! The moment my eyes met his itseemed that the fear intensified a thou-sandfold and all I could do was to sit, paralyzed, staring into his bulging eyeswith stark terror. Then he spoke to mein a low, sinister voice that reeked withall the powers of darkness. He knew myname and what God had called me to do;he spoke in a steady voice, never raisingor lowering the pitch, threatening me ashe talked, boasting that some day hewould destroy my ministry and cause meto lose my testimony of the reality of Godin my soul. As he continued pouring outhis infamous vials of blasphemy, I beganto wonder if I were the only one on thebus who was aware of the undeniablepresence of Satan. I tried to look aroundme, only to discover that I could not takemy eyes from his. However, in my rightforefield I could see the people and al-though more seemed to be awake thanbefore none seemed aware of any of thethings I was seeing and hearing.

The longer Satan talked to me the moremalicious his threats became and themore frightened I became, until indescrib-able waves of dread and horror sweptover me again and again. I knew that Ihad to do something to gain my deliver-ance or I would be utterly consumed byfear. It seemed that I was suddenly awareof the presence of my wife; why had Inot thought of her sooner. She had alwayshad an answer to spiritual problems. After all, was not she the one who hadled me to the Lord Jesus Christ? Shecould pray and he would have to go, Ithought. I could feel her arm touchingmine all I would have to do would beto nudge her with my elbow and shewould awaken and help me to be freefrom this horrible thing. But try as des-perately as I might, I could not nudge her,for I was completely paralyzed. My mindwas racing rapidly now. I knew that Ihad to be liberated or I would die of sheerfright. Futilely I attempted to close myeyes, only to find this unholy power com-pelling me to stare into his eyes. Strain-ing the muscles in my neck in a finalattempt to pull my fa,,e away from his,I exhausted the last bit of human effortthat I possessed.

Just when fear and terror had reachedits highest pitch, I thought of a namethe Name of Jesus. With great difficultyI attempted to utter this name audibly, but to my alarming dismay, I found myvocal organs completely paralyzed. I thendetermined to simply think His name. This I did once, twice, three times. At lasti managed to faintly whisper His nameJesus. Upon the first audible whisper ofthe name of Jesus, the visage of Satanchanged from a proud authoritative lookto that of worry. Once again I managedto blurt out the name, Jesus! ThenSatan's voice seemed to tremble and fail;outright fear replaced the worried lookon his face. With more confidence now,I repeated the name of Jesus. The voiceof Satan was completely silenced andnow he was the one who was afraidhe feared that name, Jesus. My fourthventure was easy so I boldly declared thename, Jesus! The very moment the wordshad fallen from my lips, yes, even quickerthan it takes to tell it, the devil vanishedbefore my eyes and the only material re-minder of this alarming experience thatremained was the two lights which I

could see clearly reflecting on the ceiling.I buried my face in the seat cushions ofthat bus and thanked God for the lovelyname of Jesus to whom someday everyknee shall bow and every tongue shallconfess.

and God worked with them and confirmedthe Word with signs following." We'vegot to believe we can do the work of God.

Some people have no confidence in heal-ing. They say, "I have tried and tried, and I don't seem to get anywhere." If youdon't believe, you can't get anywhere.Workers must believe. God never workswith anybody that does not believe. Wemust have faith in our religion. Jesushealed the sick and cast out devils. Thewind and the waves obeyed His command. He believed He could do the works of theFather, and because He believed, He re-ceived. When Elijah had fear and ran toa solitary place, he was having defeat. It was according to his faith the way Godworked with him.

"Oh," you say, "I believe the wholeBible!"

You do? You would never know it!When you believe this Book from coverto cover you will have results. You haveto believe you can have them, though.

Jesus didn't say, "According to yourdesire and longing, and according to yourneed be ye healed." He said, "ACCORD-ING TO YOUR FAITH." He said, "Ifyou believe, you can receive from Me."Before you receive, you have to believe Heheals, because "WITHOUT FAITH, theScripture says, "IT IS IMPOSSIBLETO PLEASE GOD."

Peter healed the sick by speaking theWord, in the NAME OF JESUS. He saidGod has given me the authority to use theName of Jesus. In that mighty Name ofJesus, I can do the works of Jesus. AndPeter believed he could do the works ofJesus.

You say, "I hope I can be healed." Buthope is not enough. You have to believe.YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE IN YOURABILITY, THAT YOU CAN HAVEWHAT GOD SAYS. "Christ in you, thehope of glory !" We have to realize it andturn it loose, in order to receive His bless-ing. As long as we don't we are not goingto possess.

Why So Many DefeatedMany people are defeated because they

do not believe in themselves. They get atouch from God but they doubt their abil-ity to obtain anything, and though theyhaire received a touch of bodily healing, they don't keep their healing. You canhave anything God wants to give you, if

10

you make up your mind and hold on toGod's promise and have confidence inyourselves.

A man came to the platform not longago, a very sick man. He began to makeexcuses why he was not healed. There isno excuse why. He said, "I just got backto God a couple days ago. I am notworthy."

I said, "There is not a man on the faceof this earth who is worthy of what Godhas done for him!" I said, "You are notgoing to be healed because you are worthy, but because you believe you can have it. '

People don't realize what they are inChrist. They think of their own abilityand not in the ability Christ gives. Aslong as we look at ourselves and condi-tions and our failures, that is enough todisgust anybody; but when we look atwhat Jesus made us, that is what counts!

The old devil said to me, "You need notthilik you are going to have miracles. Youare not worthy."

I am not going to have miracles becauseI am worthy; but Jesus said I could havethem, and I believe I can have them. Youknow most of us don't have faith in ourreligion. People go around condemningthemselves. Have you heard Christiansgoing around condemning themselves? The Holy Ghost isn't condemning them;they are condemning themselves. Theysay, "This is wrong with me, and thatis wrong with me, and if you don't thinksomething is wrong with me, just ask mywife she'll tell you!"

But I can still have God's anointingpower, because I am not looking at mynatural self ; I am looking at what JesusChrist says I am. We've got to believe inthe religion of Jesus Christ.

I look back at the tendency of the Vin-yard family and the Irish and Dutchsides. I have been born again from aboveand all the old carnal nature all theold Irish nature that lived in me, I havelost. I am a new creation. Christ mademe a new creation. I don't think as aman would think about myself, but asGod thinks about me. And that is the rea-son we lose our faith. If we look our-selves over a bit, but when we look atwhat Christ made us, and remember Hesaid, "If ye believe, ye shall receive." Youcan have what you believe you can.

Believe in YourselfWe must believe in ourselves; for "ac-

cording to your faith be it unto you."According to what you believe.

Some people say, "You are not fit tohave God's blessing." A lot of preacherfriends come to me, and say, "How in theworld did you get where you are in theministry. We know your disposition."

It makes no difference what you know, but I know what God knows I am. Hemeasured me, and I believe I am whatJesus says I am. And when you STOPbelieving what all the emissaries of Satansay and all the quotations from Hell, andbegin to believe what JESUS says aboutyou, then you will have faith in your-selves.

Some people say, "My, I am weak !""Yes," you say, "I am weak. I'm afraid

I'm not going to make it.""When I am weak, then am I strong!"

Jesus says He "is my strength."The Devil says, "You can't win that

battle!"God says, "I am more than conqueror

through Him that loved me!"Seine folks believe anything the old

Devil tells them. Some people will sill"Now, don't get all excited about tfaith business. "

It is time we took our place and hadfaith in ourselves, and what Jesus madeus at Calvary!

