Juŵeira Baccalaureate School, PriŶcipal’s Welcoŵe Know yourself, learn from each other JBS has grown quickly to become a school of 850 students, with over 70 different nationalities represented from PreK to Grade 12. We are a school serving its community, especially as so many families live close by in the lovely coastal suburbs from Jumeira to Dubai Marina. JBS is therefore very much a joint enterprise, focused on the needs of children growing up in the excitingly cosmopolitan environment of the United Arab Emirates. Parents, staff and governors have worked together to develop the school’s philosophy and a vision of the kind of school they want JBS to be by 2015. Learning is not something that just happens at JBS it is something in which we all take part actively and contribute to, whoever we are. Our British international primary curriculum followed by the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes of the IB curriculum make us a little bit different from other schools in Dubai. We think it enables the development of knowledge and transferrable skills in English, Maths and Science, which we then like students to apply in a process of cross-curricular inquiry in association with other subjects. We want our students to express themselves in a variety of different subject areas, languages and activities, while becoming confident users of Arabic and French as first or second languages. We have so much to learn from each other, and in the process we come to know ourselves just a little bit better, whoever we are. That’s what makes JBS what it is and, we think, rather special but please don’t take our word for it. Come and judge for yourself: you will be very welcome. Andrew Homden, Principal

Know yourself, learn from each other

JBS has grown quickly to become a school of 850 students, with over 70 different nationalities

represented from PreK to Grade 12. We are a school serving its community, especially as so many

families live close by in the lovely coastal suburbs from Jumeira to Dubai Marina. JBS is therefore very

much a joint enterprise, focused on the needs of children growing up in the excitingly cosmopolitan

environment of the United Arab Emirates. Parents, staff and governors have worked together to

develop the school’s philosophy and a vision of the kind of school they want JBS to be by 2015. Learning

is not something that just happens at JBS – it is something in which we all take part actively and

contribute to, whoever we are.

Our British international primary curriculum followed by the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes of

the IB curriculum make us a little bit different from other schools in Dubai. We think it enables the

development of knowledge and transferrable skills in English, Maths and Science, which we then like

students to apply in a process of cross-curricular inquiry in association with other subjects. We want our

students to express themselves in a variety of different subject areas, languages and activities, while

becoming confident users of Arabic and French as first or second languages.

We have so much to learn from each other, and in the process we come to know ourselves just a little

bit better, whoever we are. That’s what makes JBS what it is and, we think, rather special – but please

don’t take our word for it. Come and judge for yourself: you will be very welcome.
