    Dominican Prayers Go Mobile

    Dear Friend,

May Gods grace andpeace be with you andyour loved ones. I hopethis finds you well at theheight of the summer, asyou take time forvacation and perhapssome travel, seekingrefreshment and

renewal. In your leisure, may you, echoing our

Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI revivify yourspirits by contemplating the splendors ofCreation, and may you take time to contemplatethe One who makes all things new.

St. Thomas Aquinas, O.P. said, the Good Newsis aboutGodHimself.Wecontinue toshare this

GoodNews,GodHimself, throughoutthesummermonths, throughouttheProvinceof St.Joseph, across the country at large, as well as in missionterritories far and wide. Our Student Brothers information are deployed in various apostolates andwe take advantage of opportunities that summer

brings for youth conferences, summer workshopsand the like. We preach, teach, communicate, and share Gods love for each person and Hissaving Truth, as made manifest in the One who

    Dear Colleague,

I hope this finds youwell during thisblistering heat ofsummer.

As a layman observingthe challenges theChurch is facing inthese times, I couldnot be more thankfulto God for the blessingof the DominicanFriars. He has seen fitto bless the Province

this year with 13 newNovices, who recentlyarrived at my homeparish of St. Gertrudein Cincinnati wherethe Novitiate islocated. It seemsmore and more, echoing what theFriars haverecognized andspoken about, thatGod is blessing theProvince, and theChurch, with so many

    vocations, because

the Dominicancharism is so urgentlyneeded at this time.

With their holywitness to the Truth, through theDominicanintellectual traditionthat equips them toengage the culture andthe challenging issuesof our day at thehighest levels, theyare bringing Light intothis ever-darkening

world. Furthermore,as a grandparent I amso thankful that these

young Dominican menare going to be thereduring the course ofthe lives of mygrandchildren.

As the mission andwork of the Friarscontinues to grow

with the steadyincrease of vocations,so too do thechallenges to providefor and maintain themany good works andapostolates, includingthe formation of the

young Friars. Hence, the Friars need of ourcollaboration andsupport grows, too.

FRIARS PREACHING ANDTEACHINGSummer Conferences, Workshops, Urban Pilgrimage

Workshop: St. Thomas Aquinas andContemporary Philosophy: On the highesttheological and philosophical planes, the Friarsare on the forefront of an effort to apply theintellectual tradition of St. Thomas Aquinas

    known as Thomismto problems in

contemporary philosophy, in particular the search

for Truth. Last month, the Thomistic Institute ofthe Pontifical Faculty of the ImmaculateConception (PFIC) at the Dominican House ofStudies (DHS) in Washington, D.C. and theCatholic and Dominican Institute of Mount St.Mary College, a 4-year liberal arts college guided

by the Catholic and Dominican traditions since itsfoundation by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in1960 in Newburgh, NY, co-sponsored aworkshop designed to formally inaugurate the

    project.

Laying a foundation for ongoing dialogue, theconference gathered leading Catholic theologiansand philosophers for what is hoped will be the

first of many dialogues on developing ways tocounteract todays dominant schools ofphilosophy that reject faith perspectives outof hand. Representing the Province were Fr.Thomas Joseph White, O.P., Acting Director ofthe Thomistic Institute and Fr. James Brent, O.P.,who

teaches philosophy at Catholic University ofAmerica. They were joined as speakers by Fr.Charles Morerod, O.P., Rector of the Angelicum

May God bless you allfor your dedicationand commitment tothe mission we share

    with the DominicanFriars.

    Sincerely in Christ,