Some people say, "I don't have enoughfaith to get healed." And that is why somany of you run to everyone's prayer-lines, because the old Devil says, youhaven't enough faith.

"What do you mean, old Devil? I havethe faith of Jesus Christ. I have the faithof the Son of God. I have the faith of theSpirit of God. I have the witness of theSpirit of God. What do you mean I don'thave faith? You get out of here! I canhave all the promises in the Book."

You say you don't have faith in yourreligion? Well, religion comes from God.When I pray for folks, sometimes I don'thave faith; but I don't go on feelings oron what I think. I go on what God says. That is the secret of the whole thingbelief in God's word and belief in your-self.

I will never forget an occasion whena minister came to visit me. He said, "Ithought you had good sense. I think nowyou are losing your mind. I am going topray for you."

"All right, go ahead and pray for me;but be sure and come to church Sundaymorning."

"Do you mean to tell me sick people aregoing to come to church to be prayed forand you can pray for them and they willbe healed before our eyes?"

"Yes," I said, "and we see that at everyservice. God heals the sick !"

So I invited him to preach on Sundaymorning. It was the saddest message Ihave ever heard. He didn't believe whatJesus said, and he presented the thing, sonegative, it stunk to the high heavens. Then he announced that I was going topray for the sick.

The people had heard nothing uponwhich to build faith from God's Word.So I had a challenge against a negativepreacher and against the Devil. ButJesus said, "These signs shall follow themthat believe. IN MY NAME shall -theycast out devils, they shall lay hands onthe sick and they shall recover."

So I stuck to the Bible. In the meetingthat day there was a high school boy,who was cross-eyed and almost blind. When in that precious NAME OF JESUSI touched his eyes, they were healed, andthree days later the doctor who againexamined him attested he was healed.

The preacher who had preached thatSunday morning was a Full Gospelpreacher, and one of their doctrines isDivine Healing: but the preacher didn'tbelieve in his religion.

God put this thing in the Book, friends, and we can claim it or not claim it. God'spromise is this, that we shall have "powerover all the power of the enemy"; but ifwe do not believe it, the enemy will useus for a football: but to those who havefaith in the religion of Jesus Christ, vie-tory is ours, for we are fighting the goodfight of faith and God is going to bless us.

In the front, beginning at the left, is Bro. Eli Cruz, Bro. Sjoberg, Bro. Mastro, and Bro. Locsino.

ON NOVEMBER 9, 1955, EvangelistMichael Mastro arrived in the Phil-

ippines for a month of deliverance evan-gelism in Angeles and the surroundingarea. These were days of Divine Minis-try. Rev. Mastro's campaign was the firstextended deliverance campaign ever con-ducted in the provinces. All the other cam-paigns have been in Manila and thosethat did go to the provinces were for afew days only. Rev. Mastro's campaignproved that the provincial people are asreceptive to the message of deliverance asthose living in Manila and the metropoli-tan centers.

Angeles is located50 miles north ofManila, near ClarkAir Force Base, thelargest AmericanAir Base in the FarEast. Pentecost isnew in this area. An-geles Christian Cen-ter is the only Pen-tecostal church in

Michael Mastro this entire centralsection of Luzon. This unevangelized areais a challenge to the message of Pentecost.

When the mighty revelation gifts ofthe Spirit operated through Rev. Mastroin his first service in Angeles ChristianCenter, the people were filled with con-sternation. As he pointed to people in theaudience, and described in detail their ill-nesses, some began to cry and pray, whileothers visibly showed fear, for they knewthey were in the presence of the Lord.Later, as the people became accustomedto these mighty manifestations, it causedeveryone to rejoice, and greatly strength-ened the faith of all. One day we wentto one of our new outstations in a nearbycommunity. When Rev. Mastro was readyto minister to the sick, he began to revealto them their illnesses. In detail he tolda lady that she had a tumor, its size, andlocation. It was true. She was speechless. In bewilderment she turned to her friends, and in the dialect she remarked, "Whatkind of a man is this who can tell me allthese things!" Often we saw people healedwhere they stood when Brother Mastrowould pray for them, after having de-scribed their illnesses.

Evangelist Mastro's preaching wasoutstanding. Even yet the people fre-

quently remark how they were edified andinstructed by his Bible messages. Hisopening question "How many love thatman called Jesus?" has almost become aslogan here. His theme chorus "Jesus setme free" has spread from church tochurch until it is being sung everywherein the Islands.

Rev. Mastro's life and ministry aresuch that it is a joy for a pastor to spon-sor him. Often the conditions overseasare not comparable to the States, but Rev.Mastro adapted himself perfectly to ournon-American standard of living. Neverbefore have I met a man of God whoseemed to fit so perfectly with circum-stances, and who was so humble and hu-man, while yet so anointed and gifted ofGod. He served without any considera-tions for himself at all. All of this, whilehe could have been in the States underideal circumstances. One quality that Ireally appreciated in Rev. Mastro washis missionary vision. Certainly I canrecommend him to any who wish to havean anointed man of God to minister tothem. Praise the Lord for his ministry.

The accompanying pictures, taken atthe concluding service, show the cam-paign in progress. Interest was excellent.People came from far distances..In everyplace where we advertised the meetings,we had a fine response. As a result, themessage of Pentecost is far better knownnow than before. Frequently people froma distance return to our church, tellingus that they first came here during thesalvation-healing campaign of Rev. Mas-tro. As a result of the healings of manywho came from distant places, we nowhave more opportunities for out-stationsthan we can manage, because we lacknative workers. The harvest is greaterthan we can reap. Pray with us forreapers.

Brother Mastro's ministry also in-spired our church workers and lay mem-bers to work for God. Some of our peoplewho have felt the call of God upon theirlives have volunteered to assume the re-sponsibility for some of the new out-sta-tions. Our readers would be thrilled to seetheir enthusiasm and consecration towork for the Lord.

Rev. Mastro did not spare himself inthis campaign. Services were held twicedaily; a morning instruction service in the

THE VOICE OF HEALING JUNE, 1956

church, and the evening service outdoorsin a large vacant lot adjacent to thechurch.

In a community about five miles awayis a U.C.C.P. church (United Church ofChrist in the Philippines), pastored byRev. Nicanor Lacsina, who is now ac-cepting the message of Pentecost. Rev.Lacsina interpreted for Brother Mastroalmost every night. Without the splendidcooperation of Rev. Lacsina, the cam-paign could not have been successfullyconducted. Toward the end of his stayhere, Brother Mastro held four nights ofservices at Rev. Lacsina's church, whichwas so packed that not even standingroom remained. Rev. Lacsina reports thathis church is growing, and that there isa new spirit in their services.

We are deeply grateful to BrotherMastro for coming to the Philippines, andwould be happy to have him come again.

TESTIMONIES OF HEALINGS FROM THEMASTRO CAMPAIGN

Testimony of Mrs. Brigida Dabid(See photo No. 1)

For more than six months I was para-lyzed from my waist down. I could noteven stand on my feet, and whenever Iwanted to move, I had to drag myselfaround the house.

During these six months I sought theaid of three prominent doctors in ourcommunity. They could not help me. Butwhen Evangelist Mastro prayed for me,I received deliverance, and was able tostand on my feet, and walked home with-out assistance.

Now I do my own work at home. I amfilled with joy and gladness, for I can domy work with ease. Praise God!

