THOUGHTS TO CONSIDER
Forever I will sing the Goodness of the Lord (Psalm 89)
Right after being ordained to the priesthood at the Saint Francis Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, before the final blessing of the Holy Mass of Ordination, Emeritus Archbishop Michael Sheehan announced his assignment
for me: Father Benoit Trieu Van Vu will be a parochial vicar of Our lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo. I did not know where Bernalillo is. I asked one of the priests: where is
Bernalillo. He said: around 14 miles north from Albuquerque; “well, it is not far from Albuquerque where I
would be living” I said so to myself. On way home from Santa Fe after my Ordination, I tried to find out where Bernalillo on the I- 25. “Bernalillo 37 A exit 242 Bernalillo, Rio Rancho, Placitas” the signs said.
“Here it is, I knew where I would serve.” Three weeks after my Ordination, I was traveling for my Thanksgiving
Masses and I began my priestly ministry on June 10, 2017 at Our lady of Sorrows at Bernalillo with my first
Mass said here in Spanish. This was the first Mass as a parochial vicar and also the first Mass I celebrate here in Spanish because that day, our secretary could not find
any priest to say Spanish Mass. Once a week during one year I came to the Hispanic Cultural Center for Spanish
class. After that Spanish Mass, the people told me: “your Spanish is good and understandable”. From that on,
every two Sundays, I celebrate Holy Mass in Spanish. The first impression on me in Our Lady of Sorrows was
the sound of bell ringing before all Masses of Sundays. It recalls me of my childhood when I was living with my
family in a small village where the bell of the Church has being tolled three times every day: the sound of the bell is God’s sound which reminds the people of God’s presence
and duty of worship toward him. Day by day I serve and share the faith with parishioners here, I have been experiencing the growth of faith and I have received a lot of kindness from the people through
material and spiritual gifts. Vietnamese people say: “one day together makes
friendship; passing across a river on the same boat makes acquaintances”. More than seven hundred days
living and sharing the life of faith with Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Community, I thank God for sending me
here and thank all of you very much for your great kindness and prayer; and for making me grow in God’s
Grace and Love and in pastoral life. May God, through the intercession of Our Lady of
Sorrows, Saint Joseph, and San Lorenzo bless and protect you and your families always.
I will remember all of you in my daily prayers In Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows
Rev. Benoit Trieu Van Vu
Bernalillo. No sabía dónde estvá Bernalillo. Dijo: a

Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Prayer
Lord God, help us to build a Church,
not only of brick and mortar, but of living stones, your holy people, a family of faith, hope, and love.
Fill us with your Holy Spirit
that we may have the wisdom and insight,
courage and strength to know and follow your holy will and grow together in Christ.
May we be one in mind and heart as we build a community of faith
worthy of your grace to praise and glorify you
for generations to come. Amen
