About Upcoming Classes at Tokyo Metropolitan University: Online Classes to Continue, and Some Face-to-face Sessions* to Resume In general, TMU will continue to conduct first-semester classes online. However, starting on Monday, June 29, we plan to resume face-to-face sessions for some subjects, such as conducting experiments, practical training and some seminars. Please see the message from the president issued today about university policy for upcoming classes and other information. On the other hand, we must remain cautious about COVID-19 infection. As we begin to use some of the campus facilities again, we are working to make the campus safe so that everyone can use the facilities with peace of mind. Detailed precautions regarding upcoming classes and holding face-to-face classes are provided below (including the attached form). Please read this form and the attached forms and follow the precautions so that we can continue online classes and resume some face-to-face classes in a smooth manner.

○ As a rule, online classes will continue for the first semester.

Please continue to take classes and maintain a positive attitude. ○ Face-to-face classes* will be conducted for some experiments, practical training and

seminars. ○ There is no need to come to campus unless you are taking a face-to-face class

(experiments, practical training, etc.). ○ See “Classes (resumption of face-to-face classes, etc.)” below for more details.

As a rule, online classes will continue for the first semester

○ To ensure the safe, gradual reopening of the university and prevent crowds on campus, only students who need to attend

face-to-face classes or complete procedures at service windows can enter the campus. ○ While we must limit the use of facilities by students who are not taking face-to-face classes or the like during the first

semester, library services will still be provided remotely. ○ We ask for the understanding and cooperation of all students so that we can gradually reopen our campus while keeping

everyone safe. Thank you very much.

As a rule, entry restrictions will continue for the first semester

○ Some face-to-face counseling services will resume at the Students Counseling Room. Please feel free to contact the counseling room staff if you have any concerns or

worries (details listed below). Note: Even if you do not have face-to-face classes, you may enter the campus for student counseling or the like if the university gives you permission.

* Face-to-face classes This refers to classes conducted at on-campus facilities that require you to come the campus. Classes conducted through a computer or other device (online) are defined as online classes.

Some face-to-face student counseling services will resume: Feel free to contact us

■ To All Students: Basic Matters regarding Upcoming Classes

○ If the COVID-19 infection situation changes in Tokyo and the metropolitan government issues another closure request to our university, our policies will change

accordingly. (Note: We plan to conduct all classes online if we receive another closure request.)

○ Please check the university website, Twitter and other information sources regularly to obtain the latest updates.

University response to the COVID-19 infection situation in Tokyo and other factors: Please check the website regularly

○ Please check your temperature and determine whether you have any COVID-19 symptoms (difficulty breathing, dullness,

etc.) every morning before coming to the university. ○ If you are experiencing any symptoms, please stay at home and rest.

Ample consideration will be given for absences due to these reasons. Be sure to contact the section/division overseeing the academic affairs for your affiliated faculty* in these cases. Ample consideration will also be given if you are not feeling well otherwise, so feel free to contact the university for advice.

○ If a family member or the like living with you has been infected with COVID-19, or if you came in close contact with an

infected person, please contact the section/division overseeing the academic affairs for your affiliated faculty* immediately.

Note: These matters only concern students who have face-to-face classes for experiments, practical training, etc.

■ This precaution is for students who are involved in experiments, practical training, and some seminars that must be done in a face-to-face format. ■ Students who are only taking online classes for the first semester are asked to continue taking classes at home.

Students taking the face-to-face classes mentioned above should also continue to take online classes remotely on days when they do not have these classes. ■ Please read the following carefully if you will be taking face-to-face classes.

Health management tips related to attending face-to-face classes ○ Make sure you thoroughly understand your class schedule (online and face-to-face)

While the university is adjusting schedules so the times of face-to-face classes and online classes do not conflict, some classes may be conducted at the same time due to unavoidable circumstances. Obtain information updates from the university website, notifications from instructors and other methods so you fully understand your class schedule, such as when you have to come to campus and which classes are conducted in what format.

○ Take online classes at home (As a rule, stay off campus)

If many students take online classes on campus at the same time, it may affect the university network adversely. Please take online classes at home or elsewhere outside the campus whenever possible. However, the university will accommodate you if you must take online classes on campus as a result of your class schedule.

○ Do not push yourself if you are sick or otherwise not feeling well

Do not push yourself if you are experiencing health problems. Stay at home and rest. Ample consideration will be given if you contact the section/division in charge of academic affairs for your affiliated faculty.

○ Other

If you cannot attend face-to-face classes because you are not in commuting distance, or have any other concerns, please contact the section/division in charge of academic affairs for your affiliated faculty. The university will take all possible measures to handle the situation.

* Section/division in charge of academic affairs for your affiliated faculty: The Academic Affairs Division for first- and second-year students (excluding students in the Faculty of Health Sciences), and the Academic Affairs Section of your affiliated faculty or graduate school for undergraduate students in the third year and above and graduate school students (second year and above for students in the Faculty of Health Sciences).

■ To All Students: Resumption of Some Face-to-Face Classes

Face-to-face classes are only conducted for some subjects for some students: Most classes will continue to be conducted online

Participating in face-to-face classes

○ Always observe proper cough etiquette, such as wearing masks while you are on campus and commuting. ○ Avoid the “Three Cs” (closed spaces, crowds, and close conversation).

Keep this in mind even after classes and while eating and drinking. Do not enter the campus unless you must be there to attend face-to-face classes, complete procedures at service windows, or the like. (We need to limit the number of students on campus to avoid overcrowding.)

○ Wash your hands at the proper times, and use the proper method. ・When entering campus, before and after meals, after using shared facilities and materials, after blowing your nose, etc. ・Use soap to wash your hands thoroughly for thirty seconds or longer, rinse with plenty of water, and dry with a clean

handkerchief or the like. ○ Maintain physical distance (one to two meters apart)

Make sure to distance yourself from others when lining up or the like.

Points to note while on campus: For your health and safety, and that of everyone else at the university