Testimony of Benito B. Mutia(See photo No. 2)

From 1913 to 1940 I was a member ofthe Philippine Scouts, United StatesArmy. Because I was afflicted with asth-ma, I had to be given a medical disabilitydischarge in 1940. Prior to my discharge,I was sent to various U. S. Army Hos-pitals for treatment. I also sought theassistance of various civilian hospitals.but without any relief.

On November 20, 1955, I was prayedfor by Evangelist Mastro. The LordIesus was gracious to deliver me instant-ly. Before I was prayed for I was in suchcritical condition that my wife had toassist me to find a place at the beginningDf the prayer line, for there were so manywho were seeking deliverance. For m3healing I give all the glory and praiseand thanksgiving to the Lord JesusChrist. I also wish to thank His servant,Evangelist Mastro, for coming to thePhilippines.

Candlesticks and Rockets

T T SEEMS that we have to return tosome themes again and again if they

deal with real dangers in the work of theGospel. For instance, here is a hot letteron my desk from a pastor accusing anevangelist of gross exaggeration in re-perting a campaign in his area. And hereis another letter referring to the scath-ing words of some evangehsts about somepastors, and about official brethren andcouncils in general. Like most of the restof us I personally want to keep cool inthe middle of this kind of thing, and havethe mind of Christ.

One can sympathize with a local pas-tor who works steadily in his church yearin and year out with rewarding but notspectacular results. Then a revivalistcomes along with a big tent, big publicity, and a spectacular type of ministry. Hedraws the crowds; he sees some miraclesof healing; he is able to count decisionsby tho hundred while the revival is inprogress. Then he moves on to repeat thesame thing elsewhere and publishes en-thusiastic statistics. What the evangelist

does not always recognize is that thewhole thing is of a transitory nature. Itis good; it has done good ; it has leftsome lasting fruit unto God: but the ulti-mate increase of the church depends inthe final analysis upon the frithful workof the obscure local pastors. It is naturalfor an evangelist who lives in a constantwhirl of excitement through campaignafter campaign to develop a view of thework of God as a whole that lacks balanceand true perspective. It can only be other-wise by a great mental and spiritualeffort.

But let us sympathize with the evan-gelist also. Usually his very gifts havemade him somewhat of an individualist. He could not succeed in any other way.Inevitably he chafes at the necessary con-stitutional structure of collective churchactivity call it "denominationalism" ifyou wish. His particular work makes himwant to get things out of the rut, andlaunch out in a big way in the Gospel.Such a man becomes impatient with set-tled ministers who have become conserva-tive, cautious and see things only andalways from the "church" angle. Perhaps

they are men of limited ability and paro-chial outlook faithful, but definitely inthe "two talent" class. In any case theyare very conscious that it will be theirtask to carry on after the big effort hspent itself, whatever the effect may hbeen on the public. It is, however, psible for local pastors to become circum-spect to the point of cowardice. The evan-gelist wants men who will dare things forChrist and the Gospel. If he cannot findthem it is easy to become critical and sourand suppose that all pastors are back-slidden and lack zeal.

What is the answer to these things?Surely it is easy to find in the word ofGod. It lies In recognizing that Christ hasgiven "some evangelists, and some pas-tors and teachers" (Eph. 4/11). The poi-sonous thing with so many of us preachersis that we are men with one-track minds, and one line of ministry that we deemvital. It seems as if we can neither seenor appreciate men with a different linefrom our own. Yet if there is one aspectof the truth made clear in the word ofCod regarding Pentecostal ministries itis that there are "diversities of gifts butthe same Spirit" (1. Cor. 12). The bodyis not one member, but many.

In the inspired vision of the localchurches in the Revelation, they are de-scribed as "candlesticks" ("lampstands"R.V.). They represent a steady, clear, shining light, not necessarily dazzling butnever going out. The Lord loves Hisgolden candlesticks quite as much as Hisblazing rockets, that light up the heavensfor a brief space and then? Each andall have a God-given place. The harbor-lights, and the powerful rockets, eachplay their part in rescuing the perishing. To learn to work WITH one another, andnot against one another, nor even sep-arately from one another, is to manifesttrue Pentecostal wisdom. Such wisdomfrom above wins a resounding victoryover one of Satan's devices to frustratethe weapons of our warfare.

Token from o letter received one yearafter the healing took place.

FMENDS, I am happy to tell you ofthe marvelous grace of God and His

power to heal. I was a victim of tubercu-losis. I was bedfast for at least a yearand had suffered through part of 1964and all of 1953. I was healed on February19, 1954. Toward the end of 1953 hemor-rhaging began indicating the last stagesof the disease. Oh, how I suffered. Theblood poured like water. I had come tothe place that I expected to die. The peo-ple of God prayed that I might be healed, but it seemed as though all would be invain.

Rev. Walter E.Campher

Then one day thephone rang andSister Duffy fromWaynesboro, Penn-sylvania, told usthat Evangelist L.C. Robie of UnionSprings, New York, was holding a Biblesalvation - healingmeeting there, andasked, "Won't you

come over and let him pray for you?" Mywife told her that I was not able thatI was bleeding profusely. Rev. Robiemailed me an anointed cloth and told meto believe that God had done the healing, and that I was to praise God for it. "Putyour hand on your head," he said, "holdthis little cloth, and praise and thank Godfor your healing."

Seemingly I did not receive the victory, and that evening about four o'clock, asI meditated on it, I turned my face as itwere to the wall, and prayed, "Oh God,deliver me from this affliction." I said,"I am like a man that is harassed by theenemy and reproached." I asked the Lordto take away my affliction and "Do itnow." And as I asked Him, I began toput faith into action; I took away thecover and made an effort to move. I goton my feet (Oh, praise God's greatname) ; the power of God came down;strength came into my backbone, and Ifelt the glory of God moving in my room.My whole being was illuminated with theglory of God. I walked and paced the floor, giving all the glory to God, until all inthe house knew that God had worked inmy behalf. I have been whole ever sincethat hour.

Evang. L. C. RobieMARIETTA, PENNSYLVANIA, STIRRED

By Edward S. Bell, Sr., PastorMaranatha Chapel Assembly of GodFor four weeks we experienced a great

Holy Ghost awakening here at the 111ar-anatha Chapel. Evangelist L. C. Robleof Union Springs, N. Y., came to us Jan-uary 1st, and led forth in revival.

Souls came for salvation many nights.Saturday night at the close of the firstweek, nine were baptized in the HolyGhost. Others received the Holy Ghostat other times as this visitation of Godcontinued. Many were healed in theprayer line from all sorts of diseases:deafness, arthritis, sinus, virus, bursitis, and many others too numerous to men-tion. It was a common thins for peopleto testify to healing right while they weresitting in their seats. The gifts of theSpirit were in operation in all the meet-ings.

The ministry that God sent to Mariettawas far above expectation. The soul stir-ring messages of B:rother Robie, preachednight after night, were the solid, sane, sound and very constructive truths andadvice that we and all Full Gospel peopleneed to hear.

We are thankful to God for sending theRobie Party here to this small work, which has now become a large work. Wehave appreciated the way the Evangelistwaited on the Holy Spirit at all times.Without a tinge of exaggeration on ourpart, L. C. Robie is a God-sent leaderwell capable for any size meeting. All theglory to Jesus Christ our Lord.

