Recommended Line: The finesse at trick one looks tempting, but you should bear in mind: most players are reluctant to lead away from a king at the best of times; all the more so when choosing a lead against a slam. In any event, you don’t really need the club finesse. You have a safer line. Play the ♣A, cash the ♠A, then lead the ♠T. If East plays low, discard a club. If West wins, and continues with another club, you will try the ♣Q, but will probably have to ruff East’s ♣K. You then lead a heart across. Play another spade. If East covers, ruff high; otherwise discard a diamond. Since West would probably have led a spade if holding both the king and the queen in the suit, you expect to taste success playing the hand as described. Your double ruffing finesse traps East’s ♠K. People who believe in taking the direct route would not find this scenic play!
