ABOUT “NEIGHBOR’S LAND” Project direction by an artist Jun Kitazawa, “NEIGHBOR’S LAND” is a new art project to make somewhere unlike Japan yet Japan. By gathering diversity lying next to our daily lives and creating diverse “NEIGHBOR’S LAND” inside the urban space through collaboration with foreign nationals who live between national and cultural differences in contemporary Japan. The idea of “NEIGHBOR’S LAND” came from Kitazawa’s personal thought regarding the cultural distance which he felt during his days living in Japan and Indonesia.“NEIGHBOR’S LAND” is exhibited as the 5th time of “YCC Temporary”, the YCC’s original art program. Calling for members of various foreign nationals as “neighbors” in the area of Naka-ku, Yokohama where YCC is located, the project is going to turn YCC’s exhibition space into a “NEIGHBOR’S LAND” by gathering foreign cultures that already exist right next to us in this city, as well as by shaping scenes and lives of each neighbors’s homeland.

Artist, representative of JUN KITAZAWA OFFICE YAKUMO, working in collaboration with local government , educat ion fac i l i t ies , medica l institutions, companies, local communities, and NPOs to develop art project related to people’ s daily life in Japan and rest of the world. Using the factors from local area and building up relationship with local community in order to create a long-term art project that records the shift of value, he proposes “community-specific” art projects. He obtained Ph. D. in Fine Arts from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2015. He was named to "30 Under 30 Asia" list in 2016, the Forbes magazine.