On September 11 we began a special sal-vation-healing revival with EvangelistL. C. Robie of Union Springs, N. Y.Brother Robie got under the burden ofthe situation and preached passionately,

inspired by God, sothat the tide contin-ued to rise. The Tab-ernacle began to fillespecially for theSunday services. Many were savedand several filled, orrefilled, with theSpirit, and numberswere healed of var-ious maladies, for

which we praise God.

We had conducted two weeks of cot-tage prayer prior to this revival andcontinued them during the revival. At-tendance mounted in these homes untilthey became crowded. God met us in defi-nite ways in answer to prayer. The Gloryof God became richly manifest during therevival services, many of which lasteduntil the midnight hour. To God be thepraise! We believe this is the beginningof greater things for Trafford.

Thus the ministry is greatlymultiplied.

Report on the Roy H. Stewart Campaignin Managua, Nicaragua, C.A.

R EV. ROY H. STEWART and family of Clovis, New Mexico, began a Divine Healing and Salvation Campaign in the

City of Managua, Nicaragua, the night of February 7, 1956,and closed the night of the 28th of the same month. Miracleswere wrought by God and a great work accomplished under thepowerful and consecrated ministry of our brother.

As the campaign photographer I was located in such a posi-tion as to be able to note the miracles and healings throughoutthe campaign. They were innumerable. We have no sure recordof the number healed but we are being very conservative whenwe say that dozens of deaf people, in one ear or both, werehealed instantly. A great number of mutes, mostly among thechildren were heard to speak for the first time. God worked ina special way among the blind. Many who had been blind alltheir lives and others for a long period of time, in one or botheves, were delivered instantly. Cataracts were seen to leave atthe powerful prayer of faith. Twisted and crippled bodies werestraightened and healed, headaches and other bodily painsinstantly ceased.

The testimonies were many and inspiring. Truly we haveseen the things brought to pass that are recorded in God's Word."These signs shall follow them that believe." Mark 16:17. "Theblind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers arecleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up and the poorhave the gospel preached to them." Matt. 11:5.

One notable thing about the campaign was the wonderfulbehavior and great interest of the people. There was very littledisturbance of any kind. Each night, without exception, as thecall was given, people flocked to the front to pray the prayerof the repentant sinner. Only eternity will reveal all the won-derful things that the Lord has brought to pass during thisgreat campaign.

Evangelist Richard Vinyard

714e litst Ossemb11 ci galoaton,'Texas, Eas apt Outstaktit49 Revival wilt

Evat49eLst Vipttjat

By James W. Drush, Pastor

WE HAVE just completed the greatest revival in the history of The First Assem-bly of God Church here in Galveston. Texas. Our church in its present form was

built largely upon such deliverance ministries.

Pastor James W. Drush

For four and one-half years after obeying the voice of Godto come to this city for the purpose of building a church, we havewitnessed the move of God in instance after instance. Each moveof God being a foundation stone that would prepare the churchfor something greater. A parade of deliverance evangelists hasbeen to Galveston, each in his own way contributing to the suc-cess that has been enjoyed during this period of time. An enthu-siastic consecrated congregation has continued to back such aprogram of faith and vision until today a new church has replacedthe old a revival church that will seat 1000, and that will becompletely air-conditioned when fully completed.

Possibly you would wonder what has been the effect of theministry of deliverance, which has, at times, carried the budget quite high. During thisperiod, this congregation has erected this auditorium, valued at $100,000.00, for anindebtedness of less than $35,000.00. The balance has been raised and work contributedto make this possible.

This meeting with Brother Vinyard took on spiritual proportions from the firstnight. What was booked as a healing revival turned into a great move of the Spiritlarge numbers receiving the baptism of the Spirit. Evangelist Vinyard moved withthe Spirit as God began to visit His people with this type of outpouring. His messageswere dynamic, meeting great needs in the lives of the people. We sat night after nightenthralled by the move of God as the ministry gifts came forth from the pulpit. Manynights we came home at a late hour feeling that the breath of God was so near thatwe hardly dared talk for fear of breaking the spell of His mighty presence. Largenumbers were added to the church. Nominal church folk were reached during thisrevival. They heard, saw, and received the baptism of the Spirit. Miracles of healingwere witnessed. The gift of discernment operated many nights, and people with allmanner of afflictions were called out and set free from their sicknesses.

I found Evangelist and Mrs. Vinyard both lovely people from a personal stand-point. Brother Vinyard feels the burden of a pastor and labors in love to help all thatit is possible to help. Sister Vinyard is not to be overlooked. We found that she, too,had a ministry of discernment and compassion, thus filling many needs as God movedon her and brought things to her attention. We feel that this church will never be thesame again after the departure of the man of God.

I find it difficult to fully express my feelings on this revival. As a pastor who haslearned to be honest and appraise a ministry fairly, my only words in closing is thatI trust that the Lord sees fit to permit the return of this couple to our fair city.

Report from James A. Booth,Supt., Sunday School

We at The First Assembly of GodChurch of Galveston were privileged tohave Evangelist Richard Vinyard withus for the past four weeks.

Brother Vinyard has a rich deliveranceministry. His teaching of the Word ofGod brought us closer to Him. The bap-tism of the Holy Ghost was made so real.Over twenty who had been seeking formonths and even years, received beforetwo weeks had passed. The gifts of theSpirit were in operation from night tonight in an unusual way. The Word waspreached with such anointing that sev-eral felt and sought their call into God'spurpose, God truly is no respector of per-sons; what He has done for others Hewill do for you.

My own personal experience is unex-pressable. I sat and drank in the Word.God moved on my heart. I have seenthings clearer than ever before. Mywords are inadequate to express myheart for Brother and Sister Vinyardand their ministry, Needless to say ourSunday School is on the increase. Mydesire is to have them back at their firstopportunity.

From W. I. Julian, DeaconBrother Vinyard took the church on

his heart from the beginning. He took theprophets of old to set us upon a high levelof Christianity, He started with Moseson the mountain, Daniel in the lions' den,David and the giant, and came right ondown to Paul, Stephen and the disciplesin the New Testament. He never left any-thing to doubt. He made the Word soclear a child could understand it. Thegifts of the Spirit were in operation tothe edification of the church.

Personally, he has shown me more dur-ing this meeting concerning God's Wordthan I ever thought I could understand. My son Ronald received the baptism ofthe Holy Ghost, which was a real thrillto my soul.

From William Marshall Jennings, DeaconWe have just closed one of the greatest

revivals it has been my privilege to at-tend. Signs, wonders, and miracles hasprevailed throughout the whole meeting. Our Brother Vinyard has taught God'speople under the anointing of the HolyGhost which has resulted in many cove-nants being renewed. His direct and dis-tinct teaching of God's Word has cleansedand purified hearts and souls to the ex-tent that only eternity will fully tell itsworth not only to me, but to the wholesurrounding countryside.

These men driven bySatan raged against him, beating him, stoning him, putting him in prison, sub-jecting him to hunger and thirst andevery kind of persecution. At one time hehad escaped much of this persecution, butduring his later years God allowed thefull force of it to come against him inso-much that at times he even despaired ofhis life.

But notice! Not once does he list sick-ness among his infirmities. Not once doeshe list a single disease. Nowhere does hemention cancer or tuberculosis or anyother physical affliction. It thus wouldappear to be pure invention to say thatPaul's infirmities included blindness orsome kind of disease.

