N E W S L E T T E R Volume XIX JUN 2010 Issue 06 NEXT CLUB MEETING ON June 12 th See you at Fremont Chevrolet PRESIDENT’S NOTE Robert Cortez I am very happy to see more sunshine than rain in our forecast. We have a lot of great events coming up very soon, so don’t forget to send in your applications for Run thru the Canyon and Hot San Jose Nights, we also have Drive in Night, and a very fun event The Apple pie Run so check out the web site and mark your calendar. We didn’t have a great showing for Chevelles on the wharf but the four cars that went enjoyed a beautiful day in Santa Cruz. I would also like to thank everyone for coming to the club meetings it is great to have a full room and talk with everyone. The June meeting is the same day as Drive in Night and Bow tie Bash, Michael has made arrangements with the Bow tie Bash people for a reduced rate for anyone who wants to drive over after the meeting. VICE PRESIDENT’S NOTE Tom Leopold Hey everyone sorry I missed you in the last newsletter but I’ve been busy with Run through the Canyon trying to make it one to remember. And speaking of RTTC everything is set for the run itself. It should be a great time for all, and what better setting then the Pacific Ocean as our guide. I’m hoping for a good turn out to cap the day off, and like I said make it one to remember. But even though everything is going well I still need some volunteers to help out on the big day. Most of the volunteer positions are covered; I just need help with pre-registration and post- registration. These two positions are the most critical to get the day started because they involve the goody bags and poker cards, as well as, lunch and drink tickets and I don’t think anybody would want to miss out on that. Like we have said in the past, the strength of the club is everyone participating and I will deeply appreciate anyone’s help. Don’t look at this as you need to be perfect to volunteer, or intimidated by volunteering, there isn’t any perfection to having fun, there is only having fun. So on that note, with just two month’s to go, I hope everyone is as excited as I am, I know with the kind of members we have it will be another super day with our classics, and that is what it is all about. Thanks and see you at the next meeting. EVENTS NEWS Steve Fox Ok, so May turned out to be a wet month. It almost felt like we went back to Winter. Keep your fingers crossed for June. One thing for sure, we will be meeting this Saturday evening for Chevelle & El Camino Night at the Drive-In Movies - Capital Drive-In - 3630 Hillcap Ave San Jose, CA 95136 (408) 226- 2251 - This is a "Bring your Hot Rod" event. We will meet in the parking lot just outside the pay booth at 7:00pm and drive in together as soon as the gates open. It'll be Pot Luck for the club. Bring a dish to share. We will eat inside the drive-in. Bring a folding chair and a jacket, we will be sitting outside next to our cars (weather permitting). Any questions contact Willie Allen at [email protected] or call 408-591-1569. Also, the Bow Tie Bash will be happening this Saturday. After the club meeting, some members will be driving over there to join the show. Cost will be $10.00 to get in. More details at the Club Meeting. Finally, Hot San Jose Nights will be taking place July 9th, 10th and 11th. More details are in the newsletter. We'll see you at the meeting this Saturday! VICE PRESIDENT’S NOTE Tom Leopold

Hey everyone sorry I missed you in the last newsletter but I’ve been busy with Run through the Canyon trying to make it one to remember. These two positions are the most critical to get the day started because they involve the goody bags and poker cards, as well as, lunch and drink tickets and I don’t think anybody would want to miss out on that. Like we have said in the past, the strength of the club is everyone participating and I will deeply appreciate anyone’s help. Don’t look at this as you need to be perfect to volunteer, or intimidated by volunteering, there isn’t any

perfection to having fun, there is only having fun. So on that note, with just two month’s to go, I hope everyone is as excited as I am, I know with the kind of members we have it will be another super day with our classics, and that is what it is all about. Thanks and see you at the next meeting.

Club jackets, great sweatshirts, T-shirts, polo shirts and hats are available in a variety of styles and colors. The club

merchandise line continues to grow. We have introduced some new items this year like jackets with the large club emblem on the back or you can still order the old school jacket with the small emblem in the front and the club name on the back. We now have special hats for the ladies, pink with flames and the club logo. We have also made arrangements with embroiderers; they will put the club logo on any item you bring them. We would like to place an order for Club jackets. We have orders for 3 jackets, but we need a minimum of 6 to place the order. Wouldn’t one of these make a great Christmas gift for someone on your list? Contact Willie or Cindy Allen at 408-591-1569 for more information and to place orders. Put your order in so you can look awesome in the club merchandise for the holidays and the New Year. Let's have a great 2010!

Nor-Cal ChevelleCaminos Featured Car JOANNE NASTASI'S '70 SS CHEVELLE

After a few minutes more of chatting he handed me a slip of paper with a name and phone number. He said he thought it was a decent car and I should check it out. Turns out this car for sale was very close to my dream car, short of a 4 speed and the A/C.

Joanne has great taste in classic cars. Pepe Le Chevy shares garage space with another popular classic, a 1969 Chevy Camaro that Joanne calls Supey. Not bad company!!!

Meet one of Nor-Cal's newer members, Joanne and her awesome 1970 Chevelle SS396. Joanne says, I found my 70 Chevelle Super Sport about a year ago. I was at an informal car gathering that happens Thursday nights at a diner in San Jose. I had brought the '69 Camaro and as I was getting ready to head home that evening, a guy approached me and told me what a nice car Supey was. We talked a few minutes and he mentioned he had had a '70 Chevelle named "Skunk" and his roommate had had a '69 Camaro. I told him that the '70 Chevelle was my second favorite car in the world.

This very cool Muscle Car is a numbers matching, badged 396 (actual 402 CI), 350HP, TH 400 automatic, 411 posi., northern California car, with full SS package. Its previous owner mostly used the car for show, as you can see it's in mint condition inside and out.

Joanne, her husband Bob and daughter Kelly are great car enthusiasts who really appreciate the muscle car era. If you happen to see them cruis'in the streets of San Jose, be sure to give them a thumbs up.
