SAY IT WITH FUN! Executive Assistants, Team Leaders, Supervisors

Recognition is one of the most powerful and under utilized management tools. Everyone

wants recognition. Everyone needs it. And recognition increases the likelihood that the

action recognized will be repeated. Keep it simple, remember that adults are just grown

up kids.

How about passing out Kudos candy bars when congratulating someone for a job well done

or Lifesavers for an act that really helped the team. Give out Chuckles to a person on the

team that had a great attitude that week. We know that when efforts to recognize

individuals are mixed with a little fun, they tend to take on a life of their own, creating a

more memorable experience. Isn’t that the objective of recognizing someone?

Have you checked your Member Market on

the GLI Website? There are many member

to member discounts available.

Event + Response = Outcome The basic idea is that every outcome you experience in life is the result of how you

have responded to an earlier event or events in your life. If you don’t like the outcomes you are currently getting,

there are two basic choices you can make.

1. Most people blame the event (E) for the lack of results (O). In other words you can blame the economy, the

weather, the lack of money, your lack of education, your family, the government etc . If you are a golfer, you’ve

probably even blamed your clubs or the golf course you played on for the results you got.

No doubt all these factors do exist, but if they were the deciding factor, nobody would ever succeed. For every

reason why something is not possible, there are hundreds of people who have faced the same circumstances and

succeeded.

2. You can instead simply change your responses (R) to the events (E) - the way things are—until you get the out-

comes (O) you want. You can change your thinking, change your communications, change the pictures you hold

in your head (your images of yourself and the world) - you can change your behavior—the things you do. Unfortu-

nately, most of us are so run by our habits that we never change our behavior. We get stuck in our conditioned

responses (to our loved ones, our clients, our students, our employees, and to the World at large). We are a bundle

of conditioned reactions that we can choose to change. You have to regain control of your thoughts, your images,

your dreams and your behavior. Everything you think, say, and do needs to become intentional and aligned with

your purpose, your values and your goals.

Jack Canfield’s Fundamentals of Success is a great read for helping you change the (R) to start getting better

(O)’s. The World is a different place each day and we are better off working with change than fighting change.

Having an accountability partner can be FUN and increase your

productivity. Do you have an accountability partner?

Have you ever had a day that

you just did not want to make

any phone calls? What about

calling it a day in the middle

of the afternoon?

Well, who doesn’t have those mo-

ments. The problem occurs when

you have more of those moments

than productive moments.

Having an accountability partner

is part of teamwork that helps

both people succeed. An account-

ability partner can help in many

ways. When selecting an ac-

countability partner, look for

someone who you respect.

Mutual respect goes far when you

lay the ground rules for helping

each other.

Be careful not to select someone

who is just as easily distracted as

you are. And steer clear of those

who you know that you can con-

vince to go get a cup of coffee

instead.

Accountability partners share

successes, feel the pain, lift each

other up, offer encouragement and

give each other a kick in the pants

if need it.

Accountability partners can be a

coach, church leader, executive