The answer is that it is purely the tra-dition of men. Actually to say that Paulwas blind is a direct denial of the Scrip-tures. It is true that Paul did becomeblind at the time he saw the vision ofChrist on the Damascus road. However,we are told that after this Paul spentthree days and nights in prayer and fast-ing. At that time Ananias came in andlaid his hands upon him that he mightreceive the Holy Ghost and his sight. Andthe Scriptures say that he did receivesight. (Acts 9:18) Consequently to holdto a tradition that Paul was almost blindis to go directly against the Scripture.5.

Paul explains that his infirmities werea blessing in disguise. Did he considerblindness a blessing in disguise or was ita curse? Blindness had indeed come uponhim as he approached Damascus withthreatenings and slaughter against theChristians there. But after his proudheart had been subdued he regained hissight. Did God then send blindness onhim this time as a blessing? The OldTestament declared that blindness was acurse that would come on the disobedient.Deut. 28:28. Was it now to become ablessing?

Paul believed no such thing. He knewthat blindness was a curse. When thefalse prophet, one Bar-Jesus, sought towithstand Paul from preaching the Gos-pel in Paphos, the apostle turned to the

sorcerer, and said:"0 full of all subtility and all mischief,

thou child of the devil, thou enemy of allrighteousness, wilt thou not cease to pre-vent the right ways of the Lord? Andnow behold the hand of the Lord is uponthee, and thou shalt be blind not seeingthe sun for a season." Acts 13:10, 11.

From this incident it will be seen thatPaul regarded blindness as a curse andnot a blessing.6. Did Paul ever teach people that sick

ness was a blessing')Paul did no such thing. He went about

as Jesus, teaching and preaching healingof body and soul. Great miracles tookplace as the result of his ministry. On theother hand he showed that sickness cameupon Christians because they did notjudge themselves and because they did notdiscern the Lord's body:

"For he that eateth and drinkethunworthily, eateth and drinketh dam-nation to himself, not discerning theLord's body. For this cause many areweak and sickly among you, andmany sleep. For if we judge ourselveswe shall not be judged." I Cor. 11:29-qtFrom this we see that Paul did not

teach that people were to regard sicknessas some special providence from God be-caues they were spiritual. Rather it camebecause they had not discerned the Lord'sbody and because they had not judgedthemselves.

7. Is there any evidence that Paul hadfaith for healing for others but not forhimself because the Lord had sentsickness on him as a "Thorn in theFlech)

We find no case of Paul being physi-cally afflicted except when he becameblind as a result of the blinding light ofthe vision. He fasted and prayed threedays and nights and was healed.

There was one case where Paul wasapparently slain as a result of a stoningby a wicked mob of persecutors who wereintent in bringing a halt to his ministry. While sorrowing disciples stood about hisbody, suddenly they saw a movement. Theapostle's eyelids flickered. Then super-natural power seemed to enter his body. His startled followers saw him arise up,apparently completely restored. He wasable to walk back with his friends into thecity. (Acts 14:19-20)

As long as Paul lived, he trusted inChrist as his Healer. There was no dimi-nution of his faith in God for healingeven in his last years. In the final chapterof the Book of Acts when Paul, afterescaping from the wrecked ship, reachedland, he was attacked by a poisonous viperwhich had coiled around his hand. Thenatives supposed that he would suddenlyfall down dead. But Paul trusting in theGreat Physician, felt no harm. The fact isthat Paul as long as he lived took theLord as his Healer.8.

Paul suffered many infirmities and pri-vations, but he was able to endure thembecause he had a strong body. A sickperson is a poor soul-winner. A physicallyafflicted person requires the services of

The Voice of Healing Convention in Erie, Pa., April 17-22. TVH Evangelists and cooperating pastors are seated on front row.

ERIE CONVENTION CLOSES IN TIDE OF GLORY

Heaven's switchboard was kept busy,as God sent special angelic dispatchersto the Erie, Pennsylvania, Voice of Heal-ing Convention, April 17-22, to answerprayer even as Gabriel was sent to Dan-iel's side, as a result of sincere supplica-tion.

No one could have attended this entireconvention and gone away saying, "Inever saw a Miracle," for they were many. One lady had passed over 600 gallstones,450 of which she had in two bottles. Thesewere shown to the congregation.

Many were saved and some estimatedthat over one hundred received the HolyGhost. Walter Lipiano, pastor of one ofthe Assemblies of God Churches in Eriesaid that eleven received the Holy Ghostfrom his own church. Visible healings ofevery sort took place before the eyes ofthe people.

TUESDAY

The Just Shall Live by FaithEvangelist Sam Todd

On Tuesday night, fiery Sam Todd.plunged right into his message on "TheJust Shall Live by Faith," speaking fromHab. 2:1-4. In the days of Habakkuk, theLevites excused sin, even as some preach-ers and Christians are doing today. Thisis the day of sham and unbelief. But Godis offering us something very real, and ifthis thing's real, let's find out. If it's notreal, let's get rid of it. If He will heal thesick and raise the dead, let's get in touchwith Him. God didn't call you to do theother fellow's work. He set me "upon mywatch." God didn't ask you to do theother fellow's praying.

Habakkuk said that he would get upinto "the tower"above criticism, dark-ness, gloom, backbiting and compromiseon another level, and "see what He willsay unto me." God told me to tell you thatHe will speak to you in this convention.Wait upon Him, and you will hear fromheaven tonight. Many came for salvation, some received the Baptism, while otherswere healed in this first service.

WEDNESDAY

Conquerors Through ChristH. E. HardtOn Wednesday afternoon, Pastor John

1 8

By. Mrs. Gordon LindsayReed led in prayer before H. E. Hardtbrought a most faith inspiring sermonfrom Rom. 8:28-39, on conquerors.

The reason some folk are not conquer-ors is because they are negative. Don'ttalk negative. Don't read a thing that isnegative. Some lose the victory by givingothers a piece of their mind. If you giveaway too many pieces of your mind, you'lllose your peace of mind.

In II Cor. 11:25-33, Paul was a con-queror. He refused to be defeated. Hehelped the sailors who couldn't swim. When a man-eating shark came along, Ican hear Brother Paul praying, "In thename of Jesus, I command you to leaveus alone." Learn to conquer the disease inyour body, your mind, your spirit. Daviddidn't at first look like a warrior, but hetalked like one. Too many Christians havelost their testimony. No so--David! "Ikilled a lion and a bear!" God will giveyou a testimony that will electrify yourchurch and the sinner. David slew thegiant and took his sword for a trophy! You can be a conqueror, too!

Wilt Thou Go? W. V. GrantOn Wednesday night Evangelist Albert

Gilbert led in prayer. Then W. V. Grantbuilt faith in the hearts of the peopleas he spoke from Gen. 24. Abraham whowas 160 years old, was about to die, so hecalled his servant to get a bride for hisson from his own people. That servantwent to a country where he found thewomen drawing water instead of ciga-rettes. The first young lady he met offeredto draw water not only for him, but forhis camels. When later she was ap-proached about marriage, she consultedher parents. That's a good thing for anyyoung person to do. But the final decisioncame with the girl, "Wilt thou go?" To-night, God has sent a special telegram toyou asking, "Wilt thou go?" A marvellousmoving of the Holy Ghost took place atthis point, and the gifts of the spirit be-gan to be manifested.

THURSDAY

The Holy Ghost Our Strength,By James Dunn

On Thursday afternoon, Pastor Eugene

Bell led in prayer after which James Dunndelivered a heart-searching and challeng-ing sermon. He said that some evangelistsare soft-pedalling the Holy Ghost, butthis ought not to be. If you're having goodresults in the ministry, don't take thecredit, but give it to the Holy Ghost. While out walking in Dallas, he found thebiggest thorns he'd ever seen. (Some, three to four inches long.) God spoke tohim and said, "Make a crown of thornsand show it to the people tonight."Christ's enemies didn't set that crownon Him lightly. They shoved it into Hisflesh, until the blood coursed down Hischeeks. Jesus didn't take the full stingof death on an operating table under asedative. He took it with His eyes wideopen!

Some say they are little worms of thedust. The devil is looking for little wormsof the dust to go fishing with. He'll getyou! We aren't little worms. We're sonsof God. Jesus will never come again as alowly Nazarene to be beaten and spitupon. We're serving a powerful Christ.Receive what you need from God today, for the tomb is ,empty!

Judgment to Victory Richard VinyardRichard Vinyard spoke*with great force

on "Judgment to Victory," on Thursdaynight. He used Isa. 42:1 and Matt. 12:20."Till He sent forth judgment unto vic-tory." When Jesus came to this world, Hebrought the verdict "Your sins have sepa-rated between you and your God." But Hechanged that judgment to victory. We'reliving in a day we've got to know how farwe're going in this thing. It's true thatyou're living under the curse of sicknessand disease, but you can be a free man.Jesus saved us from the curse of the law.The law of sickness, disease, death andhell has been offset by the law of powerand life. But the devil says, "You're notclean enough, not holy enough, not right-eous enough, not good enough to behealed." Put your faith in the law ofGrace. Jesus changed our verdict from"Guilty" to a "Free Man." He has brokenthe yolk! We stepped out of condemna-tion and He mode us a sheriff of the law!"These signs"is our badge of authority.

FRIDAYThe True Church Sam Todd

On Friday afternoon, Sam Todderilled the audience with a missionary

ssage from Matthew 16:15-18. We haved 2,000 years of church splits, compro-

mising, fanaticism, upheavals, etc. TheHoly Ghost speaks out against it all andsays, "I will build my church." Some say, that when we get the pulpit cleaned up,when we get the hypocrites out of the"Amen Corner," we'll have a revival. Butlet me tell you, there will still be somebackslidden preachers in the pulpit, andsome backsliders in the "Amen Corner"when Gabriel blows his trumpet. You cansit around and sour up, and become achronic gripe, but I'm moving with a dif-ferent crowd. The King of Glory is onthe March! If you look for defeat, you'regoing to be defeated. If you look for amiracle, you're going to have a miracle. There is a tragic necessity of gathering inthe harvest, and this world harvest is notgoing to be brought in by any one de-nomination. Will you help gather it inbefore the storm breaks?

Evangelist William Denny led in prayerin the Friday night meeting. We watchedthe hungry people enter the auditoriumin anticipation of the Holy Ghost Rally,at which W. V. Grant ministered. He saidthat Jesus commanded men not to leaveuntil they received the Holy Ghost. Ifyou've been seeking ten years, you've spentten years on a ten minute job. Somepeople need to drop a letter in the mailbox to get the Holy Spirit. David said,"My cup runneth over with joy." My cupand my saucer both are running over! Now David had a cup, but Isaiah had awell. Some think they've got all they canhold. God can turn your cup into a well.No one is qualified to teach a Sundayschool class without the Holy Ghost. LetHim fill you tonight!

SATURDAY

Prayer Still NecessaryGordon LindsayOn Saturday afternoon, Evangelist

Charles Rothwell led in prayer. He wasfollowed by Gordon Lindsay who said thatthe purpode of these conventions is toget folks out of the healing line. If hehad one thing to say against the HealingRevival, it's that when men see miracles, they feel now they won't have to prayanymore. That there is a short-cut to alife of power with God. Christ found itnecessary to pray continually. If we putour dependence on man, we'll be frus-trated and disappointed every time. Whena man panics, he's not praying right. Many times I've asked those in trouble,"Do you pray at least an hour a day?"The answer is always, "No." It's goingto pay off if we forget our differences andgo on with God. There's going to befalse teachers, but we're going on withGod!

Some preach on "The Last Sign BeforeJesus Comes." Others say, "We can't tellwhen Jesus is coming." We can! "Whenthis gospel of the kingdom shall bepreached in all the world ... , then shallthe end come." Somesay their prayersaren't being answered. It took Danieltwenty-one days to get one of his prayersanswered, but the angel said to Daniel,"Yes, Daniel, it took twenty-one days toget your prayers answered, but I wantyou to know I started out on the firstday." God is here to answer your prayertoday.

Healing The Children's Bread,By L. D. Hall

L. D. Hall then spoke from I John 3 :21.The death penalty is upon the humanrace, but Jesus has acquitted us throughthe cross of Jesus Christ. But sin, or thecondemnation of sin can keep us fromhealing. If your heart doesn't condemnyou, you're a candidate for healing. God'sword says you're healed, so you arehealed.

While attending Dr. John G. Lake'schurch, as a young man, Brother Hallheard a lady testifying time and againthat she was healed of a mammoth goiter, which she was carrying. With her voicealmost gone because of the goiter, shewould give the same squeaky testimonyeach time. :'I'm glad I'm healed." FinallyHall and several other young preachersreproved Dr. Lake for allowing her tocontinue in this manner. They said,"We're sick and tired of hearing thatwoman testifying like that." But Dr. Lakeasked them, "What have you got to offeragainst the Word of God? We've prayedfor her, and the Word says she's healed!Go on your way and believe God's Word !"Some time later, this woman got up onemorning and Lo, her goiter was com-pletely gone! Hang on to the invisibleuntil you see the visible!

Wilt Thou Be Made Whole? Jack Coe

Saturday and Sunday J. E. Wilson de-lighted the audience with his singing.Lydia Lipiano was the pianist, CaroleLindsay the organist.

Evangelist Jack Coe preached to a fullhouse on Saturday night, from John 5:6,"Wilt thou be made whole?" He said thatGod expects you to go, whether you havea way back or not. A woman lay on a cotunder his tent one night. She was prayedfor, but after the service she still laythere. She explained to Brother Coe. "Idon't have any money to pay the ambu-lance to take me home."

"That's too bad.""You wouldn't let me stay here all

night, would you?""I sure would."So she began to cry, "What shall I do?""You can let me pray one more time

and let God heal you tonight."Brother Coe prayed, God healed her,

and she left her cot and went home!If you fight Divine Healing, you're

fighting against God. "To whom is thearm of the Lord revealed?" Not to doubt-ers nor unbelievers, but to those thattrust God ! He is coming for a Churchwithout a spot or wrinkle. Better get allthose spots removed and get ready to meetJesus!

SUNDAYGood Habits Essential in KeepingOne's Healing Gordon LindsayGod sent beautiful sunshine for the

closing day. Gordon Lindsay addressed theafternoon congregation by saying that itwas not only the will of God to receivehealing, but to stay healed and he showedthat it was necessary to obey the laws ofhealth. When God gave promises of Di-vine Healing to the children of Israel, Healso gave them a number of health lawswhich included proper rest and food. Heshowed that it was necessary for the per-son who is healed to keep his eyes on

Christ and not on symptoms. When Peterkept his eyes on Christ, he walked on thewater. When he got his eyes off Christ, hesank. Keep your eyes on Christ.

Healing the Sick, a CommandmentL. D. Hall

L. D. Hall spoke next on Matt. 16:18,"I will build my Church." In Matt. 10:8and Luke 10:9, Jesus commanded the firstthing the disciples were to do was to gointo the cities and "heal the sick." Thereason ministers aren't getting the jobdone and reaching their communities to-day is that they won't obey that commandof Jesus. If we push healing, we're criti-cized. Yet Jesus said to do it.

In times past, I always cleaned housebefore praying for a persontake out allthe pills and medicines, but I've learnedto let Jesus clean house for me. SometimesJesus heals on credit. I was healed threedays before I was saved. Some churcheswant to reach just one class of peoplethe upper class. Jesus takes all classesand makes one class out of themfirstclass! Let God make you first class today.A Cure for the Incurable Jack Coe

On Sunday night, Jack Coe stirred thepeople by preaching on "A Cure for theIncurable." Luke 8:2, "Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean." This man hadthe incurable disease of leprosy. Sometime ago, Brother Coe and a ministerdrove to a leper colony. They came to thesign, "No trespassing," "Keep Out." Theminister asked, "You're not going in, areyou?""yes."

So Brother Coe let the minister out anddrove on. A superintendent of the islandwith a "leprosy grin" met him and asked,"What do you want?"

"I've come to preach deliverance. Jesuscan heal you and set you free."

"Alright, you can preach, but don'ttouch anyone."

Just then a man came running and said,"I knew you'd come. I've been listening toyou on X EG for three years."

Brother Coe laid his hands on each oneand prayed. Two weeks later, the man washealed and was dismissed within onemonth! He's now a preacher of the Gos-pel ! This man told Brother Coe that sev-eral weeks after he visited the colony, another evangelist came and prayed, andall thirty patients were healed and re-leased. He said he didn't know if BrotherCoe's prayers healed them, or the otherevangelist's. Brother Coe answered,"What difference does it make? It's justJesus!" Jesus cured the leper in the Bibleand He will heal you tonight.

And so ended this convention in a blazeof glory, and a shout in the camp. Manyhundreds of people had driven great dis-tances, and as they left they'd say, "We'llnever be the same again!" Jesus made thedifference!

VI] CIMIC--tr-Humility FirstThen Mighty Move of God Through Prayer

Fear Not Man

L.EAR ye not man whose breath is inhis nostrils, who passeth away even as

chaff before the wind. For why shouldman dominate, why should he have do-minion over that which I have given untohim until he is restored to his properplace of dominion. Why should he exer-cise authority of other spheres of author-ity. For no one exercises the authority ofa believer except he come into the sphereof a believer. And then he enters into thatfaith and that rest, that causes him tomove forward as the prophets of old whenthey moved forth not of their own will, nor spake their own words, but spakesay, as they were moved of the HolyGhost. What Shall My People Do When They

Stand Before Me in Judgment")Even now doth my people tremble be-

fore the world, but what shall they do inthe day when they appear before me,when they come before the Lord that shallexamine them thoroughly ? That shallsearch them by the mighty light of theShekinah glory, even by the greater lightthat was in Ark of the Covenant, in thetabernacle of the most High on earth ?What shall they do when they appear be-fore the bloodstream sanctuary ? Yea,what shall they do when they look uponthe very cross ? Yea, what shall they dowhen they behold the Son of God as Hehangs upon the Cross ? That scene shallbe repeated before the lost and dyingworld. And before the Great WhiteThrone Judgment. They shall all see andbehold the nailprints in His hand seethe blood oozing from His feet and hands.Yea, they shall behold that He hath beendelivered for their offenses and that Hehas been resurrected for their justifi-cation.

Secure Thyself in the Blood LineSo guide thyself in the path of security,

that ye may be secure in the blood line.Nay, I say unto thee, not the blood of ani-mals. Not the blood of men. Not the bloodof creation, but the blood of the Creator. That it might search and purge andcleanse and purify the sanctuary of God.For who hath offered himself unto theLord without naught, saith the Lord ?Who hath offered himself unto God's

20

sanctuary without recompense But theLord thy God doth look upon him whosaith, "Here am I, Lord send me." Nowtherefore have I sent forth my angelsthroughout the whole earth to minister tomy people who shall be ministers of flam-ing fire and who are heirs of salvation.

A Gate of Life and a Gate ofDestruction

0 thou that behold a misguided people, thou dost see how the angels have cometo deliver and to rescue, even beyond theability of man. Even when man made itimprobable and near to impossible forangels to deliver him. But the Lord gavethe great and mighty ones, even the holyangels fear and favor and power andsupernatural strength as when they de-livered Lot out of Sodom. So shall He de-liver His people this day who sit in thegate and behold the great sin of the worldand hear constantly the filthy conversa-tion of the wicked. So the Lord wouldhave thee guide thyself as thou art in thegate. For this life is a gate and it is openunto thee, saith God. There is a gateopened to the world in which thou canstpass through. But there is also a gate be-fore thee, even an open door into tbeglory world, through which also you mayenter, and to which you are looking now.

Thy Strength Limited That Thou MayestKnow That Thou Art Flesh

And even as you look unto this greatdoor, shall I not see that it is open untothee ? And thou hast a little strength, saith thy God. But the Lord thy God isthy strength. Therefore thou shalt nothave unlimited strength, because the Lordshall supply the strength according to theneed that hour, so that thou mayest knowthat thou art flesh, and thou art not toglory in His presence. Yea, that no fleshshall glory in His presence, saith the wordof the Lord.

For Even Now the Flesh Magnifies ItselfBut even now hath flesh magnified him-

self. Even now has he been transformedby the power of Satan, that he might ap-pear a supernatural being before the timeof his redemption is completed. Even theredemption was completed on Calvary. But the redemption plan is not yet com-plete hi rpan, until the hour comes that he

THE

shall be delivered from the groanings andfrom the cryings, and from the oppres-sions and suppressions of this world. Butthe Lord God seeth a day that is not faroff, when all the redeemed of all ashall come forth to receive their gloribodies through the power of redempti .

So the redemption is working in thee, andin thy bodies, and in thy minds to con-stantly keep thee and to renew thee andto restore thee. But the Lord reservethunto Himself the supernatural power thatshall make man to move and make man tostand. Therefore man has not that domin-ion yet, until he cometh into the greatmillennium of God's divine order. Andwhen he cometh into this great millen-nium there shall be no limit to the super-natural power of God in his life. He shallthen be glorified with Christ.

Therefore Seek a Lowly Place0 see ye not these things, my children,

that you seek a lowly place, and that youwant no place, so when the King comethout to see thee, that He may invite theeto come up higher, and so wilt thou below in thy own esteem. And when thou arthumble before thy God then thou shalt beexalted. And when thou art exalted be-fore thy God, thou shalt be abased.

So it is that you shall walk humbly andlowly and clearly before thy God. So thouwilt not be confused, so thou wilt thinkclearly, even as clearly as the sun shinethin its strength, even as fair as the moonshineth at night, and even as terrible asan army with banners, saith thy God.

The Angel of Isaiah Alive TodayFor now hath the angel of the Lord

moved again. Hath not he the same powerthat he had with Isaiah ? Is not the sameangel living today who took the coals ofthe censer from the altar of God ? Andspoke to Isaiah, and put them to his lipsthat he might be purged from his iniqui-ties ? Is not the same angel among hisprophets so that he shall purge the lipsof those who cry out in despair, and hum-bselelf ?themselves as Isaiah humbled him-

God Has Designed a Mighty Moveof Prayer

And so hath the Lord designed a greatand mighty move of prayer and a greatmove of power in the very thing of inter-cession, in the power of supplications andintercessions and rejoicings and thanks-givings. So that intercession shall be tem-pered with thanksgiving and thereby thatit shall not destroy the intercessor. Forwere there no joy for the intercessor, thenthou wilt be silent continuously. But theLord God will have thee to know that Hewill give great rejoicing, so that it willtemper the power of intercession, ofweeping and mourning and crying out.And supplications as they shall have theircourses, saith God in the ministry. Sothat intercession shall follow supplica-tion. And there shall be thanksgivings andrejoicings and again intercessions andthanksgivings and rejoicings and petitionsand requests and repenting, and all theconditions of a prophet of old shall berepeated.A Prophet of the Lord Shall Come Forth

And a prophet of the name of the Lordshall come forth and there shall be agreat and mighty move, saith God, in thechurches, even in the nominal churches,

where there is no power, where there isno spiritual drink, where there is no Rock,Christ Jesus. But there shall move in theinvisible realm, yea, there shall move

inisters from their pulpits, and movedown from their knees into the al-

, into which the congregation shallfollow. This shall be a great and mightymove even now.

A Trumpet Call Made from AboveFor will there not be a trumpet sound

from above that causes many of the peo-ple of the Lord to move forward ? Is notthis trumpet sound even today heard inthe air? Have they not heard it as Saulof. Tarsus heard it ? And even now theLord with His Angels yea, they arecalling for a warfare. And thou mustmove forward in the very word of theLord. And thou must know when the Lordwould call an assembly and thou mustknow when He would call a marching.

Gifts to CoordinateNations toBe Moved

Yea, thou must know these things asdid the ministers and the priests in an-cient times. So wilt thou know the dif-ference in the trumpet sounds. There winbe a signification, that will be made clearto my people. So that even through themedium of tongues and interpretations, and prophecies followed by the outwardmanifestations of the gifts of healings, and of faith, and those wonderful mir-acles. Even they all shall coordinate andmove mightily upon the nations, and uponthe kingdoms to cause them to trembleand totter.Lord to Gather His People and Bring

ReconciliationYea, and so the Lord will unite and

gather together His people, even todayHe will bring reconciliation betweenthose who have had hatred in the past.

He shall bring deliverance to those whohave been bound, and to those who haveno speech, the Lord will give a greatvoice. 0 thou hast power with thy God,saith the Spirit, if thou wilt walk favor-ably before Him.

The Lord Speaketh As a Ldmb and a LionFor the voice of the Lord hath spoken

saying the voice of the Lord, breaketh thecedars of Lebanon, and the voice of theLord is upon the waters, and the voice ofthe Lord breaketh down and buildeth up.And the voice of the Lord trembleth eventhe prophet that shall hear His voice. Forthough He speaketh with a great andmighty prophetic utterance, He stillspeaketh in a still small voice to themthat are waiting before Him. And so shallHe be unto them as a dove unto her mate, and as He is a lion of the tribe of Judahin the forest. Yea, the king of beasts, sothe Lord shall be both the Lamb and theLion. He shall be the great Dove of peaceover the earth. And so shall my peopleknow Him in these very associations ofthe dove, of the lamb, and of the lion. Andaltogether what He shall be thou knowestnot now, but thou shalt know hereafter.Go Forward with Faith and the Whole

Armor of GodSo therefore go with faith and go with

the whole armor cd thy God. And go withthy loins girded with the light and thelamp of the Lord. So thou shall hold forththe word of life burning brightly unto asinful world. So thou shalt help to bringforth the sons of God who shall comeforth becoming blameless sons of God inthe presence of a wicked generation.

Go Forth with Joy and TriumphTheSpirit Will Quicken

And now shalt thou go forth with joyand thanksgiving and triumphant victoryforgetting the things that are past and

beholding the mountain top to which thouhast set thy face to go. So there shall benothing in between and the details thatshall come, even the obstacles and thedifficulties shall be easily surmounted. For the power of the Lord that workethmightily in him that waiteth for Him,even .that working shall be completed. For saith the Lord, His Spirit shall workand His Spirit is moving. And so thy tem-ples be yielded to Him. For if the Spirit ofHim dwell in thee, that raised up ChristJesus from the dead, if that same Spiritstill abide in thee, that very same Spiritshall quicken thy mortal bodies, so thatthou shalt move forward and to gladnessand rejoicing and triumph over all thingsuntil the day of thy complete redemptionwith the Lord.

PAUL'S THORN IN THE FLESH(Continued from Page 8)

the church instead of serving it. Only awell person could evangelize the nationsas Paul did. His testimony was "I labouredmore abundantly than they all." That isnot the testimony of a sick man. If Paul'sdisease resulted in his becoming the mostfruitful of all who laboured in his day, then we could well wish that kind of sick-ness upon all the people of God.

SUMMED UP we see from the life ofPaul that the righteous suffer for theGospel's sake. Paul deliberately chose agrinding life of toil and hardship that theGospel might be brought to the lost. Hecounted the loss of all things gain that hemight win Christ, and share with Him inthe glory of the first fruit resurrection. But he did not suffer from sickness anddisease. It is a snare and a delusion toread sickness into Paul's "thorn in theflesh." To do so will only weaken one'sfaith anti make of non-effect the promisesof the Word of God which declare that"he forgiveth all our iniquities andhealeth all our diseases."

and then all of a sudden as he looked, herecognized him. He reached down and putan arm around him, and talked to him. Weall wondered, what are they talkingabout ? What is going on ? They talked ona little, then the Governor stood back up,and he was crying. Tears were un-ashamedly running down his face. Theman who had been shouting and jumpingtook another spell. After this last leapingand jumping and praising God, he satdown in front, and was perfectly quiet.

By that time, the Governor had wipedthe tears from his eyes. And this is all Ican remember of what he said. "Ladiesand gentlemen, the man that you havejust seen come down here, I have knownall of my life. He has been an intimatefriend of the family since I was a littleboy. He often came to our home, and Iused to sit on his knee, and he would holdme. Now, he has come here and told methat he attended a divine healing revivaland was prayed for. I want you to knowthat all of the years that I have knownhim, which is more than fifty, he has beena hopeless cripple, and had to drag 'him-self on crutches. Now he tells me that hewent to a divine healing meeting and thathe has been supernaturally healed. Godperformed a miracle. Friends, I believe it.I have seen a miracle today." That Gov-ernor's speech set that congregation onfire, and made a Pentecostal revival outof it.

The embarrassment that had been inthe faces of our officials had left them, and they, too, were shouting and praisingGod. Anyone who has been a hopelesscripple for fifty years, and gets healed, has a perfect right to jump and shout anddisturb at least one Pentecostal meeting.

God's power has always been in exist-ence, but thank God, in the 1900th year, when the Upper Room Assembly waswaiting upon God, He poured out thatpower and gave it unto man again. Idon't understand it, but I can tell you thatthe power of God is just the same today.Whatever God has promised, He is ableto perform. Yes, the power of God is justthe same today.

What Makes a Nation Great?

Not ranks of soldiers with flags unfurled,Nor armored ships that gird the world; Not hoarded wealth, nor busy mills,Not cattle on a thousand hills; Not sages wise, nor schools, nor laws; Not boasted deeds in freedom's cause:All these may be, and yet the stateIn the eye of God be far from great! That land is great which knows the Lord,Whose songs are guided by His Word;Where justice rules 'tween man and man;Where love controls in art and plan;Where, breathing in his native air,Each soul finds joy in praise and prayer. Thus may our country, good and great,Be God's delight man's best estate.
